2. Her

I kicked my bare paws on the ground of the forest, running so swiftly. This pain was so unbearable. Rejecting me was painful but marking her in front of me made me loose my senses. I didn’t even know where my wolf was taking me. I just wanted to go away from the hurt. But, as I went further, it even hurt the more.

My wolf halted directly at the front of something ahead. It was a water; somewhere I had never seen before since birth. I had never come out and went this far. Guess rejection did so many things. My paws walked forward, looking inside the water. A white wolf reflected back to me. Through the water, I noticed the change in the color of my eyes.

They were reddish.

Red signified a wolf’s anger and I had it now because I was angry with my mate. I was angry with the world I lived in for misunderstanding me.

My wolf howled loudly with so much pain. I felt so damn hurt at the rejection of Beta Devin. He didn’t even give his mate a chance to explain herself. Instead, he rejected me and even went ahead marking the Queen Bee of our pack in front of me.

Cursed, I felt so cursed.

Of all people, why did it have to be me?

A sudden flatter sound from the water caught my attention. I watched as something moved on the surface to my direction. I saw a tail spring out and I let out a howl. Out of fear, I shifted back to human form and hid behind a tree.

I peeked to see what it was. I didn’t see anything there. I looked around the water only to sight the tale flapping again. I immediately picked a stick in reflex.

Coming out from behind the tree, I directed the stick towards the water.

“Who are you? Show yourself,” I said to the unknown person. My gaze directed up as a girl came out of the water. She was angelic looking and very beautiful. She also looked about 17 years old.

II was about to ask her what she was doing in when I noticed the lower part of her body.

Indeed, she had a fish's tail.

She was a mermaid!

“H-How i-is this possible? Mermaids don’t exist…” I said to myself but she heard me.

“Off course we do, we don’t just come to the surface for the fear of what humans would do.” She said, happily.

“W-What is your name? I'm Celeste.” I told her, trying to smile even after everything that happened earlier. She looked at me surprisingly before replying.

“You’re different from the rest up. Thanks for being so friendly to me,” She said.

“You’re welcome, and your name?” I asked her.

“I’m Maliah.” She said, flapping her tail forward to meet up with me. I sat beside a piece of rock, just beside her.

“It’s nice meeting you, Maliah.” I told her, staring at her in amazement. I couldn’t still believe my eyes.

“You too, Celeste. May I ask you something?” she asked.

“Off course, you can.” I replied her. My entire body was heated and becoming really dizzy.

“Why were you crying in your wolf form?” Maliah asked me.

“I got rejected by my mate.” I said, looking down.

“That really sucks! He's such a loser.” Maliah said.

“Wait, you know about werewolves rejection?” I asked, arching a brow at her in confusion.

“Yes, I do. There are legendary books back in my kingdom about you all. I've always fascinated the whole mating stuff,” she said, dreamily. When she noticed that I wasn’t smiling, I heard her mutter an 'oops' sound.

“I’m sorry your mate rejected you, Celeste. May I ask why he did?” she asked, looking sorry for me.

I immediately narrated the whole incident to her. And, of how they thought I killed my father and how I was denounced as an Omega. I told her how I was bullied in the pack. Next, how my mate rejected me and marked the Queen Bee directly in front of me.

Then I began crying again, unable to keep the pain inside. It was all too much for me to bare. I had to let it all out.

I felt her hands come forward to my face, wiping my tears.

“I really think you shouldn’t be wasting your tears on that idiot. He shouldn’t have even been your mate in the first place.” She said.

I smiled weakly at her, knowing she was trying to cheer me up. I in fact felt so miserable at everything.

Moon Goddess help me, will I be able to ever get out of this trauma?

“Thank you, so much.” I appreciated. We talked for a really long while. About our favorite things and places we would love to be. I felt really compatible with Maliah because we shared the same common interests.

It was until the sky began to darken I knew I had to go back home.

“My step mom's going to be so angry.

I have to go back now,” I told her.

“Bye, I hope you come again, friend.” She said, giving me a wink.

“Yeah, bye.”

I immediately shifted into my wolf and started running so fast. I needed to be back at the pack before dawn that was why. And, I was also so hungry.

Mother had banned me from eating anything today because she thought the unwashed laundry was all my fault. I had washed it all and had no idea who added to the clothes.

Thus, the moment I came back home, I went back to my room. My room was less spacious. It was a small cellar with lack of light.

Ever since my dad died, I’ve had to live the miserable life of an Omega.
