Chapter 2

"Are you certain you want to make such an extreme choice?" Sebastian asked one last time. He wanted to see if Whitney would show any signs of reluctance.

Unfortunately, he did not detect even a trace of hesitation in Whitney's expression.

"We're not right for each other. Let's just go in and finalize the divorce. I'll do my best to meet all of your demands. Even after we've gotten divorced, we can still remain friends," Whitney bit her lip and offered after thinking about it.

They could remain friends, huh?

Sebastian laughed at Whitney's response. Tears trickled out of the corner of his eyes.

It turned out that despite being married for three years, the relationship had been entirely one-sided. He was the presumptuous one.

In her eyes, he was merely a stepping stone.

"Fine. I'll go through with the divorce! I don't need your money, the car, or the house. I can support myself!" Sebastian stubbornly declared.

"You're going to support yourself with that little shop of yours where you sell protective charms and do fortune-telling and geomancy readings?" Whitney scoffed in derision before heading into the courthouse.

Sebastian's actions in the past year made Whitney think he had turned into a shameless degenerate.

He had opened a shop where he told fortunes. He even tricked people into buying the protective charms he made, claiming that the charms could help his clients avoid bad luck and disaster.

It was all nonsense!

That was the reason why Whitney wanted to divorce Sebastian.

He had become a superstitious, irrational, and ridiculous person.

It was easy enough to complete the final step of the divorce proceedings.

In less than ten minutes, they got their divorce certificate.

After walking out of the courthouse, Sebastian stared at the divorce certificate in his hands and chuckled bitterly.

He never expected his marriage to come to an end just like that after three years.

Sebastian paused briefly in thought before letting out a mirthless laugh. He stared at Whitney and asked, "What's the most important thing to you?"

With determined eyes, Whitney declared, "I want Frostwave Corporation to shine at the medical conference the Griffin family in Janover is hosting. I want us to become one of the top three pharmaceutical companies in the country!"

Sebastian chuckled and said mockingly, "It's impossible for us to be friends, Ms. Sutton. Best of luck to you. I hope your dream comes true."

"Thank you," Whitney said before getting into her car and driving off.

Even the purr of her engine, as she accelerated, seemed to convey her scorn for Sebastian.

Soon after, the red Mercedes-Benz came to a stop.

Clutching the steering wheel, Whitney let out a long exhale.

"Did I go too far, Mabel?" Whitney asked. Her slightly reddened eyes were filled with a complicated gaze.

Though she had gotten a divorce, she did not feel happy about it at all.

Her secretary, Mabel Lucero, firmly responded, "You didn't do anything wrong, Ms. Sutton! Sebastian isn't good enough for you anymore. If you keep him around, he'll only be a hindrance to you.

"Your goal is to expand Frostwave Corporation nationwide! You can't let your personal feelings get in the way of that."

After hearing that, Whitney smiled ruefully and muttered, "But, I keep getting the feeling that I've lost something extremely important to me."

"That's normal. You just got a divorce," Mabel explained.

Whitney took a deep breath. Soon, she regained her composure and looked like her usual stoic self again. Spotting the ring that was still on her finger, she took it off and said, "Since the divorce has been finalized, I need to return this to him."

She turned the car around.

Back outside the courthouse, Sebastian continued to stand there with a gloomy expression.

A big shot involved in the arms trade quickly stepped out of the crowd and came forward with his tall and poised daughter.

"It's just a divorce, Mr. Ballard," he said. "My daughter is willing to marry you. She's a business tycoon in Cuzaco!"

"Scram!" Sebastian snarled. "Get out of here, all of you!"

"Yes, of course …"

The crowd of powerful figures jumped in fright and scampered off.

Sebastian returned to his shop.

Meanwhile, Whitney had also come over to return the ring to him. She had just gotten out of the car when a red Ferrari shot down the street and stopped outside the shop.

At the very next moment, the car door opened, and a pair of stockinged legs appeared.

It was followed by its owner, a young woman with a remarkable bearing. She wore a black minidress that accentuated her voluptuous curves.

The young woman rushed out of the car.

She looked to be in her early 20s. Her smooth skin, exquisite features, and flawless figure all contributed to her air of sophistication.

It would not be an exaggeration to call her a goddess.

"She's gorgeous …"

Even Whitney could not help but exclaim in awe over the young woman's appearance.

Then, she saw the young woman running up to Sebastian and crying out frantically, "Dr. Ballard! Please save my grandfather! I'm begging you, please! As long as you help him regain consciousness, I'm willing to marry you!"
