LYRA'S POV

The healing room smells like lavender and over sterilization.

Soft sheets beneath me, the low hum of voices outside the door, Ethan's warmth– beside me, but not quite touching.

I'm alive. That's what they keep telling me.

No shit Sherlock!

But “alive” doesn't quite cover the churning in my gut, the fire crawling beneath my skin.

Oh, how I so wanted to wrap my hands around Aurora's throat and give her a taste of how it felt to choke on life.

“Aurora tried to kill me.” I say it flatly. No fanfare. No doubt.

Ethan doesn't flinch. He doesn't deny it either.

Instead, he paces like a caged animal. His jaw tight, fists clenched so hard I can almost hear the tendons pop. He didn't look just mad, no…he looked murderous.

“She claims you slipped.” He mutters eventually, like the words taste like ash in his mouth.

I bark out a laugh that feels like bile at the back of my throat. “Of course she does! She pushed me!”

That fucking psycho– mean girl– Barbie had pushed me like s

LYRA'S POV Silence hangs thick between us, but it isn't uncomfortable– it's the kind of heavy, thoughtful quiet that settles like mist after a storm. Clara lowers herself to a seat on the ground beside me, drawing her knees to her chest, both eyes locked on the pendant that remained resting on the bed. “So…" I begin, hesitant. “Sisters?” “Half-sisters.” Clara says softly. “Your mum and mine were sisters… that makes us…" “Cousins.” I breathe out, a weird mix of disbelief and relief tumbling in my chest. She's family. Suddenly…all those questions about why she's drawn to me, why I always felt tethered to her even before I knew her this well. It wasn't coincidence. It was fate. Clara crosses her legs, tilting her head back, as she stares at the ceiling like answers were carved there. “We're related” I say, voice low. A statement, not a question. It hangs like a fog, refusing to lift…not that I wanted it to. She laughs shakily. “Kinda awkward considering I'm your maid.” “And I

LYRA'S POV The darkness isn't empty. It pulses. Not the kind that comes with sleep. No. This is cold. A drowning breath-snatching, bone-deep kind of dark that buzzes with power and memory. My lungs burn as though I'm truly underwater, pulled by invisible tides deeper into a vast, boundless abyss. It isn't just black. It's weightless, formless, like I'm stepping into a pause between thoughts, it clings to me, yet doesn't touch me. There's no floor beneath me, no air to breathe, yet I'm not suffocating. I'm floating, or maybe I'm falling. It's impossible to tell. My body remains numb. I can't scream. Can't move. For a moment, I wonder if this is death… Then I hear it– my mother's voice. “Lyra.” I had never gotten the chance to properly know her. She died two years following my birth. Dad told me so much about her growing up, every story filled with just how much adoration her had for her. I'd have given anything to get even a minute more with her. To spend more time with the

ETHAN'S POV A message…for me. I take a towards the scout, tension snapping back into my spine. Lyra watched me, eyes wide with worry, as she fiddled with her hands. “From whom?” The scout swallows hard, holding out the letter. “There's no name. Just your title on the envelope. But the scent on it…it's unfamiliar. Not like any wolf.” I take it from him carefully, my eyes narrowing. The paper is old– too old. Sealed with black wax bearing no crest. My gut twists, my wolf beginning to growl softly. Those damn witches. Something about this felt wrong– really wrong. I clear my throat, nod at the scout and force my voice into the register of command. “Dismissed. And tell no one.” He bows without a single hint of hesitation, and retreats, leaving me standing alone with Lyra. My hands continue to clench and unclench around the letter. “Aren't you going to go through it?” She whispers after a few seconds of pin-drop silence. My jaw locks. I can't open it. At least not right away. N

LYRA'S POV “Finish your statement, Ethan.” I say, voice low but unrelenting. “Before you got the chance to, what?” I ask, my voice barely audible. “You don't get to dangle unfinished sentences at me like that, and just stop.” My words come out more broken than I mean it to. Damn. His throat bobs, Adam's apple rising and falling as if the words are physically stuck there. I don't let up. My eyes bore into his like they're scalpels, and I'm here to dissect every damn emotion he's hiding behind that broody Alpha exterior. He hesitates, then leans in, just enough that I can feel the heat of him. “Before I got the chance to show you how much I care.” The words hang in the air, thick and tangled in all the things we've been avoiding. And just like that, the armor I've been wearing– gritted teeth, sarcastic deflections, forced bravado– starts to crack. I step closer, refusing to let him retreat behind silence and half-truths again…not today. My heart isn't just pounding– it's stagi

ETHAN'S POV The sound comes first. A splash– louder than it should be. Violent. Not playful, not casual. The kind that stills the air and sets your instincts on fire. And it came from the riverside. I'm already running. I don't think. I just move. My heart rockets against my ribs as I push through the crowd, my legs carrying me faster than my mind can catch up. Lyra– she had been heading toward the river. I'd seen her walking off. Alone. Her dress flowing behind her, her back stiff with something unresolved, tension maybe… And now– “Move!” I snarl at a group of trainees blocking the path, barrelling past them like they weren't even there. I'm almost there when I see her. A flash of pale skin beneath the surface. Limbs slack. Hair floating like black ink in water. No. No. No. I hurl myself into the river, the shock of the cold water slicing through me like knives. The current isn't fast, but it's murky. Shadows flicker in the depths, and for an awful second, I can't find
