He then hands me his jersey number 18, and the screaming around us gets louder. “ For you, sugar,” he winks. I took the damp shirt in my trembling hands, not believing what had happened.

“ t-thanks,” I said breathlessly, just overwhelmed by everything.

“ Let me smell it! oh my god!” Lia said, yanking it out of my hands and putting her face into it, breathing in deeply, coughing a little as water formed in her eyes. “ Okay, it went better in my head,” she quickly pushed it away from her face, and Jake burst out laughing.

I could not help but laugh as Jake recounted the highlights of the games, making exaggerated hand movements. The crowd leaves after a while, and Lia drags Brianna off somewhere, saying she will let us have our ‘alone time.'’

“ So, how was the game? And how was I ?” Jake asks. I didn’t know how to tell him that I couldn’t really tell the players apart with their helmets, especially since I didn’t know his jersey number until now.
