Chapter 5

Sophia Pov.

As I waited for the water to boil, I ponder on the appearance of Noah’s brother. He hasn’t mentioned anything about his disappearance which is rather strange. He should be reeling with words of who took him or where he was. I didn’t want to get in between the reunion of the two brothers,so I chose to stay quiet as they chatted excitedly.

The sound of the boiling kettle brought my attention back. I pulled out three mugs and filled them with the water before adding the instant coffee then stir. I placed each cup beside each plate of toast and eggs. Cleaning up the kitchen counter, I washed and dried my hands before sitting down in front of my own plate.

“Breakfast is ready for anyone who feels hungry!” I yelled with my head angled at the stairs. I knew they could smell it before I had to say it. Just wanted them to know it was for them not only me.

My phone rang beside me, Jeremy. I wonder why he would call this early when were going to meet at the office.

“Yes Jer.” I answered with an uninterested voice.

“Check your email now and what’s up with the tone? Not my fault I have to call to tell you.” He said and ended the call.

Prick. Always feeling smart when actually he is the dumbest.

“Good morning.” Someone said. I quickly looked up and pocket my phone back.

“Hey, good morning. Breakfast is ready choose a plate.” I gestured at the two served meals.

Noah’s brother nodded and sat opposite me. He took a sip of the coffee and glanced at me with a quirk eyebrows, I forced a smile and nodded.

“My brother told me how you have been supporting him. I want to thank you for that.” He said after he took a bite of the toast.

“It’s my pleasure. His is a good man and doesn’t deserve what Marcus did to him.” I said.

He nodded and took another sip before dropping the mug, he whispered. “Marcus.”

I looked at him coyly as I sipped my own coffee. I needed to get the question from my mind. I couldn’t keep holding it in.

“Was he behind your disappearance?” I said finally.

He smiled and shook his head. “ I don’t know that’s why I haven’t said anything about it. I thought it would be him but there’s nothing linking him in any way.”

I frowned. “ You did research?”

He nodded. “ Yeah, when I got out.”

“ When did you get out?” I asked. Something wasn’t right with the conversation from his side.

“ After Marcus took over the pack.”.

I was silent for a while. Trying to process and ignore some negative ideas popping in about Noah’s brother.

“Look Sophia, I know you are being all suspicious and stuff but trust me when I tell you that I had no idea about Marcus plan or took part of it.” He said as he stared deeply into my eyes.

I stared for a while before I released my stalled breathe. “ I hope you are saying the truth, because I don’t really like liars.”

I grabbed my keys and bag before walking out of the house leaving only Noah and his sibling. Even though something told me to stay back, I just wanted to believe his words. Noah has a lot on his plate now and it won’t be nice to add another in it.

“You still hanging out with that stranger you helped many nights ago?” Jeremy said as he popped his head into my cubicle.

“I don’t have time for your troubles Jeremy, go find someone else to tease.” I replied with a frown.

“ You’re such a vibe killer.” He whined and left.

I shook my head and went back to scroll through the document sent to me by my boss. As much as I love the supernatural world, I also have a life in my human world too.

In this life, I’m the human resources manager in a small but advancing cosmetic company in my state. It has always been my dream to work here and sincerely I wasn’t going to give up on it. I have few allies in this small society ; Jeremy, who’s the administration officer here, Jacob, my ex-lover who happens to be the marketing manager and Laura my best friend and Personal assistance to Jacob.

This was my own small pack, where no one is the alpha or Omega. We just accept our part in each other’s lives.

“And there’s the girl who has been having steamy nights with a stranger she helped!” Laura screamed as she walked into my office.

“Jeez. Laura, quite shouting.” I silently yelled at her.

She waved her hands and sat in the chair. “Oh please, it’s not like this isn’t soundproof.”

I rolled my eyes. “ Doesn’t matter. Don’t just yell such things aloud.”

“ Come on. You are having a wonderful time all night. I need to be glad about it.” Laura said with a sly smile.

I shook my head and focused back on my work. I didn’t tell her about Noah’s real identity though, but I told him about his situation but I made it look as though Noah owns a company and Marcus took over it by betraying him.

“You know, you can tell him to apply for a job than staying at your place all the time.” Laura said.

“ His brother is back.” I said to her. I also had told her that Noah’s brother was Missing and they couldn’t find him.

“His what?”

“His brother. He showed up last night when we went for an event at the museum.”

I said and carefully left out the ‘ we were attacked by werewolves’ part. The Supernatural world is just between me and Noah. He asked me to swear not to tell anyone.

“Hold on. I thought you told me he went missing. He then shows up at the museum yesterday? That’s not right Sophie.” She said with a frown.

I nodded. Same thing I have been thinking. “I asked him who was behind his disappearance, he said he doesn’t know.”

“ Did he explain what happen to him to his brother?”

I shook my head. “ He never mentioned his disappearance for once, instead planning on how they could hit Marcus back.”

“You have to be careful Laura and hey stop helping everyone. Sometimes ignore. It’s because you helped Noah and this whole mysterious events are coming out.” She said.

I laughed and nodded. “ I promise I won’t next time.”

“Alright. Let’s go before our lunch break is over.” She stood up and went to open the door while waiting for me to grab my things and join her.

Laura was right. Something wasn’t right about the disappearance and appearance of Noah’s lost brother. I needed to get the main story and I need to do it without Noah or his brother knowledge. Even as I thought about it, I felt a little scared that it might not end well. Whatever I’m looking for won’t be a good one.

“So, where are we eating today? Please don’t say Sonia’s. I’m tired, I need something new.” Laura said as we stepped outside the company.

“Don’t be a baby. Nothing is wrong with Sonia’s but I will accept whatever suggestions you bring.” I said with a smile as I opened my car.
