Aria’s POV

I could feel it again—my skin flushing, my pulse drumming in my ears, my thoughts slipping somewhere they shouldn’t.

The moment his fingers brushed my face, something deep inside me roared awake. I shoved him gently but firmly—back and pushed him out the door before I did something reckless.

Before we did something reckless.

I slammed it shut, locking it, breathing hard.

“It’s the mate bond,” I muttered to myself, dragging a hand through my hair. “It has to be.”

Because there was no way I’d be thinking of kissing Caspian. Or thinking of what came after a kiss. Goddess help me.

Later That Day

By the time Eliza and I were finally done buying all the crap we needed for our project, I was convinced my arms had detached from my body and reattached out of spite.

“My feet are crying,” I groaned, flopping dramatically on the nearest bench. “And I’m so hungry I could eat an entire food court.”

Eliza laughed, but her expression dimmed as she looked around. “This part of the

Aria’s POV Shit. Shit. Shit. What do I do? How do I get out of this situation? Without looking at the screen, I picked up the call and forced the brightest voice I could manage. “Sweetheart, why are you calling me at this hour? Miss me already?” My voice echoed a little too loudly in the hallway. I stepped forward, casually rounding the corner like I’d just wandered in by accident. “Oh,” I blinked, feigning surprise as I spotted them. “Didn’t know this hallway was so… lively.” Priscilla’s eyes snapped to me, her expression sharp. She looked me up and down with a sneer. I covered the speaker of my phone and narrowed my eyes at her. “Why are you yelling just because my phone rang? You’re not the hall monitor, Priscilla.” Then I turned to Quin, softening my tone. “Quin, Eliza’s been looking for you. She seemed a little worried.” Quin’s eyes darted between us, clearly uneasy. “I’m fine,” she said carefully. “Just… having a conversation with Miss…” “Priscilla,” I finished for her

  • The Apex's hidden mate   She is part of the deadly secret

Aria’s POV I didn’t know what came over me. One second, he was stepping back, trying to give me space, and the next, I was closing it. Kissing him. Me. Kissing Ryker. And the craziest part? It felt… right. There wasn’t the usual tension I always carried around him. It was just warmth. Steady, strong, and completely disarming. He didn’t kiss me like a player trying to win a game. He kissed me like I was something real. Something that mattered. Which only made me panic more. I pulled back quickly, heart thudding too loud in my ears. What was I doing? “Y-You never came back to ask about that date,” I said suddenly, blurting the words out just to change the subject. I couldn’t look him in the eye. “The one we agreed on.” Ryker blinked, clearly not expecting that shift. Then a smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. “I figured it’d be foolish to still go through with it after everything.” “Right,” I said quickly, nodding. “Totally. Makes sense.” There was a beat. “But,” I ad

  • The Apex's hidden mate   He isn’t that bad, I suppose. So get a kiss

Ryker’s POV I barely heard the laughter around me anymore. A table full of Alphas trying too hard—flexing strength like it meant something to me, throwing names, titles, bloodlines. One was mid-sentence about his father's company while two girls across from me kept flipping their hair and glancing my way like I couldn’t tell they were trying to get my attention “I haven’t been touched,” one whispered too loudly, biting her lip. “I’ve kept myself for you Ryker.” “You’ve never even slept with me, Ryker,” another pouted. Yeah. There was a reason for that. Because I didn’t care. Not when my mind was stuck on one thing—one girl. Aria. The woman who looked me in the eye like she could break me without lifting a finger. I leaned back in my chair, ignoring the chatter, when I heard a few Alphas at the next table laughing over something on their phone. “Omegas are competing in a game? Seriously?” one scoffed. “Why even let them on the field?” “Apparently they’re playing

  • The Apex's hidden mate   Game isn’t going as expected

Aria’s POV I gave Selena a nod, steady and unimpressed. “Alright. Let’s play.” She didn’t stop smiling as she turned and waved a hand. A Beta boy jogged up to her, and she leaned in to whisper something in his ear. He nodded, glancing at me before heading off. “They’re bringing your teammates now,” she said with that same honeyed tone. “I made sure to pick a team that matches your… standing.” I didn’t reply. I already knew this wasn’t going to be fair. That wasn’t the point. This was a spectacle. A performance for her audience. Fine. I could perform. Later At the Field. The sectioned part of the field was large and marked clearly for the game. Colorful banners waved on either side, one red and one blue—each team’s “flag” mounted on tall poles. Rows of seats under elegant canopies had already been filled with students, most of them from the elite circles. Some had snacks. Some had cameras. All of them were watching with too much interest. The moment I saw the rest of my team,

  • The Apex's hidden mate   Let’s play a game, Aria

Aria’s POV I couldn't take my bike today. Not that I didn’t want to. Goddess knows I preferred the feel of the wind against my face and the illusion of freedom it gave me. But today was different. Quin had to return to the academy, and apparently, that meant I was riding in a car—with her in the backseat and Caspian at the wheel. Caspian, who had insisted to be the one to take us. I glanced at him from the corner of my eye. One hand rested on the steering wheel like it belonged there, casual and confident, while the other tapped gently against the gear shift in time with whatever upbeat rhythm was playing from the speakers. He looked infuriatingly perfect, as always. I looked away before I could stare too long. "Comfortable?" he asked, not looking at me, but I caught the smirk in his voice. I narrowed my eyes at him. “You still haven’t told me why you insisted on being the one to drop us off.” He tilted his head slightly, that maddeningly charming smirk lingering on his lips.

  • The Apex's hidden mate   The yearn to hold you more

Aria’s POV My heart flipped, crashed, and flipped again. I snapped my gaze back to his face, trying to find something, anything to say. “I—I just came to thank you. For earlier. The restaurant.” Thane smiled faintly, the kind of smile that could unravel a girl if she let it. “You're welcome,” he said, stepping towards me, completely unbothered by the fact that he was barely dressed. I turned around fast. “I’ll wait outside.” Before I could reach the door, his arm extended beside me, not touching. Just blocking. A wall of quiet, calm presence. “I love the way you stare at me,” he said, voice low and calm, but somehow it sent a ripple down my spine. My breath caught. Why did it feel like my entire body decided to warm up all at once? “I—uh—I wasn’t…” I stumbled over my words, willing my legs not to shake. He tilted his head slightly. “I also need your help with something. Call it… compensation, since I know you hate taking anything for free.” Of course he would know that. I n

  • The Apex's hidden mate   The bitch step sisters are at it again

Aria’s POV My stepsisters. Draped in designer outfits, faces painted like porcelain, and standing like they owned the place. Their mouths hung open, wide-eyed with disbelief. And a flicker of something meaner simmered just beneath their perfect expressions. “Y-you’re… here?” Celeste stammered, her gaze sweeping up and down like she couldn’t believe I was standing in front of her. Bianca’s laugh rang out through the restaurant lobby, drawing a few eyes from nearby patrons. “Did you come here to beg for a cleaning job?” she sneered, folding her arms with a satisfied smirk. “Because that’s the only way someone like you steps foot in a place like this.” Celeste’s eyes zeroed in on the packed food bags I was holding. “And look at her,” she added with a grin. “Packing leftovers. Must be her first time tasting something that doesn’t come in a discount box.” Eliza tensed beside me, opening her mouth to speak, but I touched her arm gently and stepped forward with a cool smile. “You’re

  • The Apex's hidden mate   My Brain went offline when he kissed me

Aria’s POV The moment his lips touched mine, my brain just stopped. Everything blurred into a rush of heat and pounding heartbeats. My first kiss… and it was with him. Kaid. My mate. My lips were soft, warm, trembling slightly against his. He groaned into my mouth, tongue delving deep to taste me. His hands roamed over my body with a possessive intensity, mapping every curve and dip. I arched into his touch, wanting more, always wanting more. It wasn't rushed. It wasn't wild. It was hungry. He nipped at my lower lip, then soothed the sting with a swipe of his tongue. I gasped, giving him the opening he needed to plunder my mouth fully. He dominated me completely, angling my head just right to deepen the kiss. My breath hitched as his lips moved against mine, like he knew exactly what he was doing and wasn’t in any kind of rush. I had no idea how to kiss, not really, but I followed his lead. I let him guide me, my body reacting before my mind could catch up. It felt like he w
