I almost burst into laughter, but pulled myself together. My hearing must have developed a fault overnight, is he even aware of what he’s just proposed? Before I could finish, I saw my mother's shadow looming over the second floor of the house. Panic seized my chest and I felt a surge of adrenaline as I threw the car keys at Natalie and took off down the road, Jordan’s hand in mine.

My heart was racing as I ran, terrified of what Mom might do if she had caught even a small glimpse of us and me skipping the already scheduled therapy appointment.
