Chapter 6: Detention Buddies?
Faith’s P.O.V
Brandon, the boy I had seen this morning, got up from his seat and moved closer to where I was standing; his stance casual like he didn’t have a care in the world.
What I immediately noticed was that he had changed his clothes since this morning, and that his midnight black hair looked slightly damp, like he had taken a shower not too long ago.
Debby immediately held my hand and pushed me back towards the serving area, to stay as far away from him and the other boy as possible. “Crap!” She cussed under her breath, looking around frantically for a way to escape.
The new guy had dirty blond hair and brown eyes and he was wearing a blue jacket over a white t-shirt and blue jeans. He looked a bit older than us, probably the same age as Brandon or maybe older…a senior perhaps? But he looked mad; like he was about ready to murder someone. And as soon as he saw Brandon, his anger only seemed to intensify.
“You motherfucking son of a bitch!” The boy yelled at him, baring his teeth, making me flinch. “How dare you mess with my girl?”
The entire cafeteria seemed to have gone silent at the shouts, almost like everyone was waiting for a fight to break out. But what surprised me the most was how Brandon just smirked at the other guy instead of trying to sort things out…like he was anticipating a fight himself.
“Your girl?” He smirked. “Well, I didn’t hear her screaming your name while I was fucking her senseless this morning.”
And that was the nail in the coffin.
“You bloody-fucker!” The boy screamed in rage and ran towards Brandon with his fists clenched.
I watched everything happen as if in slow motion. The scream of rage…the clenched fist that the boy threw at Brandon upon reaching him, just a couple feet from where I was standing…Debby running the other way just at the right moment…She tried to pull me after her as well, but I seemed to have been frozen to the spot.
And as a result…I was now in the middle of the crossfire.
Brandon avoided the hit to his face at the last moment by tilting his head to the side and then he brought up his knee to hit the other boy in the gut, before punching him to the side. Too bad I was in the way and the boy came flying towards me instead, causing me to scream out in pain as he landed on me and my back hit the metal racks.
The food tray fell from my hand and I felt a shot of pain up my spine before I landed on the floor and the boy fell face down in front of me.
Much to my surprise however, Brandon was in front of me the next instant, kneeling down beside me with his hand on my shoulder. “You okay?” He asked, but before I could answer, he shoved me behind him and landed a kick to the other guy, who had picked up the fallen tray from the ground and was about to hit him on the head. He flew back to land on a table before dropping to the floor.
“Give up, Scott.” Brandon told the other guy. “You’re fighting a losing battle. We both know exactly who ‘your girl’ wants and why she was with you in the first place.”
“You bastard!” Scott snapped at Brandon, but he was now clutching his sides. The hit to the table must have caused him some kind of serious injury, or he would’ve been at Brandon’s throat by now.
“Y-”
“Enough!”
All of our attention snapped to the voice that echoed throughout the cafeteria and finally, I saw a man, who looked to be a teacher in his mid thirties, come rushing into the room. From what I saw on the other student’s faces, this was one teacher no one wanted to mess with.
“I should’ve known it was you!” He spat at Brandon, his voice once again echoing throughout the silent room. “Detention! Now! Both you and Scott! Separate rooms!”
But it wasn’t over yet because the next thing I know, his attention snapped towards me, his gray eyes sparking fire and I instantly cowered behind Brandon. “You! You were involved too? Detention! Now!”
My heart thrashed against my ribcage in fear. Detention? Me?
“Mr. Ruthwell, she wasn’t-” Debby tried to step up for me but one look from Mr. Ruthwell had her silenced and bowing her head.
“Stay quiet, unless you want to join them for detention as well.” He snapped, before turning towards us. “Now, follow me, all three of you!”
Once again I found myself frozen to the spot, scared out of my mind. Why was I getting punishment? Why was I being taken to detention when I haven’t even done anything? I was just in the way…I got hurt too…then why…?
Someone tugged on my arm and I found myself being lifted from the floor and tugged forward. Looking up, I saw that it was Brandon who had pulled on my arm. He tilted his head towards the door, as if giving me a silent hint to follow him. So I did.
I gave Debby one last look, but she just gave me a sad smile. I understood that I couldn’t go against a teacher, so I’d have to follow him to the detention room. So I bowed my head, clutching the sides of my dress tightly in my fists as I followed behind Brandon and the teacher unwillingly.
From the corner of my eyes, I saw Scott lift himself off the floor with some difficulty and follow behind us just as unwillingly, groaning as he limped on one foot for a few steps before he could start walking somewhat normally.
We were led down another couple of hallways and then we reached an empty hallway after taking a right turn. Mr. Ruthwell opened a door and pointed towards Brandon and I. “The two of you, go inside and write your name in the registry. Scott, come with me.”
With another groan, Scott began to follow Mr. Ruthwell to another classroom as I turned back to face the one I had been assigned.
Brandon sighed and went straight inside the classroom, switching on all the lights and fans as he went to the middle of the classroom and plopped down on a random seat without bothering to write his name. Nervously, I followed suit, but instead of sitting at the front as I usually would…I went to the seat next to Brandon and sat on it.
Brandon gave me an interested smirk, but I lowered my head, keeping my eyes tainted to my hands on my lap. Thankfully the food that had been spilled at the cafeteria had all been sealed, or my dress would’ve been a mess right now.
Surprisingly, I found myself peaking at Brandon from the corner of my eyes, just to see what he was doing. Something about him just seemed…interesting, enough to make me steal glances at him. He had taken out his cell phone from his pocket in the meantime and appeared to be playing games in it, not caring at all about what to do for detention, but still, he had my attention.
He had been beside me after Scott had landed on me and he had also helped me when I had been stupidly rooted to the spot after the shock of what had happened at the cafeteria. Those simple acts had somehow made me interested in him…and despite the warning from the other girls about how Brandon slept around…I found myself continuously looking back at him, just to see what he was doing.
I still found it hard to believe that he was the same person who I had seen inside the washroom this morning. From this close, he did look incredibly handsome. Blue eyes and midnight black hair, a strong athletic built and a presence that most people would find hard to ignore. He easily made heads turn wherever he went.
I don’t know how much time had passed by, but Brandon must have been fed up of my constant glances because he finally put his phone back inside his pocket with a sigh and turned to face me with raised eyebrows.
“What?” He said, almost in frustration, his eyes narrowed just a tiny bit as he tilted his head to the side to look at me.
Damn it! This wasn’t what I wanted. I wasn’t trying to get his attention…what should I do? What should I do?
And then, like a complete fool…I told him exactly what I shouldn’t have told him. Ever. But by then, it was too late.
“Y-you shouldn’t d-do it…in t-the wash-r-room…”
Chapter 101: Happy Ever AfterFaith’s P.O.V7 Years Later…“And the award for the best male in a leading role goes to…”I waited as the camera flashed to all the actors in the lineup that were nominated in the award ceremony, my anticipation at a fever pitch as I was literally at the edge of my seat, waiting for the results. But just as the host was about to announce the name of the actor…the TV screen went blank.“What the…?”I turned around to search for the remote, but even when I tried to turn it on, it didn’t work.It was only when someone cleared their throat, quite loudly, in the room, that my attention finally snapped towards the door and I found Aunt Kathy standing there with the cable in her hands and her other hand on her hip as she gave me a narrow eyes glare.“Faith…” Her voice was dead serious as she fixed me with her ‘look’.“Yes?” I grinned sheepishly.“What day is it today?” She tapped her heeled foot on the tiled floor, her light pink gown reaching her knees, the ski
Chapter 100: To the FutureFaith’s P.O.VInstead of answering me right away, he took the pendant from the trey and went behind me to place it around my neck, securing the clasp behind my back. The cool metal fell around my neck easily, and a sense of nostalgia overwhelmed me as I remembered my mother wearing it all the time. But I wasn’t allowed to dwell on the nostalgia for long since I felt his warm breath fanning my skin before I felt him lean down and place a tender kiss on my shoulder.“I didn’t want to give back the pendant…because when you weren’t with me, when we weren’t together, this was the only thing that connected me to you.” He whispered against my ear, his arms coming around me to wrap around my middle. “I threw it away once…when I thought you were too good to be with me, that I didn’t want to taint you with my darkness…and it was right here, at this very beach. But the waves gave it back to me; almost like it was fate…they didn’t want me to lose the only good thing in
Chapter 99: The PendantFaith’s P.O.VI felt my breath leave my lungs temporarily as I descended down the stairs and there he was…dressed in a black shirt with its sleeves rolled up to his elbow and black dress pants that fit him like a glove. In his hands was a humongous bouquet of red roses that looked bright and luscious, their fragrance filling the air with sweetness that felt almost like a scene out of a movie.I watched his eyes widen slightly as they landed on me, his lips parting in a small gasp, and his eyes, when they met mine, held promises that made my insides quiver with excitement and my heart almost skip a beat.In all honesty…we hadn't been intimate for a long time now, considering how we had both been through so much…but now, looking at him today, I found myself anticipating the end of the night more than the date itself.Maybe we can just forget about the date and just head to his apartment already?Brandon’s lips tilted up in a small smile and it felt like he knew e
Chapter 98: The First DateFaith’s P.O.V“Finally! Exams are over!” Nik threw her hands up in the air as she did a little ‘happy dance’ before turning to Debby and me. “Let’s go out this evening!”“Go out? Where?” I asked, raising my eyebrows skeptically.Usually, Nik’s idea of going out wasn’t the best of plans. The last time we went out together, not only did she get the wrong address, but we were thrown out of the club since none of us had fake IDs and we weren’t allowed in unless we were twenty one. Now, I watched as Debby nodded enthusiastically to Nik’s proposal, ever the supportive girlfriend…even though I was starting to worry about what trouble they were going to get into this time.“Leave me out.” I sighed, walking down the stairs to join them at the courtyard. “I’ll be heading home first.”“Why? Do you have plans already?” Debby smirked with a knowing look in her eyes.“I do.” I nodded, laughing at her expression. “Brandon asked me out on a date.”“Oh! Really!” Nik looked a
Chapter 97: A New BeginningFaith’s P.O.V“Good morning!”Startled, I looked towards the door to see Ethan poking his head in with a wide grin on his face. “How have you been?”“Ethan!” I smiled at his presence, glad to see him. “It’s good to see you. I’m getting discharged today.”“Yup. Just heard the reception discussing that.” He came forwards to stand beside the bed, where I sat already dressed in casual clothing, ready for the nurses to take me out as soon as Brandon was done with the paperwork. “How are you? Bran told me everything…about what happened yesterday.”I nodded, sad that everything had to come to this. “I’m glad everything is over now.” I told him. “And I can start over from scratch. It’s all a new beginning for all of us.”Ethan gave me a look that said that even though it was a new beginning for some of us…there were still lingering feelings left.“At least I still get to be friends with you.” He finally said with a sigh. “But if Brandon treats you bad again…I will
Chapter 96: ForgivenessFaith’s P.O.VBrandon and I faced Julia alone, Scott deciding to wait outside for the time being.Even though I wanted Brandon beside me, I didn’t show it. Neither did I tell him. Instead, I watched him take a seat on one of the couches on the opposite side of the room, far from me and Julia.I knew he was giving us space, letting me and her settle our differences. It was what was most important. But at the same time, I couldn’t help but miss his presence, his support. No matter how brave of a front I put up…I was still worried about what had transpired between him and Julia at her house.“Thank you…” Julia told me now, her eyes appearing haunted as she looked up at me tiredly. “For not complaining against me…even after everything I did…”I saw tears well up in her eyes as she swallowed hard, her emotions clearly all over the place. “Why? Why did you help me? I’ve been the shittiest person to you…I’ve bullied you, spoke badly about you…tried to steal Brandon aw
