MasukLove is unpredictable, and often comes when we least expect it. Love can be felt for any number of reasons, and it’s those unexpected qualities that make someone stand out from the crowd. But what if that someone can’t be your mate, and loving her is against the rule? Would you still go for her and follow the whisper of your heart, or forget her and embrace your responsibility?

She was studying at Wilford University, a prestigious and renowned school where only the rich and famous could gain admission. She didn’t belong there. Her mother was a maid, and she had been serving the Alfonzos for ten years. She wanted to be annoyed. Not a single tricycle passed by when she was in a hurry, and the sky was starting to darken. Her frown deepened when a black car sped past her from behind. Mud almost splashed on her uniform. It was Beatriz’s car, the only daughter of the Alfonzo couple. The couple was kind, but Beatriz was the opposite. She was incredibly snobbish and arrogant. MAXINE immediately went to the restroom upon reaching Wilford. She carefully looked at her reflection in the mirror. She shook her head. She was just entering the university, but she looked like she was already going home. She wasn’t a rich kid who was chauffeured to school in fancy cars. So before she reached the university, she was already exhausted. After retouching her makeup, she walked out of the restroom when two girls deliberately bumped into her. She dropped her books. She immediately bent down to pick them up. “Sorry,” said one girl, her voice obviously insincere. “I didn’t see you.” “Served right,” said the other girl, laughing. She chose not to fight back and just continued what she was doing. She was used to it. This had been her life since she started attending Wilford. But she had no choice but to endure it. She didn’t want to waste the opportunity given to her by the Alfonzo couple. In fact, she was graduating this year with a degree in BHRM. THE first class was over. And since Maxine’s next subject was at two o’clock in the afternoon, she decided to go home first. As she always did, she walked to the station. It was walking distance from the school, so she patiently walked there every day. Soon, it started to drizzle. She ran. Thankfully, she reached the bus stop before the rain poured heavily. She took out a handkerchief from her bag to wipe the raindrops off her face when the wind suddenly snatched it away. She quickly took a step to catch the handkerchief, but a motorcycle sped towards her direction. She managed to dodge it but lost her balance. She let out a sharp scream before falling. She also saw the motorcycle rider fall and spin. She tried to get up. She knew the motorcycle rider was more hurt. “Hey, are you okay?!” she asked in a loud voice as she slowly approached him. He was wearing a helmet so she couldn’t see his face. She helped the motorcycle rider get up until he could sit down. “Are you okay?” she asked again. But she didn’t expect her reaction when he took off his helmet. There were many handsome guys in Wilford, but the man in front of her seemed extraordinary; his eyebrows were moderately thick, his nose was sharp, his lips were rosy, and his slightly slanted gray eyes added to his charm. How could such a handsome creature exist in Sta. Monica? He must be a stranger, she thought. “Are you stupid?!” the man shouted, bringing her back to her senses. His eyebrows were furrowed as he stared at her. “You’re just gonna cross without looking if there is a vehicle or not?!” Her admiration for the man seemed to vanish like a bubble. Her ears buzzed and she let out a breath. He called her stupid. “W-what did you say?” she asked incredulously. “Hey, Mister, I got hurt too, you know! And look at my uniform, it’s dirty! Who’s the one driving fast like they own the road!” The man just raised an eyebrow, a seemingly irritated smile playing on his lips. It was weird, but he seemed even more handsome when he was angry. “And now it’s my fault. Do you have any idea how much my Harley Davidson is? Even if you work the entire part of your life, you cannot pay for this!” She discreetly looked at the motorcycle. She swallowed nervously when she saw that the left side mirror was broken. She didn’t know the brand of the motorcycle, but based on its class, it looked expensive. The man suddenly stood up and walked towards the motorcycle, so she looked up at him. He was tall. He must be a basketball player. After a while, the man started the motorcycle and sped away. She was about to protest, but he was quickly out of sight. In anger, she stomped her foot on the road and followed the path the man took with teary eyes. Maybe he was also studying at Wilford, he was so arrogant! She muttered to herself. MAXINE’S nose was about to smoke with anger when she got home to the mansion. Perlita was surprised to see her daughter’s appearance, although she didn’t ask any questions, and Maxine didn’t want to talk about it. She went straight to the maid’s quarters and took a bath. MAXINE first went to the vegetable section. Her class was in the afternoon, so she volunteered to go grocery shopping instead of her mother, Perlita. She checked the list again before starting to choose. She was about to grab a whole cabbage when she felt someone’s hand on hers. She automatically turned to her side only to have her eyes pop out. “You?!”A warm smile appeared on Lucas’s lips as he looked at Maxine’s face. He never expected her to kiss him. He knew it meant nothing to her, but somehow, it had a different effect on him. And for heaven’s sake, it was only a kiss on the cheek. He couldn’t understand why he was feeling this way. Perhaps he was just exaggerating? Driven by an inexplicable desire, he slowly leaned down and quickly kissed Maxine. “You’re welcome,” he whispered. With her cheeks turning red, Maxine immediately looked away and shifted her gaze back to the sky. She suddenly became uncomfortable, which only made Lucas smile again. Her innocence had always been amusing. “My name is Noa, your poor servant, Your Highness.” Lucas frowned. So this man is my grandfather’s lackey. He didn’t need anyone to watch over him. He was capable of protecting himself. “I was there the night Alfred attacked you. And I saw with my own eyes how much you cared about that woman,” Noa continued, probably noticing that
A gentle shake on Maxine’s shoulders woke her up.Still half-asleep, she slowly opened her eyes and only then realized they were already in front of the mansion. She had slept through the entire ride without noticing. She quickly composed herself before getting out of the car.“Have we been here long?” she asked Hevo as she unbuckled her seatbelt.“Kind of,” he replied.Maxine frowned slightly and looked at him. If that was the case, why didn’t he wake her up?“You were sleeping so soundly, I just let you be,” Hevo explained.Maxine glanced at her watch, and her eyes widened in shock at the time.Good heavens—it was already eleven in the evening.“Oh no. You should’ve woken me up,” she said in a panic. “Bye, Hevo. Thanks for the ride!”She quickly got out of the car and hurried toward the gate. She no longer heard whether Hevo responded, as she was rushing too much. Her mother might start thinking all sorts of things again, especially since she had been coming home late more often lat
“F*CK!”The curse escaped Lucas’s lips as he abruptly stepped away from his big bike. His hands tightened into fists as frustration and worry consumed him. Instead of heading toward the university exit, he turned back and walked across the school grounds, his destination clear—the COM Department. He could not calm himself. The thought of Maxine being with Hevo was enough to make his chest tighten with an emotion he had no right to feel.Fear.He knew Maxine liked Hevo. He also knew that Hevo felt the same way about her. The realization alone was enough to stir something unpleasant inside him.Jealousy.D*mn it.Once again, he found himself acting like a jealous boyfriend when he had no claim over her. He had no right to feel this way. He knew the rules.CANIS belonged to CANIS.That was the law they lived by.But how could he stop himself? He might have been a wolf, but he was still capable of feeling. Just like humans and every other living creature, he had a heart—a heart that he co
TO be honest, if the food placed in front of Maxine had already been cooked, she probably would not have hesitated to eat it. But the ingredients served on the table were still raw.Despite the beautiful presentation and the tempting appearance created by the variety of ingredients arranged before her, it still failed to appeal to her taste.“Are you ready for our date later?” Lucas asked.Maxine could not stop herself from letting out a quiet sigh. That was yet another problem occupying her thoughts. She did not have a proper dress. She did not even have the slightest idea where Lucas planned to take her.“I’ll pick you up later,” Lucas reminded her.She had no choice but to silently accept it.Whatever happened later, she would just have to face it.After eating, they immediately headed to the university. Maxine finished the meal Lucas ordered for her, but she could not honestly say she enjoyed it. She barely chewed every bite, swallowing almost immediately as her mind remained else
LUCAS watched Maxine’s hand intently. This was the second time he felt this way. He shook his head and looked back at Maxine. He didn’t know what was happening, but his body reacted strongly whenever their hands touched. He hadn’t even thought about what he had said earlier.“I’ll take you home aft
AFTER a ten-minutes break, Maxine and the other students had to return to the hall, where they all gathered. “Okay participants, fall in line by course,” Miss Gillany announced. Everyone followed. “Sit on the ground,” she instructed. The students lined up and sat on the green grass. “Maxine, look
LUCAS gently tapped the cheek of the woman in front of him. He hadn’t meant to scare her earlier, he was just amused by her reaction. He knows he’s different, but despite that, he still has principles, and one of those principles is that he doesn’t eat human flesh. This is also why his parents were
THE day of Maxine’s camp finally arrived. Since the College of Management (COM) is composed of four courses, a bus for each course was used to transport them to the location, one of the most prestigious mountains in Sta. Monica where the camp would be held. “Wow!” Maxine exclaimed in awe as she gaz
