I hadn't bought a ticket back to Jenton because Serovia was where I was headed.

After taking over Fletcher Group, my biggest goal was to break into the retail market, and the land on the west side of the city was the ideal location.

Damien had recommended a mentor to me—a close friend of his father's. According to him, a single meal with the man would teach me a lot.

Henry Miller and I hit it off immediately. During dinner, he helped me work through many of the questions that had been occupying my mind.

He seemed to like me and suggested that I stay in Serovia and spend six months learning at his company.

Mr. Miller was convinced that after six months, I'd be able to break into the retail market successfully and make a name for myself.

The opportunity had been handed to me on a silver platter, so I had no reason to turn it down.

After dinner and before I dropped Mr. Miller off, call after call from Roxanne started coming in.

Annoyed, I declined the calls again and again until Mr. Miller finally asked, "Do you need to let your family know you're in Serovia?"

He must have noticed the affectionate nickname I'd saved under Roxanne's contact.

I shook my head and replied, "She's not family anymore. I've decided to file for divorce."

It wasn't until I had dropped Mr. Miller off that I called Roxanne back.

As soon as the call connected, she snapped, "Louis Fletcher! What exactly is going on? Why did our business partners tell me they'll only discuss the deals with you in person?

"What on earth happened? I've been in charge of everything in the company for years! Do you have any idea how important tonight's deal is to me?"

I couldn't help but chuckle at her familiar, commanding tone. "So what?"

The words had barely left my mouth when Conrad's voice came through the line. "Roxanne, you have to help me with this. You're the only one I have left."

"Don't worry," Roxanne said softly, reassuring him. "I've got everything under control."

Hatred surged through me at once. I clenched my fists and slammed them twice against the steering wheel.

Roxanne had insisted that there was nothing between them. Yet, here she was, gently comforting him as if I weren't even there.

I didn't even know when she had started putting on that fake, affectionate act.

The thought of it made me sick. So, I ended the call coldly, then turned off my phone.
