Lila's POV

I was forcefully brought back to consciousness when a cold bucket of water was poured on me. Shivering from the cold, I looked around my surroundings and noticed I was locked in a cell in the Nightshade pack’s dungeon.

As the memory of what happened last night at the mating ball ceremony came flooding back to me, it brought me to the present reality of my life.

The cell was suddenly opened by a fierce-looking guard.

“Who are you? Why am I here?” Lila asked.

The guard came inside and dragged her out without saying a word. He held her roughly, dragging her with him to wherever he was taking her.

Where are you taking me to? Please tell me if my mother is still alive. She begged the guard, but he kept ignoring her as he dragged her along with him, and they suddenly stopped.

Lila looked up to see herself in the pack’s new building. Her father just finished the new pack house building project and planned to move in after the mating ball ceremony, before he was killed. Who was this villain that killed her father and took over the Nightshade pack? she wondered.

As if he could hear Lila's thoughts, Alpha Vance came out of the new building and the guard bowed to him in respect.

My greetings Alpha Vance. Here is the late Alpha’s daughter you asked to be brought to you. The guard said and pushed Lila forward.

Lila started shaking in fear, her heart was beating fast when she saw his face and his cold look. She is standing right in front of the man who murdered her father and captured her. She has heard about Alpha Vance's acts of wickedness toward other packs and his many concubines.

“I was told you're cursed and without a wolf. You are weak and useless and don’t have any value to this pack except in my bed as my concubine. Choose now to be one of my concubines or you die.” Alpha Vance said in a mean and authoritative voice.

The pack members once threatened to sell her to Alpha Vance as one of his concubines. She guesses their wish is about to become a reality.

Lila doesn't care if she lives or dies anymore. She has lost everything precious to her. She believes her mother, too, was killed by the enemies.

“What's the need of being alive anymore?” She was about to tell him she would rather die than be his concubine when her mother, Luna Alina was also dragged out by the same guard that dragged her to Alpha Vance.

You're still alive, Mom. Are you alright? Did they hurt you? Lila threw many questions at her mother without waiting for her to reply.

“Enough of this nonsense.” Alpha Vance bellowed which made Lila and her mother shake in fear.

I gave you an option. You have a choice to save you and your mother's lives by being one of my concubines, or I’ll kill both of you now.

It was so heart-wrenching for her to see her mother go through this after losing her father. She just has to save them and keep them alive until they take back her father's pack.

“I’m not doing this because I want to; I'm doing it to save my mother's life and not because I want to be your concubine.”

Lila sneered at him.

“It's none of my business if you want to or not. My guards will take you to my mansion.” Alpha Vance bellowed as he walked out on them.

“I'm sorry, Mom. I'm so sorry.” Lila muffled in her mom's arms as tears began to flow down her cheeks. Her mother's posture was bad, she could tell from the way she was struggling to hold her. She must have been through so much.

“It's okay dear. You didn't have to sell yourself to him, Alpha Vance is too ruthless for you. You shouldn't have,” Her mother lamented.

“I had no choice, Mom. I had to do something or else we wouldn't be alive to take revenge on him.” She explained, releasing herself from their embrace.

The guard scoffed and tilted his head to signal her to move along. She gave her mother one last long hug before she was dragged out by the guard.

Why am I so unlucky? Why does the moon goddess hate me so much? Tears came pouring down her face; Lila cried uncontrollably as the guard led her to Vance's mansion.

They got to the front of the mansion’s gate and her hands began to tremble. She was terrified of what she would be expected to do as they walked into the mansion and went straight into Vance's chambers.

Alpha Vance was seated on his gold-encrusted couch that faced the door to the chambers. He got off the couch, and his cold eyes were fixed on her; his gaze pierced into her soul, so that she couldn't dare make eye contact for too long.

“You have made yourself useful for once in your pathetic life. Your mother would be free to leave or stay.”

Lila's eyes were streaming down with tears. She has made a huge mistake. She couldn't hold in the pain she felt in her heart; if and only if she had a wolf, perhaps things wouldn't have turned out the way it is.

“Your weakness amuses me.” Vance babbled, an awkward frown taking control of his face.

He's right, without a wolf, I'm nothing, just another pitiful weakling.

“I'm more than you think,” She responded, wiping the tears off my face.

"Haha!” Vance erupted with laughter. “Oh really? I would love to see what you think you are.” Vance asked sarcastically and placed his hands on my shoulders, pretending to care about what I had to say.

“Look here, I have two sons and fifty concubines. You shall not only serve me but them also.” Vance said in a firm voice, displaying his dominance.

Fifty concubines? Is that even allowed? What a piece of shit…!

The door to the beyond slammed shut with a sound like the birth of the universe, and the pulsing power that threatened to pull everything into it vanished as quickly as it had appeared. But the calm was deceptive—even as Cole and Lila stood frozen with their hands outstretched, a wave of dark energy washed over Balance’s Gate, causing the floating platforms to shake and the bridges of light to flicker. From the sky above, ships made of black crystal descended—hundreds of them, their hulls etched with symbols of conquest and control. At their head flew a vessel larger than any building in the city, its prow shaped like a snarling wolf’s head that glowed with sickly green light.“Alpha Vance,” Cole whispered, stumbling backward as pain shot through his chest. He had been feeling weak for weeks—his body, restored to mortal form after so long as a guardian, was struggling to hold on. “He’s found us.”Lila caught Cole as he swayed, her eyes scanning the sky with fierce determination. “Go h

  • The Alpha's concubine mate    Chapter Hundred and Twelve: The First Choice.

Certainty’s book hovered above their head, its pages turning on their own, revealing the first choice ever made—the moment when existence decided to be something instead of nothing. The words on the page glowed with absolute power, and as Certainty’s stone hand reached for it, reality itself began to shift. Worlds that had chosen peace began to prepare for war. Children who had picked up books dropped them for weapons. Scientists who had shared their discoveries locked them away. The single fixed path was taking hold, and there was no turning back unless action was taken now.Cole and Lila looked at each other across the web of doors, their forms woven into the very structure of possibility. Every oath they had made, every promise they had kept, every sacrifice they had given was built on the principle that no one should choose for another. But now, the alternative was the end of all choice forever.“We have to break our oath,” Lila said, her voice echoing through every door, every he

The void that chose nothing crashed toward them, its teeth like broken doorways, its breath like the silence of empty worlds. Cole and Lila stood side by side, their hands clasped, as the shadow of no choice washed over them, threatening to erase every path they had opened, every life that had been set free. “This is what happens when freedom is unguided,” Consequence said, their shifting form standing firm beside them. “Fear leads to inaction, inaction leads to emptiness. The cycle may be broken, but emptiness waits for every choice not made.” The void struck, and the doors of possibility around them began to shatter, turning to dust that dissolved into nothing. Lila felt the pull of it—an easy peace in choosing nothing, in letting existence fade back into formlessness. She could see why so many would give in to it. But then she looked at Cole, at the love in his eyes, at the life they had almost chosen for themselves. She thought of all the

The doors of chaos spread like a plague across all existence. In every world, storms carved new mountains from flat plains, plagues turned life to dust, and fires consumed civilizations that had stood for millennia—only for new land to rise, new life to bloom, new cities to build themselves from the ashes. It was the cycle Chaos had promised: endless creation, endless destruction, no balance to hold it in check. The Guardian Balance raced from world to world, trying to stem the tide, but for every door they sealed, three more opened. Jade led the guardians in defending Balance’s Gate, Lyra poured over ancient texts searching for answers, and Cole’s father trained new warriors to stand against the chaos—but nothing slowed it. The cycle was already taking hold, woven into the fabric of existence itself.“We can’t keep fighting it like this,” the Guardian Balance said, their voice echoing from the network of doors as they returned to the Outside. They looked at the scattered pieces of th

The white door swallowed them whole, and for a moment there was nothing—no light, no dark, no time, no space. Then Cole and Lila found themselves standing on a plain of pure nothingness, stretching out endlessly in all directions. Above them hung the white door, now massive enough to span the horizon, and from beyond it poured a power so alien it made their bones ache. The New Balance child stood beside them, their starlight skin glowing brighter as the alien power washed over them. “This is the Outside,” the child said. “Where nothing exists. Where the One Who Is Not Lives. It has no form, no name, no purpose—except to unmake everything that is.”A low hum filled the nothingness, growing louder until it became a sound like grinding teeth and breaking stars. The air in front of them twisted and warped, and something emerged—if it could be called emerging. It was a shape that defied all logic: angles that bent back on themselves, colors that had no place in any world, edges that cut th

  • The Alpha's concubine mate    Chapter Hundred and Eight: The Rift Grows.

The rift in the Door of Balance grew larger with each passing day. It was no longer a tiny crack—now it was wide enough to fit a person, and its dark energy pulsed with the faint, familiar power of the Primordial Void. Cole and Lila stood guard in front of the door, the merged key floating between them, their power weaving into the door to hold the rift closed.Behind them, a city had grown—Balance’s Gate—a place where people from all worlds could gather, where gods and mortals worked together to maintain the balance. Jade was the city’s leader, Lyra its keeper of knowledge, and Cole’s father its master of training. Aether and the other gods stood watch around the door, their powers merging with Cole and Lila’s.“The rift is growing faster,” Lyra said, walking up to them with a scroll in her hand. “I’ve been studying ancient texts. There’s only one way to seal it permanently. We need to find the Heart of All Things—a power that existed before even the Primordial Void, a power that can
