Love is unpredictable, and often comes when we least expect it. Love can be felt for any number of reasons, and it’s those unexpected qualities that make someone stand out from the crowd. But what if that someone can’t be your mate, and loving her is against the rule? Would you still go for her and follow the whisper of your heart, or forget her and embrace your responsibility?
view moreMAXINE is walking down the muddy road to the other village. That’s where she attends, Wilford University, a school for the rich, and she doesn’t belong there.
Her mother was a maid, and she had been serving the Alfonzos for ten years. The couple is nice. In fact, they are the ones who send her to school, and in return she helps with the household chores. She looked at the wristwatch she was wearing. It was eight o’clock, so she sped up her steps even more. Her first subject is at nine o’clock, and she can’t be late. Annoying! She grumbled in her mind. Not even a single tricycle passed by when she was in a hurry, adding to that, the darkening of the sky. Her face crumpled when a black car pulled up behind her. Her uniform was almost covered in mud. That car belonged to Miss Beatriz, the only daughter of the Alfonzo couple. As nice as the couple is, Miss Beatriz is the opposite. The woman is filled with curses and a core of pride. MAXINE went to the restroom immediately when she got to the university. She needs a little face retouch. For sure, she’s just coming in, but she looks like she’s already on her way home. She shook her head at the thought. She is nothing compared to the students who attend Wilford. But if looks are the only basis, she also has something to brag about. She is often mistaken for having foreign blood. But because she doesn’t have a body image, others don’t appreciate her beauty. After getting ready, she fixed herself and left the restroom. But before she even reached the door, she saw two women enter. She stepped aside to make way. But because of the literally rough behavior of the students attending such a university, they bumped into her. She let go of the books. She immediately bent down to pick them up. “Sorry,” said a woman who was obviously not sincere when saying that. “I didn’t see you.” “Served right,” said another woman, followed by laughter. She is used to it. This is how her life has been since she entered Wilford. If she was the only one to follow, she would have moved to another school. The students who come here are proud and arrogant. Even so, she had to endure for her mother. She wants to give her a good life. Fortunately, she is graduating this year on the ‘hotel management’ course. MAXINE finished her first class. And because her next subject was at 2:00 in the afternoon, she decided to go home first. Also, she prefers to save her mother’s pocket money rather than spend it at a canteen. As she always did, she walked to the bus stop. It’s only walking distance from the school, so she patiently walks it every day. She ran when it started to mist. Fortunately, she reached the waiting area before the downpour got stronger. She grabbed a handkerchief from the bag to wipe the few drops of rain from her face when the wind accidentally blew it away. She quickly stepped to reach the handkerchief but at the same time as she stepped, a motorcycle whizzed by. She immediately dodged but with the shock she lost her balance. Her scream echoed as she fell. She also saw the fall of the motorcyclist and his spinning. She forced herself to stand up to help. She knew that the rider of the motorcycle was hurt more. “Are you okay?!” she asked loudly and tried to approach the man. He was wearing a helmet so she couldn’t see his face. She helped him up until he sat down. “Are you okay?” she asked again. But when the man finally took off his helmet, she was stunned for a moment; medium-thick eyebrows, pointed nose, ruddy lips, and added to that, his rather narrow gray eyes. How could there be such a handsome creature here in Sta. Monica? She said in her mind. There are many handsome men in Wilford, but the man she is facing now seems to have something out of the ordinary. And she seemed to be insecure about the smoothness of his face. “Are you stupid?!” shouted the man. She returned to her senses. His eyebrows met while staring at her. “Are you just crossing without even looking if there are vehicles or none?!” Her admiration for the person in front of her immediately disappeared like a bubble. Her ears tingled as she heaved a sigh. He called her a fool. “W-what are you?” she asked in disbelief. “Hey Mister, can’t you see I’m hurt too?! And then look at my uniform, it’s dirty! Who could drive so fast that you thought it was your way!” The man’s eyebrows arched, an irritated smile flashed across his lips. Weird, but she finds him that cute. “And now it’s my fault. Do you have any idea how much my Harley-Davidson is?! Even if you work all your life, you won’t be able to pay for that!” Her eyes flew to the motorcycle. She secretly swallowed when she saw that the left side mirror was broken. She didn’t know the brand of the motorcycle, but based on its class, it looked expensive. She seemed to catch a glimpse when the man stood up and went at the fallen motorcycle. A few moments later, the man started the motor and drove away without a word. She was about to protest, but he quickly disappeared from her sight. Annoyed, she stomped on the road and cried as she followed the path he took. __ MAXINES’S face could not be painted when Perlita opened the gate. “My GOD, Maxine! What happened!?” asked her mother. “Nothing, ‘Mom. I’ll go shower first,” she replied evasively, and immediately went straight to the maid’s quarters after entering the mansion. She even heard her mother calling her, but she didn’t bother to turn around. She also doesn’t want to talk. BECAUSE Mrs. Alfonzo had an important appointment, so Simon, the family driver, was not around. Maxine had just commuted to the supermarket. It’s one of the things she does when she’s free and doesn’t have school. She headed to the vegetable section. She looked over the list her mother had made before starting to pick. She was about to take a whole cabbage from the hand of the one she caught. She automatically turned to its owner only to have her eyes widen. “You?!”“I don’t want to see him,” Lucas said sadly in a low voice. He couldn’t hide his emotions.A moment later, he felt Maxine’s presence next to him.“Are you okay?”He didn’t move. He just stared up with his eyes closed. He felt the corner of his eyes heat up. The past flowed through his mind again.“Do it, Fernan!” his Grandfather commanded his Uncle, his voice booming. The Grandfather sat on a silver throne at the front, surrounded by four other elders. Below, in the hall, people lined up on either side, dressed in long black robes that reached their ankles. Their faces were covered, only their mouths visible, like grim reapers. In the middle stood his Uncle Fernan, fear and anxiety etched on his face. Behind him, a woman, about the same age as his mother, was bound hand and foot, trembling and crying hopelessly. He had no Idea what was happening.“I can’t, Dad! Just let her go. She has nothing to do with this! It was all my fault! I was the one who betrayed Ella…!”He gripped the door
IT was exactly two fifteen when Maxine decided to spend some time in their room. She felt like a fool at the park earlier. Hevo left her. She knew Beatriz was just acting.“I don’t have any change for that.”She looked up. Meghan was the new arrival.“You’re early,” she commented. Their first subject this afternoon was at two thirty.“You are too,” Meghan said and sat down. “What’s bothering you..?”Maxine shrugged in response.“I saw your Hevo in the lobby, by the way,” Meghan said a while later.“So?”“She’s with another girl.”Maxine scoffed. “I don’t own him.”“But isn’t he into you?” Meghan asked with a furrowed brow. “He seems interested in you. Then suddenly---wow, it’s so unclear!”Maxine chuckled wryly. Meghan didn’t know. She didn’t have any feelings for Hevo. She was just happy because it was the first time someone confessed a feelings to her.“Uhm, wait. I have something to show you,” Meghan exclaimed and took something out of her bag, a magazine. Maxine curiously looked
LUCAS watched Maxine’s hand intently. This was the second time he felt this way. He shook his head and looked back at Maxine. He didn’t know what was happening, but his body reacted strongly whenever their hands touched. He hadn’t even thought about what he had said earlier.“I’ll take you home after your class,” he said. She seemed to be enjoying her food. She didn’t even bother to look up at him.“No.”He frowned. “Why not?”“My mom might freak out if she sees me with another guy again.”“I’ll take you home,” he said firmly, crossing his arms. He didn’t like the idea of her bringing someone else to her house. “And I’m not asking your permission anyway.”She suddenly looked up. “You’re so persistent.”“Have you forgotten? I’m your Highness, and you’re my servant. Whatever I say will be followed.”“Whatever!” she said sarcastically, taking a huge bite of meat.He watched Maxine with admiration. She wasn’t pretentious.“Why?” She stopped chewing and looked at him with a furrowed brow.
MAXINE was going crazy trying to figure out how she would pay Lucas. Why did he have to demand payment now? If she had known, she wouldn’t have accepted his ride. Her thoughts were interrupted when something hit her shoulder. She frowned and looked at Meghan. She was always throwing paper at her.“What?” Maxine asked, her brow furrowed.Meghan didn’t answer, but just pouted and pointed. Maxine followed her gaze.“M-ma’am..!” Maxine panicked and stood up. Miss Gillany was standing in front of her, arms crossed, staring. She wasn’t angry.“My God, where have you been? You seem out of your mind, Miss Filmore?”Her classmates laughed. What else was new? They always did that.“Ahm..”“Never mind. Just give an example of a business establishment and draw its blueprint on the board.”Maxine secretly bit her lower lip. She hadn’t been paying attention. What was she supposed to draw? It would be easier if it was just a simple hut.“M-ma’am..,” She scratched her head. “I don’t know.”Her classm
Still, Lucas’s POV“HEY...! Wait Lucas!” I heard Lourine call.I took big steps towards the parking lot where Lourine’s car was parked.“What’s wrong with you?”I know Lourine is worried.“Lucas..!” She called again without me turning.“What?!” I asked her almost yelling.Lourine was stunned. She seemed to be shocked by what I acted.“I’m sorry,” I apologized. I even sympathized Lourine in my anger. “I’m just tired, Lourine. Get on the car, we’re going home,” I added and got in the car. She followed silently.I don’t even know why I’m acting like this. All I know is, I’m disgusted. Weird.“What was that?” After that, Lourine was upset again. I didn’t move, I just focused on driving. “That girl earlier, it’s her, isn’t she?”I still didn’t speak. What would I say anyway?“You’re jealous, I knew it.”I looked at Lourine in disbelief. Where did she get that idea from?!“You say what?” I frowned upon asking her.Me? Jealous?! And why on earth would I be?!“You were so transparent baby bro
Lucas’s POVI FELL down on my bed, staring up at the ceiling of my room. I just came back from where I accompanied HER yesterday, and I felt a little bit upset that I didn’t understand why I couldn’t find anyone there. Jez, what’s wrong with me? I shouldn’t see her anymore, because I know it won’t do anything good. But d*mn, I started to get this feeling that makes me want to see HER face again.I heaved a sigh. This can’t be. I am just comforting him. That’s right.I sat up, shaking my head as I heard Lourine’s voice outside my room.“Baby brother are you in?”I stood up and headed for the door.“What do you want?” I asked Lourine when I opened it.And as usual, a smile plastered on her face as she always does every time she has a favor to ask.“Accompany me. I want to go shopping.”I knew it.“Again? You can’t even wear your other clothes. Will you buy again? Do you intend to turn your room into a boutique?”Why are women so actious? I do not understand.“Come on, baby brother. I wa
Author’s POVCOM’s management camp was a success. The students and some Instructors are currently returning from the camp.“Hey, just wondering, where did you go yesterday?” Meghan. As usual, she and Maxine are next to each other again. “I did go for a walk. How many times did you ask that yesterday?” said Maxine. She didn’t bother to glance at her.“Ha! You’re hiding something, I knew it,” Meghan said unconvinced.“You’re just overthinking.” Maxine leaned back in the chair and decided to take a nap.“No---.”“Shhh! I’m going to sleep,” She interrupted by what Meghan going to say.“I hate you,” Meghan simply said, rolling her eyes.“The feeling is mutual.” She joked. Even she herself thought about the guy who saved her. He seems to be mysterious.Their first meeting with the young man had not gone well. She immediately judged him because of the arrogance he showed. But with what he did to save her yesterday, there is no denying that he has a good heart despite his brusqueness and a
Maxine’s POV“PARTICIPANTS, no one will leave the tent. Everyone go to bed because we have a lot of activities tomorrow,” said the voice from the megaphone, Miss Gillany. It's past seven O’clock in the evening so it’s forbidden to leave the tent. Meghan and I were both covered in blankets because of the cold. I was wearing a dress with long sleeves but I could still feel the cold biting my body.“Maxine,” Meghan said in a low voice. I have my back her. The surroundings are too quiet, only the chirping of birds and various kinds of insects can be heard.“Hmmm,” I grunted in response. I closed my eyes.“Is what Ma’am said true?” She is referring to what Miss Macalisang said earlier.I didn’t bother to look at Meghan. I stayed back. I’m sleepy.“Maybe.”I jumped in shock when she suddenly squeezed behind me.“Couldn’t there be something here, right?” She asked again in a whisper. She is too exaggerated. Didn’t she hear what Ma’am said? In Europe.“There is nothing like that here. And the
FORBIDDEN LOVECHAPTER 7Still, Maxine’s POVAFTER the ten minutes break we had to go back to the hall. This serves as the place where we all gather.“Okay participants, fall in line by course,” announced Miss Gillany. Everyone followed.“Sit on the ground,” She ordered again. We sat in rows on the green ground.“Maxine, look,” Meghan whispered from behind me. She’s sitting next to me.I followed her snort and caught Hevo looking in our direction. They are the first line since they are the higher degree and we are the next line. She smiled a little shyly and simply waved.“I think he likes you,” Meghan teased.I shook my head. “Nah, he’s not. He’s just nice to me..”“I don’t think so.” She shrugged her shoulders. “I’ll bet.”“It’s up to you,” I just shook my head.We adjusted our seats when the mic echoed.“Good morning students!” greeted by the newly arrived Instructor. “I will be your first speaker for this morning. By the way, I am Belsie Macalisang but you can call me, Ma’am Bellz
