PREPARATIONS

“Mum?” Caine looked sleepy, hurrying down the stairs in alarm.

I was chuckling lowly

“What’s the matter”, he had only sweats on and his hair was disheveled coupled with red, sleepy eyes.

“Oh my God, baby” she passed the basket she held to me and walked, sniffing, to hug Caine.

Tears were starting to drop from her eyes.

After she finished hugging Caine, she turned towards me, collected the basket from me and passed it to David.

“Congratulations, honey. I’m so happy for you”, she said, sobbing on my shoulder.

“Thank you” I said, patting her back while I looked at a smiling David and Caine looking on at the drama in disbelief.

She pulled back and kissed me on the cheek.

“Thank you, I don’t even know why I’m….” She broke out in sobs again and pulled me in for another hug.

“Aw hell” Caine muttered

David made a “shut up” motion with his fingers to Caine, and he did just that.
