It is midnight by the time I get home. Thankfully, my father didn’t come back, Kai Kai was asleep. I was about to head straight to bed when my phone rang.

My heart jumps in my chest.

I didn’t wait for the second ring and instantly picked up his call, almost tripping on my feet, “Hi,” I loosen my tie with my other hand, sitting on the bed while waiting for his voice to come from the other end.

“Sugar…? I miss you, why did you leave so suddenly?” His voice is raspy and breathy.

I feel so bad because I miss him so much too, even thinking about him makes me happy, “Did you read my letter?”

“I did.”

“Where are you?” I couldn’t help but ask, feeling restlessness from the inside that he is not currently at home.

Who knows he might be at his mother’s house which means Ethan will be there.

“I’m home, sugar. I called late, sorry. I just got here.”

“Can I see you?” I swipe to a video call. He does the same with shaky hands.
