Chapter 4

Third person's point of view

She didn’t know herself from how long she was staring at the document in her hand. She read it nth no. of times. She was so lost thinking about the matter written in those papers that she didn’t hear the knock on her door. Alexa goes inside the room after knocking numerous times and not getting any reply.

She came near her and shook her hard. “Where are you lost, girl? I was knocking on the door  for the last ten minutes." She complained and sat beside her. As soon as she registered her friend's presence,she hid the document in her hand behind her, smartly. "I was just thinking about the assignments." Alice replied and gave her a sorry look. "Are you worried about Uncle? Don't worry bae, he will be alright." Alexa said and hugged her. Within a few seconds, she got away from her and said with a complaining look on her face again." You promised to give me a treat today. Did you forget about it?” 

Today is Alice’s birthday and she promised her friend to treat her to a meal. She remembered her words and said with a smile, “ Where do you want to eat?” Alexa gave her a big gummy smile and said, “ Same, at our favourite spot. Now go and get ready.” She kinda ordered her. As soon as Alice entered her bathroom, Alexa’s smile was replaced by a sad expression. She knows about the worsening condition of her friend’s father and how much her friend is worrying about the money for her father's treatment. Her thoughts were broken when she heard the opening sound of the bathroom door. " Shall we?" Alice asked and they both left for their destination. 

The destination was within walking distance from Alice's home. They sat on one of the tables and placed their order. During lunch, Alexa tried her best to cheer up her friend and distract her from the sad thoughts and she was almost able to do it but she lost it when they were returning home. On their way back home, Alexa was continuously talking but Alice was last in her thoughts. Suddenly she heard Alexa yelling her name. She came out of her thoughts and looked at her friend. 

"What the hell happened Alexa? Why are you yelling ?" she asked with a frown on her face. " Seriously Alice, You are asking me what happened? You seemed to be too lost in your thoughts that you didn't even realise a car rushing towards and kept on honking at you to get aside? Do you want to die? she almost yelled at her in the middle of the road. She held her friend's hand and dragged her aside and asked in a calm but a strict tone." Just tell me what is troubling you?" Alice swallowed hard and a tear rolled down on her right check. Alexa hurriedly wiped the tear from her friend's cheek and said," Let's go and then we'll talk and you will be telling me each and every thing troubling you." Alice nodded and they started walking towards her home.

After changing her clothes, they both sat on the bed and Alex gave her I-want-to-know-the- truth. Alice inhaled deeply and started telling her What happened to her from the last five days.

! Flashback!

A month before....

 "Alice. I want to draft you a client's contract and here are the details." Her law firm boss said and left a file on her desk. As she was working on the file she found out, What is it actually about? She was surprised to know that it was a surrogacy contract, where the Party A was giving a hefty amount of money to the Party B and in exchange, the Party B will keep their child in her womb for 9 months and after the birth of the child, Party B will not have any rights on the child in the future.

That was the first time she was seeing this type of contract. She didn't understand what made that girl sign this type of contract. Maybe money? She shrugged her shoulders and her fingers start working on the keyboard. 

Little did she know that one day she will be signing the same contract for the money and that one day will be this soon.
