Chapter 27: Blood And Horror

Nesta’s POV:

I woke up to the sound of the front door opening.

"Devon?" I croaked out sleepily, my hands clutching the sheets, but he was already gone. The door was shut and the side of the bed where he had slept was empty.

I cursed as I jumped out of the bed and pulled out the gun from under it, where I had slipped it last night.

I opened the door and dashed out, my bare feet landing on the scuffed carpet as I padded down it and noticed a faint orange light illuminating the staircase. It was dawn and where the hell was Devon going out at this time of the morning?

My feet moved silently down the stairs, the gun still held securely in my outstretched arm. I rushed down faster as I caught his scent and burst into the crowded hall below. My nose wrinkled as I tried not to gag, the room was stifling with creatures of night who bustled about for their breakfast.
