Lila's POV

I was forcefully brought back to consciousness when a cold bucket of water was poured on me. Shivering from the cold, I looked around my surroundings and noticed I was locked in a cell in the Nightshade pack’s dungeon.

As the memory of what happened last night at the mating ball ceremony came flooding back to me, it brought me to the present reality of my life.

The cell was suddenly opened by a fierce-looking guard.

“Who are you? Why am I here?” Lila asked.

The guard came inside and dragged her out without saying a word. He held her roughly, dragging her with him to wherever he was taking her.

Where are you taking me to? Please tell me if my mother is still alive. She begged the guard, but he kept ignoring her as he dragged her along with him, and they suddenly stopped.

Lila looked up to see herself in the pack’s new building. Her father just finished the new pack house building project and planned to move in after the mating ball ceremony, before he was killed. Who was this villain that killed her father and took over the Nightshade pack? she wondered.

As if he could hear Lila's thoughts, Alpha Vance came out of the new building and the guard bowed to him in respect.

My greetings Alpha Vance. Here is the late Alpha’s daughter you asked to be brought to you. The guard said and pushed Lila forward.

Lila started shaking in fear, her heart was beating fast when she saw his face and his cold look. She is standing right in front of the man who murdered her father and captured her. She has heard about Alpha Vance's acts of wickedness toward other packs and his many concubines.

“I was told you're cursed and without a wolf. You are weak and useless and don’t have any value to this pack except in my bed as my concubine. Choose now to be one of my concubines or you die.” Alpha Vance said in a mean and authoritative voice.

The pack members once threatened to sell her to Alpha Vance as one of his concubines. She guesses their wish is about to become a reality.

Lila doesn't care if she lives or dies anymore. She has lost everything precious to her. She believes her mother, too, was killed by the enemies.

“What's the need of being alive anymore?” She was about to tell him she would rather die than be his concubine when her mother, Luna Alina was also dragged out by the same guard that dragged her to Alpha Vance.

You're still alive, Mom. Are you alright? Did they hurt you? Lila threw many questions at her mother without waiting for her to reply.

“Enough of this nonsense.” Alpha Vance bellowed which made Lila and her mother shake in fear.

I gave you an option. You have a choice to save you and your mother's lives by being one of my concubines, or I’ll kill both of you now.

It was so heart-wrenching for her to see her mother go through this after losing her father. She just has to save them and keep them alive until they take back her father's pack.

“I’m not doing this because I want to; I'm doing it to save my mother's life and not because I want to be your concubine.”

Lila sneered at him.

“It's none of my business if you want to or not. My guards will take you to my mansion.” Alpha Vance bellowed as he walked out on them.

“I'm sorry, Mom. I'm so sorry.” Lila muffled in her mom's arms as tears began to flow down her cheeks. Her mother's posture was bad, she could tell from the way she was struggling to hold her. She must have been through so much.

“It's okay dear. You didn't have to sell yourself to him, Alpha Vance is too ruthless for you. You shouldn't have,” Her mother lamented.

“I had no choice, Mom. I had to do something or else we wouldn't be alive to take revenge on him.” She explained, releasing herself from their embrace.

The guard scoffed and tilted his head to signal her to move along. She gave her mother one last long hug before she was dragged out by the guard.

Why am I so unlucky? Why does the moon goddess hate me so much? Tears came pouring down her face; Lila cried uncontrollably as the guard led her to Vance's mansion.

They got to the front of the mansion’s gate and her hands began to tremble. She was terrified of what she would be expected to do as they walked into the mansion and went straight into Vance's chambers.

Alpha Vance was seated on his gold-encrusted couch that faced the door to the chambers. He got off the couch, and his cold eyes were fixed on her; his gaze pierced into her soul, so that she couldn't dare make eye contact for too long.

“You have made yourself useful for once in your pathetic life. Your mother would be free to leave or stay.”

Lila's eyes were streaming down with tears. She has made a huge mistake. She couldn't hold in the pain she felt in her heart; if and only if she had a wolf, perhaps things wouldn't have turned out the way it is.

“Your weakness amuses me.” Vance babbled, an awkward frown taking control of his face.

He's right, without a wolf, I'm nothing, just another pitiful weakling.

“I'm more than you think,” She responded, wiping the tears off my face.

"Haha!” Vance erupted with laughter. “Oh really? I would love to see what you think you are.” Vance asked sarcastically and placed his hands on my shoulders, pretending to care about what I had to say.

“Look here, I have two sons and fifty concubines. You shall not only serve me but them also.” Vance said in a firm voice, displaying his dominance.

Fifty concubines? Is that even allowed? What a piece of shit…!

Cole's POV.The night bled red above the forest, the sky cracked open with the pulse of something ancient and furious. The scent of blood, ash, and fear hung thick in the air, clawing down my throat like smoke. Every heartbeat was a countdown, every breath a war drum. They’d taken her.The Bloodthorn elders had dared to take her.Lila.Her name tore through my mind like a blade, leaving behind the echo of her voice, her warmth, the last flicker of her eyes before they dragged her into the heart of the cursed woods. My wolf howled inside me — wild, relentless — but the forest swallowed the sound whole. The Bloodthorn Pack had always been shadows and whispers, but now they were real, rising from the bones of old kingdoms, twisting the curse that had nearly killed me into a weapon of their own. And she — my mate, my forbidden light — was their key.I could still smell her blood on the wind, faint but enough. It drove me forw

Cole’s POV The forest was dying. Every tree groaned like a wounded beast, their roots tearing from the earth as the curse spread through the soil in veins of silver light. The air burned cold — not the kind that bit the skin, but the kind that devoured it. Cole Bennett ran through it anyway. Branches whipped across his arms, slicing through the fabric of his shirt, but he barely felt them. His lungs ached, his legs screamed, his fever burned like fire under his skin — but he didn’t stop. He couldn’t. He could still smell her. Lila. Her scent — wildflowers and rain — drifted faintly through the chaos, and it was the only thing that kept him sane. She was here, somewhere inside this rotting heart of Nightshade. “Hold on, Lila,” he growled, pushing harder. The forest shifted around him like a living thing, trees twisting into monstrous shapes, roots curling to block his path. He swung his blade in wide, brutal arcs, cutting through the growth, silver sparks flying with e

Lila’s POVWhen the darkness took me, it did not feel like dying. It felt like remembering. The world that unfolded around me was not the forest I’d fallen into, nor the clearing where Cole had called my name. This place was something older — carved out of silence and sorrow, a realm where time did not dare move forward. The ground shimmered like black glass, and above it hung a moon the color of bone, cracked and bleeding faint silver tears. My breath misted in the air, though I wasn’t sure if I was breathing at all. The curse hummed beneath my skin, alive, whispering to me in a thousand voices that were somehow all my own.Welcome home, it said.I turned slowly, my reflection rippling in the glass beneath my feet. But it wasn’t just me staring back. Her — the woman I’d seen in flashes and dreams. The one whose blood birthed this curse centuries ago. Pale hair drifting like smoke, eyes the same molten silver that now haunte

The moon hung blood-red over the Nightshade borderlands, its light veiled in clouds that swirled like ash and smoke. Cole Bennett had ridden through three territories without rest. His wolf was exhausted, his body burning with fever, but his will was unyielding. The mark of the curse, a jagged black vein stretching from his collarbone down his chest, pulsed with each heartbeat. He hadn’t told anyone that it had begun to spread to him. Not even Lila. Especially not Lila.Every second counted now.Cole urged his steed forward, galloping into the howling woods where legend said the Moon Healer once lived—an ancient witch who had cured kings and damned beasts alike. But the path was treacherous. The deeper he went, the thicker the mist became, until the world was nothing but silver fog and the echo of his own ragged breathing.“Hold on, Lila,” he muttered, his voice hoarse. “Just hold on for me.”The memory of her last look haunted

The forest no longer sounded like a forest. It breathed.Every tree seemed alive, every gust of wind carried whispers that spoke his name. Cole stumbled through the mist, his heartbeat uneven, his claws half drawn as the fever pulsed beneath his skin. The curse hadn’t killed him yet—but it was feeding.“Lila!” he called into the haze, his voice low, rough, almost human again. The echo bounced off the roots and stones, coming back to him broken.Silence.Then a faint hum—soft, distant, and unmistakably hers.He followed it.The fog clung to his boots, curling around his legs like hands trying to pull him down. He forced himself forward, one breath at a time, one heartbeat at a time. The scent of her still lingered—faint jasmine, cold rain, and something new beneath it: frost and moonlight, the scent of the curse. He hated it. And yet, he couldn’t stop chasing it.Each step took him deeper into what remained of the Nightshade woods. The sky above had turned to silver-gray; no sun, no mo

Lila's POV The first thing I remember is the cold.It wasn’t the kind that prickled the skin—it was deeper, an ache that crawled into the marrow, whispering that warmth was a memory. My eyes fluttered open to darkness. Not the kind that comes with night, but something older, thicker—alive. The air shimmered with it, pulsing faintly, as though it breathed with me.For a long moment, I didn’t know who I was.My name hovered on the edge of consciousness, a taste I couldn’t quite recall. Lila… The sound of it echoed faintly in the back of my mind, but it felt borrowed, as though it belonged to someone else entirely. Then I heard him.“Little wolf,” a voice murmured through the dark, smooth as velvet and edged with danger. “You wander too far into my hollow again.”I spun around, my heart hammering—but there was no one there. Only the sound of my own frantic breathing and the whisper of unseen winds. My body t
