Nora called Priya. She didn't think about it first. She just did it.

Priya picked up on the second ring. "It's two in the morning."

"Someone sent me a photo of Sutton Women's Health. My clinic. Ten minutes ago. Unknown number."

"What did it say."

"Good doctor. Careful with your file this time."

Priya didn't say anything for a second. Then she said send it to her. Nora forwarded the photo and the message and held the phone to her ear, waiting.

"Okay," Priya said. "Give me a minute."

Nora waited

  • The Barren Wife's Revenge    THE WHISTLEBLOWER

Nora drove for two hours. She did not know where she was going. She just drove. The streets were empty. The sky went from black to gray to pale yellow. She parked near a diner and watched the sun come up. Her phone charged in the cupholder. She thought about the spreadsheet. Twelve families. Twenty women. Seven years. She memorized the names. At six forty-five, she drove back to the laundromat. The sign was still dark. The lot was empty. She sat in her car and waited.Marcus arrived at seven exactly. He drove a gray sedan. He parked two spaces away. He walked to her car. He looked like he had not slept."Show me," he said.Nora got out. She opened the trunk. She spread the evidence across the flat metal surface. The photographs. The spreadsheet. The access logs. The email chains.Marcus studied the photographs. He did not speak for a long time."This is Petrov," he said."Yes.""And this is Constance.""Yes.""And this is Adrian.""Yes."Marcus picked up the spreadsheet. He read the n

  • The Barren Wife's Revenge    The Priya Move

Nora called Priya again. Priya picked up before the first ring finished."She's not answering," Nora said. "I got a text from her number. It wasn't her. Then I asked a yes or no question and got three dots and nothing after.""Read me the text exact. Word for word.""Everything's fine. Sorry for the confusion. Long night, that's all.""Read it again."Nora read it again, slower this time, in case Priya had missed a word the first time."That's not how she talks.""I know that. You don't know her. You've never met her.""I don't need to know her. Nobody her age writes long night, that's all in a text message to a friend. That's how a fifty year old woman writes a text. That's how Constance would write a text if she wanted it to sound casual and didn't know how."Nora hadn't thought of it that way, and hearing it out loud made her stomach turn in a way the message alone hadn't managed."So what do I do with that.""You don't call again. Calling again just tells whoever's holding the pho

  • The Barren Wife's Revenge    The Police

Nora dialed 911. Her hands weren't steady. She noticed that and kept dialing anyway."911, what's your emergency.""I need someone sent to a house. Right now. There's a man inside who shouldn't be there, and the woman who lives there stopped answering her phone in the middle of a call.""Can you give me the address."Nora gave it. The dispatcher asked her to repeat it, slower. Nora repeated it, spelling the street name the second time because the dispatcher didn't catch it the first."And you're not at that address currently.""No. I'm two miles away. I was on the phone with her when it happened.""What's your relationship to the resident."Nora paused. "It's complicated.""I need something simpler than that, ma'am.""Her husband is my ex-husband. We got divorced this week. I'm not on any paperwork for that house anymore. I don't live there. I was calling to warn her about something, and a man's voice answered her phone instead of her, and then the call ended.""What did the man say."

  • The Barren Wife's Revenge    The Warning

"Somebody has to know," Nora said. "Someone in that house needs to know there's a stranger in it right now.""Call Constance," Priya said. "She's the one still there.""She might be the one who let them in.""She might not. You don't know either way.""I don't." Nora stood up from the plastic chair. Her legs had gone stiff from sitting so long, and her feet felt worse than her legs did, worse than they had all night. "If I call her and she's the one who hired Sentinel, I just told her I'm onto her. If I don't call her and someone's actually in that house to hurt her, that's on me too.""So call someone else.""Vivian.""You trust her.""I don't know if I trust her. I know she stood in a doorway tonight and told Constance no." Nora was already scrolling for the number. "That's more than I've gotten from anyone else in that family in five years.""Six weeks," Priya said. "Not five years.""Feels like five years.""You've got Vivian's number saved.""From the badge system pull. I wasn't

  • The Barren Wife's Revenge    The Watcher

Nora called Priya. She didn't think about it first. She just did it.Priya picked up on the second ring. "It's two in the morning.""Someone sent me a photo of Sutton Women's Health. My clinic. Ten minutes ago. Unknown number.""What did it say.""Good doctor. Careful with your file this time."Priya didn't say anything for a second. Then she said send it to her. Nora forwarded the photo and the message and held the phone to her ear, waiting."Okay," Priya said. "Give me a minute."Nora waited longer than a minute. A machine across the room buzzed and stopped. Nobody came to get the clothes out of it. The plastic chair under her still had the same crack it had last time, the same tape gone yellow at the edges."There's metadata," Priya said. "People forget photos carry it. Location, device model, sometimes the account it synced from if the phone's set up wrong.""And?""GPS puts the phone across the street from the clinic. That matches. Device is a company phone, not a personal one. I

  • The Barren Wife's Revenge    The Choice

Constance put the phone face down on the desk. Nobody said anything for a second. Then Vivian asked what it meant and nobody answered that either. The desk lamp buzzed faintly, a sound Nora hadn't noticed until the room went quiet enough to hear it."It means he's not waiting until Friday," Constance said. "It means he already told the board tonight.""Tonight," Vivian repeated. She said it a second time, quieter.Nora sat down in the chair across from the desk. She hadn't meant to sit. Her legs just stopped holding her up the normal way and the chair happened to be there."There's a way to stop this," Constance said. "A prenatal paternity test. They can do it from a blood draw now, no needle near the baby at all, and you're far enough along that a lab can process it. Whitmore, the trust's own counsel, not Whitfield, can get a court order to expedite results by morning, before the board meets. If it's on record before Desmond's people walk in, the extension is automatic. No vote neede
