Chapter 23

LENA’S POV

Arlo’s stare was enough to break bricks, it only took the mercy of the moon goddess that I didn't dissolve in water. The intensity of his stare was enough to bring back the dead to life.

He didn’t say anything, he just sat there with his arms crossed, his expression swinging between a mixture of pride, suspicion, and that subtle anger he always tried to hide behind a smirk.

I was still standing, my hands clenched at my sides, because I didn’t know what to do with them.

I really must have gone mad. I guess they were right, desperation can make you do things you don't want to do.

Nyra was right, Fate had a way of coming back to bite you at your buttocks. Fate was truly a cruel thing.

“I know you hate me right now,” I began, my voice shaking. “I know things got messy between us, but I’m not here to fight you, trust me, I’m here because I’m out of options.”

He arched an eyebrow. “Didn’t look like you were out of options last time I saw you. Looked like you made a choice.”

Lena’s POVCasey held my hand tight as we walked back to his dorm. My heart was pounding hard, but being with him made me feel safe for a moment. Immediately we got to his apartment, I dropped my stuff at the corner, and turned to him, forcing a smile. He walked closer to me, wrapping his hands around my waist. “Do you really have to go because of one man?”“You know me, I'm not someone to give up, but right now, I have no choice, I have to do this.”“Who is this guy really? A Mafia? A governor's son, you know my parents work for the white house.”I shook my head. He always knew how to make me laugh. “His parents are power people but I'm not sure they are as powerful as he is,” I revealed, releasing myself from his grip and walled away. “What's the deal with this guy anyway? You only told me he is your ex but it looks like he was more than just an ex.”I nodded in agreement. “He is more than an ex, we were supposed to get married but I left, his family…his family wasn't entirely t

ARLO’S POVI woke up to Briar’s voice somewhere in the distance, muttering something about me being dead and for the first time in years since I knew Briar, this the first time I was happy hearing that fucker's voice. I groaned, slowly moving my head that felt like it had been split in two with an axe. My eyes blinked open, my vision was still blurry as the ceiling seemed to be dancing. The floor underneath me was hard and cold. My limbs were heavy. What the hell happened? Oh yeah, Tobren came into my house. I inhaled deeply, glancing around, wondering why it was so cold. Then I realized something worse— I was naked.“Briar!” I groaned, dragging my hand over my face. “What the fuck…”“Look who’s alive,” he said, voice too cheerful for the hour, wherever the hell hour it was. “Thought you died or masturbated yourself to sleep. Honestly not sure which would be more disturbing.”I sat up too fast and groaned, holding my head. “Shut the fuck up.”He laughed and tossed me a blanket. “You

LENA’S POVI stepped out of the dorm with my bag over my shoulder, my heart thudding like a drum in my chest, ignoring the people's piercing stares. Who wouldn't be? I was with three traveling bags and the semester just started. But who cares what they think I just needed to get to the bus station, I didn't know where I was going but I definitely wasn't planning to stay in this country…Maybe Korea or somewhere nice in Africa…Nigeria maybe. I picked up my phone, and dialed my secretary's number. “Get me the fastest flight to Nigeria.”As I hurried down the path, dragging my bag behind me, I saw someone up ahead. Nathan. He was walking in from the other direction, his hands in his pockets, his head bent low like he was deep in thought. He looked up just in time to see me, and his face changed to a curious look. “Lena?” he called, stopping in his tracks.I paused. Crap…Not now.He walked closer, his eyes fixed on the bag. “Where are you going?” he asked, brows furrowed. “Did you an

LENA’S POVThe classroom was too quiet for a Thursday morning, everyone sat quietly in the class like an apocalypse happened the previous night. My pen scratched against the notebook as I jotted down keywords from the lecture, trying hard to keep my attention on the board trying my best not to think of Tobren or Arlo. Professor Deaks was mumbling something about historical timelines, pacing slowly, unaware that my focus was wearing thin. Then my phone vibrated, twice. I quickly grabbed the phone, squeezing it between my thighs. Every head in the lecture hall turned to me like I’d just dropped a bomb. I mumbled a quiet apology and silenced the phone. Fortunately professor Deaks was a mature man unlike the rest, he continued the class, paying no attention to me. When the class attention had finally left me, I turned to my phone, my brows furrowed in curiosity. It was an unknown number but it wasn’t the caller that made me freeze. It was the image that popped up the moment I tapped

ARLO’S POVThe moment Lena left, I sat on a seat, staring into the dim-lit room. My knuckles were still clenched, the glass I held was sweating just as hard as my back. I was still trying to get my head around the fact that she showed up here. She really had a lot of balls for a girl. First she tried to break the bond, then she insulted me and chose a mortal over me, now that she is in trouble she comes running back like I'm some kind of fool. What does she really take me for?I inhaled deeply, pouring myself another glass of wine, then another until the bottle was empty. Briar strolled in, a half-eaten apple in his hand like he hadn’t just missed a hurricane.“She's gone?” he asked, biting into the fruit with a crunch.I ignored him reaching for another bottle. “Do you think I have changed?” “Well,” he shrugged, taking another bite of the Apple. “Love can change a man just like you.”I knew exactly where he was going to, so I stopped him immediately. “Don't start with me, plea

  • The Alpha’s forbidden Flame   Chapter 22

ARLO’S POVI stretched myself on couch, one leg flung over the back, the other foot resting on the coffee table. I usually did this pose each time I was reflecting over my life and that was when I did something stupid, which I hardly do. But today I did the most stupid thing mankind have ever seen. I went after a woman. I fucking went after a woman, a stripper and for some reason I wasn't made that I did that, I was mad that I couldn't win her over. Briar was across the room, tossing peanuts into his mouth like it was a professional sport. The TV was playing some horror movie in the background, the volume low enough that it was more noise than entertainment.“Man,” Briar said through a mouthful, “you look like a guy who just got dumped or punched in the chest. Which was it?”My jaw clenched, and I kept my eyes on the ceiling. I’d replayed the scene at Casey's house at least thirty times in my head. My blood still boiled thinking about it.“He invited her over for dinner,” I finally

LENA’S POVMy legs glued to the floor as I stared at him. Tobren was the last person I wanted to see, I could manage Arlo but Tobren, he was a whole different level. The air felt like needles piercing my lungs, it was like Tobren’s presence was poison…basically it was, he was a half witch…the dark magic flows through his veins. “Get out,” I said, my voice low but firm. My grip on the towel tightened, maintaining eye contact with him, trying to show no fear but in reality, I was scared. He smirked like I’d told a joke. “Not even a ‘hello’? You used to be more polite.”“I said get out,” I snapped. “Leave while I'm still being nice,” I threatened but it was a joke. This was Tobren, what could I do to him? He was nearly invisible, just the snap of his fingers can send me to the underworld.“I came to see you and you don't even appreciate it,” he frowned. “Do you hate me that much that you can't even bear to see me?” “You don’t belong here,” I said, holding my head up. “You never di

LENA'S POVI slammed the door behind me, tossed the half-wilted bouquet in the trash, and kicked off my boots like they’d personally offended me.“Ivy!” I called out, scanning the room for her but there was no one. “Isn't she back from her date? She better be back,” I muttered to myself. A second later, her head popped out from the kitchen, spoon in mouth, a bowl in hand. “You look like someone just showed up uninvited, declared you their soulmate, and then insulted your new man.”I squinted. “Were you eavesdropping?”“Wait, is that what happened? Please don't tell me it actually happened.”I rolled my eyes and slumped onto the couch. “He came back. Arlo.”Ivy’s eyes lit up like it was Christmas morning and she was drunk. “oh my God.”“I know right,” I let out a sigh, throwing my top to the other side of the couch. “Did you tell him anything?”She tilted her head immediately, pressing her lips into a thin line. “No,” she frowned. “I didn't even see him today, it was just me and Bria
