I narrowed my eyes at Caspian. “How is that even going to help?”

Caspian’s grin widened like he’d been waiting for that question. “These cards have personal questions, things that’ll really get us to know each other better. And if someone doesn’t want to answer…” He twirled the deck between his fingers. “They’ll have to compensate by doing something… funny. Or ridiculous.” His smirk told me he was absolutely counting on the ridiculous part.

I crossed my arms. “Have you guys even played this before?”

All of them shook their heads.

“So why do you even have it? This feels way too convenient.”

Ryker cut in, waving me off. “Total coincidence. Don’t overthink it.”

I gave him a look. “Uh huh. Sure.”

I didn’t buy it one bit.

But whatever. I wasn’t going to push it.

Honestly? I wanted to know them better. I needed to.

We sat in a loose circle on the soft carpet, the tension slowly shifting. Caspian sat cross-legged, shuffling the deck.

“All right,” he said, sliding five cards towar

  • The Apex's hidden mate   The destination

Eliza’s POV Today is the day. The day we’re supposed to hand ourselves over to the Shadow Pack. The “agreement.” The neat little box we’re expected to step into and shut the lid tight over ourselves. Except, obviously, we’re not going to do that. If they think we’re just going to walk into their hands like sheep, then they’ve severely underestimated us. So instead, we have a different plan. A messy, layered, one-step-at-a-time kind of plan. First, we meet with Priscilla. That part makes my skin crawl, but strategic necessity doesn’t always come with pleasant company. Second, we figure out how to save the Apex brothers. One plan at a time. Like pulling pieces out of a trap without snapping it shut. Now here we are, having left Tyla’s parents’ bunker. Honestly, the place could survive a nuclear winter. And yes, I’ll admit—I liked the car we picked. Sleek, expensive-looking. Quiet engine. Almost like it belonged in a spy film. I sat in the passenger seat while Quin curled up in the

  • The Apex's hidden mate   Given up

Aria’s POV I still couldn't believe my eyes. No matter how many times the image replayed in front of me, my mind refused to accept it. The screen glitched, flickering, and suddenly shifted. My stomach clenched as a new horror unfolded. This time, it was Thane. His calm, nurturing face—the one I once thought could never harbor such cruelty—was twisted into something I couldn’t recognize. He stood over Quin, a knife in his hand, dragging the blade slowly across her skin. Her screams cut through me sharper than the steel ever could. “Stop!” I shouted, thrashing against the restraints, my voice hoarse with desperation. “Stop it, please!” But Thane didn’t stop. Instead, his voice came through the feed, low and merciless, each word like venom searing through me. “You’re weak, Quin. Overused. Someone with nothing left to give.” He sliced her again, and her body convulsed. Tears blurred my vision. “Stop!!, please stop.” But his tone only grew darker. “I know exactly what you are. M

  • The Apex's hidden mate   Broken completely

Aria’s POV Mr. X had ordered men to drag me out of that suffocating grey cell again, their rough hands the only human contact I’d had in days, aside from the tasteless scraps of food they tossed in like I was a stray dog. If he was bringing me out again, it wasn’t because he missed the sound of my voice. He had something up his sleeve. Something dangerous. Has he gotten to them? The thought punched the air from my lungs. My reckless, stubborn, infuriating mates. If he had them, if he’d cornered them the way he’d cornered me, then I was already halfway broken. I tried not to let my mind spiral, but fear clawed at me like fire under my skin. The room he dragged me into this time was different. They strapped me on a metal bed. My ankles and wrists locked tight, the chill of the steel seeping into my bones. And scattered across the tray beside me were things I didn’t dare name out loud. Instruments that screamed pain. My wolf had always been the vicious one between us—sharp-fanged,

  • The Apex's hidden mate   Worse than mine

Priscilla’s POV The position I find myself in is... undignified. Lying on my back, knees bent into my chest, gripping the outer edges of my feet while this scientist, Don, kneels between my legs and enters me from above. Moans spill from my lips, echoing off the walls of my room as he moves inside me. How did it come to this? After our collision in the hall, I couldn't shake the image of Selena's face staring back at me from that tablet. I had to know. I asked the scientist, whose name is Don, but he just wouldn't talk. Refused to give up the secrets that tablet undoubtedly held. So I seduced him. And I knew he won’t be able to resist. And that’s how I got him this position. "Faster," I demand, my voice low and husky with need. "Harder." Don grunts in response, his hips snapping forward with increased urgency. The sound of skin slapping against skin fills the room, punctuated by my wanton moans. I can't help it - he's hitting me so deep, so perfectly, that I'm lost to the sensati

  • The Apex's hidden mate   Not reckless

Caspian’s POV My fists slam against the door until my knuckles sting, but the door doesn’t give in. “Let me out!” My voice bounces off the walls, too loud in the cramped room, too desperate, too much like the kid I swore I’d never be again. Why is this happening to me? The last thing I remember was a sharp and filthy teeth sinking into my arm because I got too cocky in a fight with the rogue. I was winning, I was, until I wasn’t. I thought I had it handled. I always think I have it handled. Now I woke up here. My stomach twists as my eyes scan the peeling wallpaper, the cracked ceiling, the thin mattress shoved in the corner. The air reeks of rot, the same stench that never left, the one that clung to me when I was a kid and couldn’t escape. This room. This prison. The one they locked me in whenever they wanted their personal time when they are taking their drugs. Every time they lock me in, it meant hours—days sometimes—of silence. Me, small and hungry, banging on the wal

  • The Apex's hidden mate   Trauma bond

Thane’s POV I woke up and tried to sit up, but my head smacks against something hard. I looked around to realize I am under a familiar table, and in a familiar environment. This brought back memories. How many times had I crawled under here as a kid? How am I here? Is this a dream? Pressed my back against the floor, holding my breath while the world upstairs crashed and boiled over. This was my fortress, my shelter. It was the only place I felt like I could vanish. My eyes traced the underside of the table. The scratches are still there—thin, jagged lines carved by years of restless hands and anxious knees. I used to count them when I was a kid. One… two… three… Every time I hid here, I’d keep track. Not because the number mattered, but because it gave me something to focus on, something that kept me calm through the chaos. And now, staring at them again, I know the Shadow Pack couldn’t have known this. But how? They couldn’t have asked my father. His mind was too tangl
