A Bait

Catherine swallowed, pursing her lips. I could see her jaw flexing, her hand clenched under her sleeve.

"Austin," She said. It was an obvious last attempt. "Austin, look at me."

I turned to Austin, but he didn't look up at all.

"Austin, please. It's me, Catherine. Look at me."

I felt my heart skip a beat as he turned ever so slowly. He lifted his eyes to hers, and raised a brow.

"This is what you wanted to see?" He asked her, then stood up. "Now that you have, can you leave?"

"Austin. You don't...you can't just stop loving me like that. You know it. When you look at her, it's me you want to see and you know it."

"For goodness sake. We are going in circles here. Forget about what we used to share. Forget about everything and just get out, Catherine." His deep voice was steely with anger, and she gave me one last glare, then turned away and left.

Austin stood there for a few seconds, and with a harsh curse under his breath, he walked away.
