Chapter 6: Detention Buddies?
Faith’s P.O.V
Brandon, the boy I had seen this morning, got up from his seat and moved closer to where I was standing; his stance casual like he didn’t have a care in the world.
What I immediately noticed was that he had changed his clothes since this morning, and that his midnight black hair looked slightly damp, like he had taken a shower not too long ago.
Debby immediately held my hand and pushed me back towards the serving area, to stay as far away from him and the other boy as possible. “Crap!” She cussed under her breath, looking around frantically for a way to escape.
The new guy had dirty blond hair and brown eyes and he was wearing a blue jacket over a white t-shirt and blue jeans. He looked a bit older than us, probably the same age as Brandon or maybe older…a senior perhaps? But he looked mad; like he was about ready to murder someone. And as soon as he saw Brandon, his anger only seemed to intensify.
“You motherfucking son of a bitch!” The boy yelled at him, baring his teeth, making me flinch. “How dare you mess with my girl?”
The entire cafeteria seemed to have gone silent at the shouts, almost like everyone was waiting for a fight to break out. But what surprised me the most was how Brandon just smirked at the other guy instead of trying to sort things out…like he was anticipating a fight himself.
“Your girl?” He smirked. “Well, I didn’t hear her screaming your name while I was fucking her senseless this morning.”
And that was the nail in the coffin.
“You bloody-fucker!” The boy screamed in rage and ran towards Brandon with his fists clenched.
I watched everything happen as if in slow motion. The scream of rage…the clenched fist that the boy threw at Brandon upon reaching him, just a couple feet from where I was standing…Debby running the other way just at the right moment…She tried to pull me after her as well, but I seemed to have been frozen to the spot.
And as a result…I was now in the middle of the crossfire.
Brandon avoided the hit to his face at the last moment by tilting his head to the side and then he brought up his knee to hit the other boy in the gut, before punching him to the side. Too bad I was in the way and the boy came flying towards me instead, causing me to scream out in pain as he landed on me and my back hit the metal racks.
The food tray fell from my hand and I felt a shot of pain up my spine before I landed on the floor and the boy fell face down in front of me.
Much to my surprise however, Brandon was in front of me the next instant, kneeling down beside me with his hand on my shoulder. “You okay?” He asked, but before I could answer, he shoved me behind him and landed a kick to the other guy, who had picked up the fallen tray from the ground and was about to hit him on the head. He flew back to land on a table before dropping to the floor.
“Give up, Scott.” Brandon told the other guy. “You’re fighting a losing battle. We both know exactly who ‘your girl’ wants and why she was with you in the first place.”
“You bastard!” Scott snapped at Brandon, but he was now clutching his sides. The hit to the table must have caused him some kind of serious injury, or he would’ve been at Brandon’s throat by now.
“Y-”
“Enough!”
All of our attention snapped to the voice that echoed throughout the cafeteria and finally, I saw a man, who looked to be a teacher in his mid thirties, come rushing into the room. From what I saw on the other student’s faces, this was one teacher no one wanted to mess with.
“I should’ve known it was you!” He spat at Brandon, his voice once again echoing throughout the silent room. “Detention! Now! Both you and Scott! Separate rooms!”
But it wasn’t over yet because the next thing I know, his attention snapped towards me, his gray eyes sparking fire and I instantly cowered behind Brandon. “You! You were involved too? Detention! Now!”
My heart thrashed against my ribcage in fear. Detention? Me?
“Mr. Ruthwell, she wasn’t-” Debby tried to step up for me but one look from Mr. Ruthwell had her silenced and bowing her head.
“Stay quiet, unless you want to join them for detention as well.” He snapped, before turning towards us. “Now, follow me, all three of you!”
Once again I found myself frozen to the spot, scared out of my mind. Why was I getting punishment? Why was I being taken to detention when I haven’t even done anything? I was just in the way…I got hurt too…then why…?
Someone tugged on my arm and I found myself being lifted from the floor and tugged forward. Looking up, I saw that it was Brandon who had pulled on my arm. He tilted his head towards the door, as if giving me a silent hint to follow him. So I did.
I gave Debby one last look, but she just gave me a sad smile. I understood that I couldn’t go against a teacher, so I’d have to follow him to the detention room. So I bowed my head, clutching the sides of my dress tightly in my fists as I followed behind Brandon and the teacher unwillingly.
From the corner of my eyes, I saw Scott lift himself off the floor with some difficulty and follow behind us just as unwillingly, groaning as he limped on one foot for a few steps before he could start walking somewhat normally.
We were led down another couple of hallways and then we reached an empty hallway after taking a right turn. Mr. Ruthwell opened a door and pointed towards Brandon and I. “The two of you, go inside and write your name in the registry. Scott, come with me.”
With another groan, Scott began to follow Mr. Ruthwell to another classroom as I turned back to face the one I had been assigned.
Brandon sighed and went straight inside the classroom, switching on all the lights and fans as he went to the middle of the classroom and plopped down on a random seat without bothering to write his name. Nervously, I followed suit, but instead of sitting at the front as I usually would…I went to the seat next to Brandon and sat on it.
Brandon gave me an interested smirk, but I lowered my head, keeping my eyes tainted to my hands on my lap. Thankfully the food that had been spilled at the cafeteria had all been sealed, or my dress would’ve been a mess right now.
Surprisingly, I found myself peaking at Brandon from the corner of my eyes, just to see what he was doing. Something about him just seemed…interesting, enough to make me steal glances at him. He had taken out his cell phone from his pocket in the meantime and appeared to be playing games in it, not caring at all about what to do for detention, but still, he had my attention.
He had been beside me after Scott had landed on me and he had also helped me when I had been stupidly rooted to the spot after the shock of what had happened at the cafeteria. Those simple acts had somehow made me interested in him…and despite the warning from the other girls about how Brandon slept around…I found myself continuously looking back at him, just to see what he was doing.
I still found it hard to believe that he was the same person who I had seen inside the washroom this morning. From this close, he did look incredibly handsome. Blue eyes and midnight black hair, a strong athletic built and a presence that most people would find hard to ignore. He easily made heads turn wherever he went.
I don’t know how much time had passed by, but Brandon must have been fed up of my constant glances because he finally put his phone back inside his pocket with a sigh and turned to face me with raised eyebrows.
“What?” He said, almost in frustration, his eyes narrowed just a tiny bit as he tilted his head to the side to look at me.
Damn it! This wasn’t what I wanted. I wasn’t trying to get his attention…what should I do? What should I do?
And then, like a complete fool…I told him exactly what I shouldn’t have told him. Ever. But by then, it was too late.
“Y-you shouldn’t d-do it…in t-the wash-r-room…”
Chapter 7: Ms. Purity RingBrandon’s P.O.V“Y-you shouldn’t d-do it…in t-the wash-r-room…”I raised my eyebrows at the little mouse. “Excuse me?”“I…I know it’s not my b-business…” she swallowed, as if she was finding it difficult to get words past her lips. “But…you s-shouldn’t d-do it…in the w-washroom.”Wasn’t this interesting? I knew I made women nervous, but this little mousy almost looked scared. Exactly how much of a virgin was she?“Do ‘it’?” I couldn’t help the tug on my lips. “Do what exactly?”“Y-you k-know…”Another gulp, another stutter.“No, I don’t.” I smirked at her nervousness. “Unless you tell me what it was that I’m not supposed to be doing in the washroom, how
Chapter 8: Not a Nice GuyFaith’s P.O.V“Faith? Are you there?”Debby’s voice came from right outside the door, effectively breaking the moment as Brandon quickly stepped away from me, putting the necklace back into his pocket hastily, before he sauntered out of the classroom. For a few seconds, my mind had gone completely blank, and it stayed that way until I felt a tap on my shoulder. Startled, I looked up to find Debby looking at me with concern in her eyes.“What’s wrong?” Debby placed her hands on my shoulders. “Did Brandon scare you? I’m sorry, if he did. I-”“No.” I shook my head immediately; not wanting her to get the wrong idea. “Brandon didn’t scare me…he…he was just teasing me.”He made fun of me…teased me and made me nervous enough that I could’ve fainted, but…he didn
Chapter 9: SignificanceFaith’s P.O.VThis wasn’t the first time I found myself standing in front of the same metal doors against the back drop of the same white walls.I knew what was to come next. I knew why I was seeing this dream…but despite being aware that this was all a dream…I could help but take an involuntary step forward and place my hand on the cold metal knob. The cold coming off of the room chilled me to my bone and for a second, I froze on the spot. An eerie feeling began to take over me as I closed my eyes shut and took a deep breath to calm my nerves before I turned the knob…and entered.A single light hanging from the ceiling was the only source of illumination inside the room and it was placed right on top of the two beds placed inside the otherwise dark room.I didn’t need to do this…I didn’t need to do this…I remembered e
Chapter 10: Unknown to the DangersFaith’s P.O.V“Morning!” Debby waved at me as soon as I came out of the house with my backpack slung over my shoulders.“Oh? Looks like you’ve made a new friend!” Aunt Kathy looked towards Debby with a smile as she came out behind me. “I’m glad you two are getting along.”“All thanks to you, Kathy!” Debby winked at my aunt before slinging an arm around my shoulder. “Would you like to walk to school with me?”“Of course!” I agreed instantly. “I would love that!”“Great!” Aunt Kathy clapped her hands together in excitement. “I’ll buy you a bike on my way home from office today. I think the two of you going to school together is better than this old lady dropping you off. What do you think?”“You don’t need to buy me a bike. I c
Chapter 11: Meeting DavidFaith’s P.O.V Like Debby had mentioned, the library wasn’t all that hard to find. And it was humongous! At this time of the day, there weren’t many students inside, or perhaps I wasn’t seeing everyone since the place was huge. Waving a ‘hello’ to the librarian as I showed her my student ID to get inside, I went straight for the isle that had the books I needed to look into in order to finish my homework. On my way however, I did find tons of other really cool books. There were several encyclopedias on marine life and so many other cool books on sea creatures that I had never seen before. Before I came to Florida, I used to be obsessed with the sea and all the creatures that lived in it; so much that I had actually wanted to study Marine Biology, before realizing just how different a hobby and a degree can be. But that didn’t mean I had to give up o
Chapter 12: Growing a SpineBrandon’s P.O.V“Why were you so rude towards him?”For the first time since I laid eyes on Faith, the scared little mouse, I felt my eyes widen in surprise at the tone of her voice. “Excuse me?”“David was being nice and helpful!” She frowned, her tone a bit deeper, richer…huskier… like she was angry. “And you just came and insulted him! How could you treat others like that?”That had me raising my eyebrows at her in surprise. Looked like the kitty was finally showing some hidden claws. Well…wasn’t this going to be interesting?“What exactly do you even know about David?” I asked her instead. “His background? His character? Anything that would help you determine that he wasn’t a shady guy?”That startled her enough that she shut her mouth, pursing her lips in a wa
Chapter 13: Anything for the PendantFaith’s P.O.V“You want to go where?” Debby’s eyes were wide as she stared at me like she was seeing a ghost.“Shhh!” I pressed a hand to her mouth so no one else would hear her voice, but Debby just swatted my hand away as if swatting a fly.Thankfully, Aurelia and Aura were both sitting on another table with a couple other boys, looking like they were enjoying themselves, so I wasn’t worried about them coming back to our table. Monika, however, was sitting beside us, enjoying the conversation I was having with Debby, because aside from me, Nik was the only other person who knew about Brandon being Debby’s cousin.“Well…I have no idea ‘where’ exactly…” I laughed nervously. “But he said it was the only way he was going to give me back my pendant.”“That son of a-ugh!&rd
Chapter 14: UnexpectedFaith’s P.O.V “Why does this look like a k-kidnapping van?” I asked Brandon in a shaky voice, swallowing my nervousness as I looked around the insides of the black-out van. All the windows were tainted black and the aircon was blasting at high, making the car seem like a mini igloo.“Maybe it is,” Brandon smirked at me, leaning in closer until our noses were almost touching. “You shouldn’t be so trusting, little mouse. Think before you enter someone’s car all alone. What if I was here to kidnap you and do something unspeakable?”I sprang back from him in fear, almost hitting my head on the glass window. “W-will y-you?”Brandon moved away from me while laughing. “Sweet Jesus! You’re more naive than I had expected. You seriously crack me up.”A little confused at what was happening, I nonetheless sat bac
