She’s gone

Logan…

Immediately he left, I broke into action, grabbing Maya's hand and leading her out of the ball.

I knew Lucas, and nothing good ever happened when he showed up. Like me, he was really ruthless and that was one of the things I had loved about him when we were friends. And if he said he had a gift for me tonight, then it meant something bad was going to happened at the end of the night. And I wasn't about to find out what it was.

“What’s going on Logan?”

Maya asked as I dragged her down the hallway.

"Stay in your room tonight. And do not come out." I said to Maya the moment we got to our room and she nodded as she stepped inside the room. I could see the confusion on her face as she stared at me and I sighed.

“Please Maya”

I pleaded.

She looked like she wanted to say something, but she decided against it and went inside before closing the door.

"What do you want me to do Logan?"

Marcus asked as we headed towards my study, glancing at me cautiously. "Do you want me to handle him?"

I didn't answer immediately, my mind still lingering on Lucas. He thought he had the upper hand-that he was the stronger one of us after almost killing me years ago. He thought he could just walk into my territory and leave like it were nothing. But he was wrong.

He had just made a big mistake by coming here, and I wasn't going to let him leave here alive. Not after the last stunt he pulled.

"Arrange the lost ones. Lucas dies tonight." I ordered, and Marcus nodded and left almost immediately.

He returned a few moments later, his face filled with dread. "We have a problem, Alpha." He said carefully, his voice low and steady and I narrowed my eyes.

“What is it?”

I asked and he gulped nervously before opening his mouth to speak.

"Maya… she’s gone."

He blurted out, his voice filled with dread.

My wolf stirred uncomfortably, a sharp growl rumbling deep in my chest but I forced it down, trying to listen to what he had to say. “What do you mean she's gone?"

My voice was low, almost too low to be threatening, yet the power behind it was undeniable.

Marcus shifted uncomfortably on his feet, searching for the right words to use as he avoided my gaze. I could see the dread on his face but it wasn’t for the fear of what I’ll do to him but the fear of what he had to say.

"I was on my way to release the lost ones like you requested, when I heard a noise in your room." He began, and paused, searching for the next words.

"I went in immediately and all I saw was a broken vase and an open window. Maya was gone and... "He hesitated.

I narrowed my eyes. "And what?"

"And only his lingering scent remain." He continued, and I growled, already anticipating his next words.

“Lucas was there."

I murmured and Marcus slowly nodded his head.

This time around my wolf snapped before I could force him under control, I had been keeping him in the whole time and now he was enraged.

"So you’re telling me Maya is gone?" I snapped, my voice cutting through the air like a whip and he gulped.

Marcus bowed his head immediately, knowing well not to look into my eyes when I was angry.

“I sent the men to look after her but they've searched the entire castle and still no sight of her." He said the words quickly and I felt his expression tensed as his next words seemed to freeze the air around me, "it’s clear that Maya has been kidnapped”
