Chapter 283

Author: Memo Harbor
Kenneth took it surprisingly well.

Anyone who had lived through the Frostfall tended to see things more clearly. After witnessing enough life and death, emotions dulled. Besides, he and Chloe had been a halfway couple from the start. There had never been much of a foundation between them. He was not about to collapse over her death.

Seeing Kenneth's reaction, Cyrus felt quietly satisfied.

"That's easy, then," Cyrus said with a smile. "I'll definitely pick someone you'll be happy with."

As they spoke, Zoey walked in with the crying baby in her arms. She looked lost. "Cyrus, Kenneth, she's crying again. What am I supposed to do?"

Cyrus and Kenneth exchanged a look. Both faces were completely blank.

Taking care of a baby was far beyond them. One was a lifelong bachelor. The other was a seasoned brawler. Neither had the slightest experience.

"She's probably hungry," Cyrus said.

His gaze flicked to Zoey, then settled, all too naturally, on her full, round, substantial chest. If she

With the last thread of hope gone, Brandon's face dimmed. He liked to talk about "where there is life, there is hope," but in their current situation, surviving much longer was clearly unrealistic.Cyrus looked at him and spoke without warning. "In the end, you live or die by your own hands. Still, you did move me a little. You reminded me that even in the apocalypse, traces of human decency remain."He paused, then added with a light tone, "So don't say I gave you no chance."Cyrus reached into the oversized pocket of his coat with deliberate flair and rummaged inside. After a moment, he withdrew a bag of corn seeds and tossed it onto the ground. He kept searching. Wheat, rice, beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and more than a dozen other varieties of seeds and tubers spilled out and landed at Brandon's feet."This is your opportunity," Cyrus said calmly. "You can try growing food to keep yourselves alive. Or you can eat them directly. Do whatever you want. This is as far as I wil

Brandon went back inside and called out several times, his voice loud and urgent. "Deborah! Deborah! Come down here!"Before long, a long-haired woman hurried over. Brandon solemnly placed the baby in her arms. "From now on, this child is in your care. Raise her as if she were the daughter you lost. Nothing must happen to her. She is our lifeline. Do you understand?"Deborah Gallio had lost her own daughter not long ago. When she saw the baby girl before her, emotion overwhelmed her. She pulled the child tightly into her arms and refused to let go.Cyrus smiled faintly. "Looks like I can rest easy, then?"Brandon nodded again and again. "Yes. You can absolutely rest easy."Cyrus said nothing further. He had done everything he reasonably could for the baby. From this point on, whether she lived or died was no longer something he had the strength to concern himself with. His gaze swept over the scrawny Brandon, then lifted to Building 18 ahead of them."How many people are still a

The entire complex lay in deathly silence. In a single sweep, Cyrus had wiped out most of the population, especially anyone inclined toward violence. Those who remained posed little threat now. At least, none posed a threat to him.A few residents peeked through their windows, watching him in secret, fear shining in their eyes."Is Cyrus coming to kill us next?"Terror spread through the buildings. His destination was obvious and deliberate: Building 18, the one that preached "harmonious living."The realization nearly scared the residents of Building 18 to death. More than 60 people were still alive inside. Those who had died had frozen or succumbed to complications. Brandon, an idealist, had somehow managed to keep his principles intact until now. That was exactly why Cyrus had spared Building 18 earlier.Cyrus stopped at the entrance and fired two shots into the air. "Come out, Brandon."Before long, Brandon emerged. His frame was short and thin, dark circles carved deep ben

Vincent was an outsider, but in his previous life, he had died even more miserably than Cyrus. The rich heir had been too flashy, flaunting his wealth in the group chat to buy supplies. He had painted a target on his own back. Back then, his family's home had been among the first to be broken into.Cyrus' road of revenge had finally ended. Nothing weighed on his mind anymore. The world felt cleaner, sharper. Even breathing came easily.Cyrus let out a long, satisfied breath. "Ahh, this feels good."From this moment on, no one left in Cervusa Residence posed a threat to him. The days ahead were meant to be enjoyed. That was assuming he and Vincent first dealt with Severin's so-called doomsday bunker, the one rumored to withstand even an H-bomb. After that, he would leave this place behind and erase his trail for good.Cyrus slung the assault rifle across his back and headed home. Before entering Kenneth's sickroom, he carefully wore an expression of grief."Kenneth, I've got some

Cyrus pressed himself into the corner of the corridor and braced the riot shield tight against his body. The explosion was louder than he had expected. Pain stabbed through his ears as his eardrums rang. The blast itself did not reach him. Dust and fragments rained down from the walls instead. He released a long, controlled breath. With the shield raised and a chambered assault rifle in his other hand, Cyrus advanced toward the door of 1301, one careful step at a time. The sight inside finally loosened the tension in his body. The grenades had done their job. More than a dozen people lay scattered across the room. Furniture had been blown over, pinning some of them beneath its weight so that only parts of their bodies showed. In the corner, a man soaked in blood struggled for a long time and failed to rise. He glared at Cyrus with naked hatred.Blood spilled from his mouth as he shouted, his voice thick with rage, "We helped you so much. Why did you kill us?"Betrayal burned in h
