Chapter 2

Author: Ginger King
The moment I finished speaking, the room fell completely silent.

No one had expected my dad, who was always so mild-mannered, to finally lose his temper.

And the only reason he'd gotten angry was that someone had insulted his son.

A wave of warmth swept through me, and my eyes reddened before I could stop them.

"What did you just say?" Cameron frowned, his face filled with disbelief and offended indignation. "Blake, you think you can talk to me like that? You expect an elder like me to apologize to your son?"

He shot to his feet and advanced toward my dad, one step at a time. "Don't think that just because your son has made a little money, your whole family can start raising your voices at me!

"So what if I discipline your son?" He thrust a finger into my dad's chest, jabbing him hard. "I could curse him out, or I could make him get down on his knees and beg for mercy. He'd better do it without a single complaint!"

I'd had enough. I stepped forward and shoved him away from my dad. "This is my house! If you want to throw your weight around, go do it in your own home. You're not welcome here! Get out! Both of you!"

I didn't care about manners or appearances anymore. I grabbed Cameron and dragged him toward the door.

We'd barely taken a few steps when a sharp pain exploded in my lower back.

"Adrian, you little creep! You want to die? You dare lay a hand on my dad? I'll kill you!"

The force of the blow sent me pitching forward. My face slammed into the floor, and pain exploded across my vision.

Before I could recover, Parker raised his foot and kicked me hard.

I curled up on the floor, unable to defend myself, and took several solid kicks. All I could hear were my parents crying and begging them to stop.

Suddenly, a warm body threw itself over mine, shielding me.

When I opened my eyes, I saw my dad.

And those two animals, Cameron and Parker, were still kicking him, one blow after another.

My mother, Gemma Mitchell, couldn't pull them apart by herself. They shoved her violently to the side, and she fell hard. She was in so much pain that she couldn't get back up for a long time.

I wrapped my arms around my dad and rolled over with him. They kept beating us for what felt like forever before finally stopping.

Cameron and Parker returned to the couch, looking smug and defiant.

I swallowed the metallic taste of blood in my throat, staggered to my feet, and helped my parents up. Then I picked up my phone to call the police.

I'd barely dialed one digit when someone snatched the phone from my hand and smashed it against the floor, reducing it to a pile of broken pieces.

"You little punk! Haven't you learned your lesson?" Parker pointed at my face and cursed. "So what if you call the cops? This is a family matter. They'll give us a lecture at most.

"I've got connections on the streets. You think I'm afraid of a police station? Even if the damn king himself showed up, he wouldn't be able to do a thing to me!"

Looking at his shameless expression, I clenched my fists so tightly my teeth ached with rage.

But what he did next was even more outrageous.

"Your little house looks pretty nice," he said, picking up a vase from the table and weighing it in his hand. "Must've cost you a pretty penny."

"What... what are you doing?" My mom stared at him in terror, her voice trembling.

Parker didn't answer. The corner of his mouth curled into a sinister grin before he simply let go.

Crash!

The vase hit the floor, sending shards of porcelain flying in every direction.

My mom screamed and stumbled backward.

"Oops. Slipped out of my hand." Parker pretended to dust off his hands before turning to Cameron. "Dad, how much do you think this vase was worth? Do I need to pay for it?"

Cameron strolled a couple of steps into the living room and picked up a framed photograph from the TV stand.

"Pay for what? We're family. It's just a vase. You think your uncle's going to make you pay him back?"

With that, he casually threw the frame onto the floor. The sound of shattering glass was painfully sharp.

"What the hell are you doing?" I rushed forward, trying to stop them.

My mom grabbed me tightly, afraid I'd get hurt, and wouldn't let me approach them. "Adrian, don't! Please, don't..."

I could only stand there and watch as the father and son turned our home upside down. They kicked over the television, overturned the tables, and swept every decorative item off the cabinets.

Things shattered. Others rolled across the floor.

"Hahahaha!" Cameron threw his head back and laughed. "Blake, looks like you're going to have to renovate your whole house now!"

Cameron and Parker couldn't even get close to them. Before trying to throw their weight around, they now had to think twice about whether they could take on those two men.As the fifteen-day deadline drew closer, they had no choice but to try to sell the property to pay off the debt. But who would pay over $200,000 dollars for a so-called "bunker" in the village that didn't even have proper windows? They contacted real estate agents, put up advertisements, and even tried livestreaming the property

The day they moved in fell during the sweltering, humid rainy season in the south. The factory building had no interior partitions whatsoever. Its vast, empty interior resembled an indoor basketball court.Even a slightly raised voice echoed through the space for several seconds.During the day, the windows, which were positioned more than six feet above the ground, were narrow ventilation slits that could only be pushed open a crack. With the doors shut in broad daylight, the interior was as dark as a basement. The moment they turned on the lights, rows of glaring industrial metal-halide lamps overhead flooded the entire space with a stark, pale light. There wasn't a trace of warmth or coziness. Instead, the place looked more like a cold morgue. But the worst part was the complete lack of basic living facilities. There was no kitchen and certainly no comfortable, private bathroom.Whenever they wanted to cook, they had no choice but to set up a portable gas burner in the middle

Parker's hands trembled as he swiped to answer the call, accidentally putting it on speakerphone."Parker! You son of a bitch! How dare you make fools of our entire family!" Tessa's father roared furiously through the phone."Sir... please, just let me explain. It's not what you think. Someone set me up..." Parker immediately wilted. He repeatedly bowed toward the phone, his voice trembling on the verge of tears."Explain, my ass! I've seen the video. You told me that was a $500,000 minimalist villa? It's obviously a chemical plant workshop! You're a liar, and you're already saddled with over $200,000 in corporate debt!"Did you plan to trick my daughter into marrying you so you could use the Bennett family's money to clean up your mess?!""No! Sir, I swear that's not what I meant! I truly love Tessa..."Seeing his son apologizing like a whipped dog, Cameron snatched the phone from him and started cursing at the screen. "What the hell are you yelling for? Think you're something s

Upon hearing that, Parker's eyes widened sharply, and his entire body went rigid.I let out a cold laugh, making sure every word hit home. "Tessa's family finally agreed to your marriage on one condition: you had to own a decent house in the city, paid for in full."When you couldn't afford one, you lied and told them you'd built a 500,000-dollar, high-tech luxury villa back home, paid for outright. You wanted to make the marriage a done deal first, then slowly get your hands on her family's money after the wedding. Isn't that right?""How... how do you know that?!" Cold sweat broke out across Parker's forehead. He stared at me in sheer panic."You've been bragging about it all over the village. Did you really think everyone else was deaf?" I scoffed."Parker, you might be able to get away with refusing to repay an individual. But when you owe a major corporation construction costs, our legal department will apply to the court for an asset freeze tomorrow."Once that happens, you

What stood before everyone was a rectangular, box-shaped building. The walls were absurdly thick. The windows were positioned two meters above the ground, and a steel framework supported an exceptionally high roof. There were no interior partitions at all. It was a textbook industrial factory building. The smile on Cameron's face froze completely. He rubbed his eyes in disbelief. "Adrian... Th-this is the villa you designed? How the hell is anyone supposed to live here?"Parker looked as if he'd been struck by lightning. He whipped around and roared at me, "Adrian! You son of a bitch! Are you screwing around with me? Where's my marital house? What monstrosity did you build for me?"He brandished his fists and charged toward me, but several burly workers standing behind me immediately grabbed him and pinned him down.I calmly pulled the contract out of my bag and looked at him coldly. "Parker, I told you from the beginning that I specialize in industrial architecture."This buildi

The moment I gave in, Parker burst out laughing triumphantly. "See? You should've done that from the start. Why make me force your hand?""You're right, Parker. We're family, after all." I forced a strained smile. "But since we're building a house, we should follow the proper procedures and sign a contract."The smile froze on Parker's face. "What contract?"I took them to my car, retrieved the contract, and handed it to him."Regulations are strict these days. If we're going to use company materials, we need the proper paperwork. Otherwise, even if I secretly take materials from the company, and the company finds out, you'll be held liable as the homeowner, too."You don't want to get dragged into a lawsuit before you even move into your new house, do you?"Parker took the contract and flipped through it with a frown.Page after page was packed with technical jargon: "design specifications", "construction standards", "material requirements"...His eyes glazed over. Irritated,
