Rustling sounds woke me and I rolled onto my side to see my mate digging through the dresser in the dark room. The clock on the desk showed it was just after three am, neither of us has slept very long.
“What are you doing?” I asked, almost afraid she would tell me she was leaving.
“I missed training yesterday. It wouldn’t look good for me to miss again today.” She whispered, pulling on one of my t-shirts before settling on the bed beside me. “I hope you don’t mind, I had to borrow your spare clothes. You destroyed mine.”
My eyes raked over her. My shirt swallowed her even more in her seated position. It was both sexy and adorable. I tugged the sleeve, pulling her against my ches
I glared at the wolves crowded around my desk. Zane had brought Selene, Alistair, and Rory as commanded. Victoria had tagged along, eager to start some new assignment she had been given by my mate. I wanted answers. There was a reason that Maggie had fled the safety of the pack with her children and I suspected one of the three I had summoned knew what it was. “So, are we not going to address the elephant in the room here or what?” Rory spoke first after I had finished explaining why I had summoned them. “Seems to me there’s only one reason for a she-wolf in a cushy position to suddenly up and run. How do we know she wasn’t a spy?” In one smooth motion, I sent my desk flying into the wall, removing the only thing that separated
Victoria “Stay back a minute if you don’t mind, Vic” Selene called as she dismissed our small group from training. “Everything good?” I asked. “Perfect actually. I think its time for you to lose the training wheels. Well, most of them.” She chuckled. “I’m giving you an assignment. You won’t be attending the pack training going forward. Starting tomorrow, I’m placing you as the Alpha’s assistant.” “I’m not sure I understand.” I frowned. “I thought I was doing well with your specialized training.” &ldq
Rory woke me with a gentle shake. The smile on her face told me I was in for some trouble as her test subject. “You slept through lunch. That Dramamine really knocked you out.” She chuckled, handing me a tray of food from the hospital cafeteria. “Eat up. I’m all done with the serum and I want to test it out.” I ate slowly, the mischievous grin Rory was giving me leaving me nervous. I knew she wouldn’t do anything to cause me harm, but I didn’t care for the idea of being a science experiment. Her grin grew even wider when I realized I couldn’t drag out my meal any further. She picked up two vials from the counter beside her and waved them in the air.&
Selene I left Lucas’s office feeling conflicted. His reaction to Rory questioning whether Maggie was a spy had rattled me. Part of me was thrilled with the she-wolf’s disappearance, but a small voice in the back of my mind wondered if his feelings for her were stronger than the mate bond between us. “The Alpha is a busy man!” Gerdie’s voice floated down the hall as I rounded the last corner toward the pack house lobby. “I can’t just interrupt his meeting for refugees.” “What seems to be the prob – Momma?” I gasped. My mother, brother, his mate, and children, stood crowded around the receptionist desk. It was clear from their faces that my mother had been demanding to have her way for s
King Jonas “Thank you for the update.” I purred into the receiver. My idiotic nephew had managed to get himself captured along with one of his pathetic assassins. My spy within the Dark Moon pack had done her job, ensuring they wouldn’t talk, and the pack couldn’t get their hands on any of their tools. The fool would need to find his own way out of the mess he had landed himself in, though it would be best for him if the pack killed him before I could get my hands on him. My spy was proving to be the only useful wolf in my entire kingdom. “Summon the guild handlers!” I yelled to no one in particular. The wolves standing guard in the hallway scrambled to enact my orders. With my nephew proving to be as u
Fenrick ‘Meet me at my apartment.’ Alistair’s voice came through the mind link. I finished my cooldown with the pack group I had opted to train with and made my way to meet him at his small apartment. He ushered me inside in silence, guiding me to take a seat on the couch. “What’s up boss?” I asked, curious why he had called me to meet him. “How much do you know about the Alpha’s mistress?” “Maggie? I was under the impression she was his chosen mate. I know she’s from Cerathe, has a few kids, but that’s about it.” “She seems to have
Selene After I had my family settled into Lucas’s home, I headed to the other side of town. My mother had insisted on going with, unwilling to let me out of her sight unless she absolutely had to. The first part of our drive passed in silence, my mother staring at me as she moved her hand as if to take mine before quickly placing it back in her lap. “I should have listened to you.” She whispered, finally breaking the silence. “Maybe if I hadn’t tried to force my own desires on you, you wouldn’t have ended up being attacked and killed.” “It’s ok, mom.” I smiled, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. “I was hard-headed and wrong.”&
Victoria I thrashed around wildly, snaping and snarling at the small man that had stabbed me. The silver dagger in my side burned like an inferno. I needed to get it out, but first I needed to disable my attacker. Fear permeated the air, the man no longer able to cover his scent as my jaws finally closed around his leg. Using the last of my waning strength, I whipped my head hard, slamming him against a nearby tree. His body stilled and I limped toward him. He was unconscious. ‘We have to get the knife out’. Honi demanded. ‘We can’t heal until it’s out.’ ‘I can’t shift with it in. If I do, it could hit something vital.’ ‘I’m going to try something. I need
