#Chapter17I flopped backwards on the bed, sucking in a large breath of relief; that moment between us was fucking intense, all of it. What came over me? It was like he was a drug, something I couldn’t get enough of, a high that I wanted to last forever. I wanted Cain to devour me, dominate me, and so much more. Maybe, just maybe, he is my mate?I shook my head of my torturous thoughts, got up from the bed and walked over to the balcony. The door was no longer locked; I didn’t even see him unlock it. Opening the doors, a calming summer night breeze blew throughout the room. I was about to step out onto the balcony when I heard a noise, like someone moving around below the balcony. I stood there listening and looking around. I couldn’t see anyone, but the sound was growing stronger. I kept looking around and listening; just as I was about to step outside to investigate further, suddenly, a large man stood before me. He was much taller than I, not overly bulky, but appeared to be w
#Chapter18I woke in a panic, covered in sweat, my heart pounding and unable to catch my breath. I closed my eyes to calm myself, taking slow, deep breaths. After a moment, I began to feel calm and relaxed.I opened my eyes and looked around, realizing I was in what looked like a hospital bed. Machines and other medical equipment surrounded me. I could hear people talking just outside the room; one of the voices sounded like Cain, another sounded like Calyx and the third voice I didn’t recognize. I attempted to sit up, but upon doing so, my head throbbed. I placed my hand to my head, cradling it, and that’s when I felt the large bandage wrapped around my head. The concern over the dressing quickly faded as my head throbbed painfully again. This headache was worse than a hangover. I sat back down and listened to the voices nearby.“She will be fine, Alpha. It’s a nasty bump, but no real damage or anything serious. She will make a full recovery.” A woman’s voice explained. “Good,
#Chapter19It had been a while since Cain had stormed off, leaving me here with my thoughts. Then, finally, I heard footsteps approaching my room. I sat up in my bed, anticipating who it was when the door handle jiggled and in walked Calyx. He had a cheeky smile plastered across his face. “What the hell did you do?” “Whatever do you mean, Calyx?” I smiled and batted my lashes, pretending to be innocent. He raised a brow. “You have seriously pissed him off about something; he came stomping out of here in a huff. He ordered me to guard you and then went into his office. He slammed the door so hard, the wood cracked.”I snorted. “I didn’t do a thing; maybe your brother just has something stuck up his ass.” The man just constantly came off as being uptight anyways. Calyx closed his eyes and shook his head at me. “Right. Anyways, I’m your new tail.” He burst out laughing. My smile died, and I gave him a deadpan stare “No, just no Calyx, bad pun.” I shook my head at his horrible
#Chapter20I ran a hand down the back of my head. “Sorry about that,” I said shamefully. He looked everywhere but at me. “It’s alright. Are you ok?”I nodded my head. “Oh yes, I am fine. Thank you.” I gave him a small smile. The way he had looked at me a moment ago made me feel a bit uncomfortable in his presence now. Calyx gave me a curt nod. “Good, what had you so distracted?” He asked curiously.“The paintings on the walls. Some of them are very beautiful.” I said honestly; they were colourful and filled with so much detail; it was like they told a story. Calyx looked around at the paintings, but one in particular, he seemed to focus on the most “Yes, some of them are, and some…are dark and ugly.” He said in a cold tone. “True, but so are some people, and yet, they are still admired and cherished.” I pointed out to him, hoping he would catch onto who I was talking about. “Good point. Anyways, shall we continue to the kitchen?” Just as Calyx asked that question, my stom
#Chapter21His one hand rested on my hip while the other gripped the back of my neck, and he deepened the kiss. I moaned into his mouth, causing him to growl in satisfaction from my reaction. Cain began kissing my neck, slowly moving down; his soft lips hovered over the spot where he would mark me, he rubbed his nose along the area, ever so gently, and my wolf purred with excitement. Finally, Cain dragged the top of his canines along the spot, and that was when I realized what was going on; he was going to try and mark me! Like fuck I was going to let that happen! Cain was probably hoping that it would make me more compliant if he marked me. “Cain, stop it,” I shouted as I attempted to shove him away, but he just wrapped me in his arms and held me tightly to him and started licking the spot.“Cain, I said fucking stop!” I roared at him as I tried with all my might to free myself. He stilled and began groaning, “When are you going to come to terms with the fact that we are mates?”
#Chapter22I tried to shake off the uneasy feeling as I got dressed, it felt like I wasn’t alone, but there was no one in the bathroom with me. So I cautiously entered the bedroom and looked around the room, noticing that I was still alone. I felt relieved but also a little crazy. Am I starting to lose it?I walked over to the balcony doors, but they were locked, which ruined my plan of going outside and looking at the stars. So instead, I stared out the windows but couldn’t really see anything. I needed to get some sleep anyway, so I climbed into the bed and shut off the lights. I closed my eyes and tried to turn off my mind, but that was pointless, as the silence was daunting and caused my brain to race even more. I tossed and turned, trying my hardest to get to sleep. After some time, I finally got comfortable and started to feel very sleepy. But, just as I was about to doze off, I heard footsteps and voices outside the bedroom door.Being the nosy bitch I am, I quietly got out
#Chapter23I kept running as fast as my legs would take me, my lungs were burning, and the air was depleting from me. Finally, I stopped, needing to catch my breath. I looked around me and saw no one and heard nothing. Thinking I was safe for a few moments, I inspected my body, looking for cuts, bruises or anything. I had some bruising throughout my whole body, some cuts and scrapes here and there. But as my hands roamed my body, I felt two puncture marks on the lower part of my neck. It was hard to determine as I couldn’t see, but they felt like bite marks. Fuck! What the hell is going on. I stopped my inspection as I heard a branch snap to my right, then my left, I could hear shuffling within the trees, but I couldn’t see anything. “Who’s out there?” I shouted into the forest. No response, but whoever was there was getting closer to me.“I’m warning you! You are picking a fight with the wrong person.” My heart was thumping in my chest now.Still no response. However, I saw thos
#Chapter24I laughed, maybe a bit too much, causing him to scowl at me, which made me laugh even more. “Sorry, I don’t mean to laugh. Ok, maybe I did. But I think you’ve had too much to drink.”Cain wagged his finger at me. “No, I haven’t had enough to drink. You’ve had too much to drink.” His words were slurred, and his cheeks were flushed now. I pursed my lips and shook my head at him. “Yea, ok there, buddy, you keep telling yourself that. Maybe we should get back to bed.” I suggested. He pouted, “But I don’t want to.” Cain said in a child-like manner. I stood from my chair and walked towards him, taking his drink. “Well, too bad, you big baby. It’s time for night, nights.” Cain rolled his eyes. “Fine! Party pooper.” He said as he stuck his tongue out at me. I raised an eyebrow. “Really? You are so childish,” I said while shaking my head at the large man-baby before me. I had never seen this side of him, and to be honest, I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than the othe
