“Please...,” Scarlett choked out between sobs. “Please don’t kill me. I’ll leave you alone, I swear. I’ll run away as far as possible and never come back.”

But it was too late for apologies. For years, I’d suffered at Scarlett’s hands. I was beaten, starved and abused by that entire pack growing up for no good reason other than for their amusement. Now, after I’d finally broken free and found my magic, she expected me to show her mercy. A mercy she never showed me.

How many times had she bruised my skin? How many times had she framed me for offences I never committed? I’d lost count many years ago, back when I was still a child.

But there was no longer anyone left for her to hide behind, that despicable excuse of a first mate, Alpha Liam, now dead. She’d wanted so badly to have him, doing whatever she could so that he would never give me a chance. To never let him see the potential I had inside me. They thought I was ugly... useless... cursed... but, really, it was them all along. They couldn’t possibly compare to the person I was now.

I was something so much more powerful.

“Aurora,” Victor whispered in my ear. “You don’t have to do this yourself. Allow me.”

His hands were wrapped around my body possessively as he spoke, the aura of his Alpha King status radiating off him. A warning of his strength to anyone who dared to defy him or get too close.

He was the most powerful man in these lands, the most feared and revered... and he was mine. My mate. My second chance that had saved me from the depths of hell. A hell which Scarlett had contributed to.

I blinked back the tears as I stared at the last piece of my revenge, watching her now knelt grovelling at my feet pathetically, and knew what needed to be done.

I had to do this. Alone.

“No... I can do this.”

Victor’s reply came only in the form of a kiss to my cheek, the sparks erupts where his lips touched my skin, and he stood back to let me proceed. It gave me the strength I needed to finally end this.

“Goodbye Scarlett,” I said over the sound of her continued pleas for mercy.

And before I could change my mind, I honed my energy and conjured a ball of white flame in my palm.

A flame that quickly consumed her entire body, the crackling almost as loud as her screams in agony. But it was a sound that marked the end of her terror, allowing for the scars she’d left on my soul to start healing.

I was finally free. I’d gotten my revenge.

There was no one left to interfere with my matebond with Victor. We could finally start a family, just as we’d always wanted. I could——

——— ‘What a predictable ending,’ I thought to myself, dropping my phone onto the bed next to me.

And to think I’d thought this werewolf web novel would be different. They really got me excited in the first half, believing maybe the storyline would be unique, but it turns out it was just the same as the others. How many of these had I read now? Fifty? A hundred? Did I even care anymore?

With a yawn, I pulled my tired body out of bed and started moving towards the kitchen. It was late, probably well into the AM hours, and the entire house was as silent as a mouse. I knew my roommate was probably well and truly asleep by now. Unlike me, she actually tried to get a good nights rest before work in the morning. I highly doubted she ever got up at ungodly hours to rummage the fridge for a snack.

Aaaaaaand... no luck.

I stared at the contents of the fridge with tired dismay, eyeing the choices unenthusiastically.

Milk... juice... some old looking grapes. There weren’t a lot of options that didn’t require cooking.

But as my stomach rumbled, reminding me why I came here in the first place, I started to think that perhaps the grapes I bought two weeks ago didn’t look so bad after all.

With a sigh of resignation, I popped one into my mouth and pulled the packet out of the fridge to continue eating the rest on the bench.

Only, as I turned around, the light of the fridge now illuminating the entire kitchen... I realised I was not alone.

He stood at the doorway to the living room, dressed all in black with his face covered by a mask and hoodie. In one hand was my car keys, the ones I’d left on the rack near the door, and in his other hand... a gun.

My mouth opened slowly in shocked silence as we stared at each other, and the grape I’d just tried to eat fell to the ground, rolling a short distance between us.

“You’re not my roommate,” I managed to mumble out numbly.

And those were the only words spoken. Without any time to react, his hand moved up quickly, milliseconds before a loud bang rung out that almost blinded me in the dimly lit room. A bang that was accompanied by a red spray that hit every surface in the area.

Was that... from me? Did I do that?

My body shaking, I looked down towards my chest and confirmed my worst fears. There it was. The thing I had only ever seen before on TV or in movies. So vivid and real... and...

Painful.

With a scream, I fell to the ground, my lungs quickly filling faster than I could get the air out. How could this happen? Why me?

“Natalie?!”

I could vaguely hear my roommate scream out my name, but I wasn’t sure what was happening anymore. Was the man still here? Did he flee once he fired his gun? She needed to run... to get to safety... she...

My head was becoming foggier, each thought harder than the last to form or concentrate on. Was this really it? Was I actually going to die because of a goddamn snack craving?

The answer was yes. Yes, I was.

And with one final choking breath, everything went dark.

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for reading my new book :) This is one that I started working on back in 2022, but I'm now in a position where I can finally write it out properly. I'm a big fan of isekai tropes and I always enjoy writing a mix of that genre with the werewolf one. Hopefully, you will enjoy it as much as I do. If you do, please support me in whatever way you can - leaving comments, gems, reviews, or simply just reading the chapters and enjoying them. Everything helps! Thank you so much <3

“...Liam?” I choked out, my head starting to spin. “You’re sending me... back to Liam?”How did he even know I was here? How could he possibly have found that out? All the people here who knew me by the name of Scarlett would have no reason to speak to Liam and divulge that information. Unless—Oh, God... it was that man.The sketchy one from the market. Liam must have sent scouts out to track me down, reporting my whereabouts back to him. But... why? Why go to all that trouble just to drag me back to Easthaven? As far as I knew, he never sent spies after Aurora in the book. Though I suppose Aurora’s location was public knowledge early on, her relationship with Victor being news that spread quickly throughout the Empire.I guess I hadn’t given Liam enough credit for how dangerous he really was. He’d barely even crossed my mind since coming here. Due to the fact he didn’t develop his immediate obsession with Aurora, like he had in the book, I’d wrongly thought that there wouldn’t be an

Things didn’t feel the same after that day.Another week had passed since the parade, and the people quickly fell back into their normal routines as the royals returned home. They’d only left for a few days, barely enough time to notice their absence. But I never got the chance to enjoy it, as I had originally hoped to.Something had been shaken within me.No longer was I only navigating my survival around Aurora’s storyline, but now there was something else out there, something unknown, which felt as if it could come for me at any moment. Maybe right when I least expected it. Aurora was dangerous, sure, but she was a danger I was at least aware of, someone I knew almost as well as she knew herself. But this...? This mysterious entity who was looking for me...?Just who were they? What did they want? Those questions would keep me awake at night, only able to distract myself when I poured my energy into working at the tavern or drawing. The escapes were small, but I was grateful for wha

I winced as the man’s strength held me, still healing from the injuries the week prior. The place he restrained was where a larger gash had been torn along my arm during the fight, now only showing as a nasty bruise in the area. Truthfully, I’d mostly forgotten about it, but as he grabbed me firmly now, I was painfully reminded just how fragile I still was.“Scarlett Azalea, right? From Easthaven?”“Let me go.”I tried to pull my arm away, ignoring the pain of my injury as I did so, but he only held me tighter in his grip.“Why are you being so difficult? Just answer the question.”“I don’t know who you’re talking about. I’m not Scarlett,” I lied, still attempting to free myself. He was getting frustrated now, his expression darkening. Clearly my attempts at dismissing his questions weren’t what he expected. But I was no longer interested in being polite or avoiding a public scene. Something inside was telling me to do whatever it took to survive.“Why lie to—”“—Let me go right now o

To literally no one’s surprise, he clearly still didn’t care for me.Those few seconds our eyes met, it felt like a thousand thoughts and feelings were conveyed. His initial surprise of seeing me was first, his features softening for the first time, but it was quickly followed by that same cold gaze I’d seen back when we’d originally met. That same expression that made me feel sick.My hands were shaking as I watched him, my breath catching in my throat. The stupid matebond was reacting as though he was going to run over and kiss me the moment he saw me, sending those persistent thoughts through my head to reach out to him... to touch him... to feel his warm skin under my fingers.Did he suffer from the same problem as me?...Did he also fantasise about what it would be like to kiss me?Well, if he did, he sure did a great job of ignoring those thoughts, staying adamant on his stance that I wasn’t worthy of being his mate. Which I still couldn’t entirely blame him for thinking that, g

“Ah, thank you, Natalie,” the man said as I placed his ale on the table in front of him. “I’ve missed having a drink here after a hard day’s work. You’re truly a gift from the Goddess herself.”I beamed my best customer service smile at him. His face was becoming familiar, recognising him from the few times he’d visited over the past week that I’d been working at Hazel’s tavern. Even though it had been a short period of time, the regulars were already starting to know me by name, all of whom had been really lovely in welcoming me.“Not a problem!” I replied cheerily, taking the coins from his hand. “Give me a yell if you need anything else.”With that, I went back to the counter to deposit the money into the register.“They’re really starting to warm up to you, aye?” Hazel asked, walking out from the kitchen to lean against the counter. She was drying her hands with a towel as she gave me a small smile.“I hope so,” I replied, closing the draw.Hazel had been supervising me, helping m

  • The Alpha's Villainess   Chapter Twenty-Three

“So, how do you both know the Alpha King?” I asked as we finished up eating. I’d noticed how they referred to him by his first name, and Thaddeus himself had claimed they were old friends. The two exchanged a glance, as if recalling fonder years of their youth, and a mischievous smile twitched across their lips. “Well... it was when we were all much younger. As children, really,” Hazel started. “Thaddeus would sneak out of the palace and play with us in the street, getting up to all sorts of no good. This was well before we found out he was the heir to the throne, of course. As kids, we didn’t care about showing up to the public appearances the royals would do.”“No, the Capital is so large that we didn’t learn his real identity until he was well into his teen years, unable to hide his aura from us anymore,” Rubeus added.Hazel nodded. “He just wanted to be a normal child, I think. A break from his royal duties and responsibilities. But he fooled us for many years – not that we would
