Chapter 54

Amanda's POV

I heard the rustle of leaves in the distance and thought that the wind was playing tricks on me. However, slow and measured footsteps followed from behind me, and I could no longer ignore its presence. I turned, and saw a ghostly figure, just about ten feet away striding towards us.

That figure was wearing thick-soled tracking shoes, and I only knew one person who would do that. The familiar face, already wrinkled with age, walked slowly towards Victoria, Vince, and myself. "Dad...what are you doing here?"

I could hardly keep my voice steady, as my heart thudded wildly as if about to jump out of my body. Holy crackers! Did he know about this all along? I wanted to faint in embarrassment.

I felt like I was experiencing an out-of-body experience as my whole body went numb, like an empty case where my soul has left my body. Even worse, my dad wasn't looking at me like I had expected him to, but his gaze was centered on Victoria. Did they know each other? Even though I was
