Chapter 3: Attacked.

Who could be coming to see her at this time of night?

So, Ciara carefully peered through the peephole. It was the police officer who had been following her for several days.

As it was already late at night and Ciara did not know why Officer Harris was there, she had no intention of opening the door. She stood inside and asked from behind the door, "It's so late, Officer Harris. What brings you here?"

"Oh... We were just chasing a deranged werewolf who was attacking people in the nearby area due to the full moon. I was worried about your safety, so I came to investigate. If it's okay with you, may I come inside and check if he's hiding in there?" Officer Harris explained from behind the door.

Lie!

Ciara thought to herself.

If there was an attack by non-human beings on humans, there would have been a commotion, and people would have rushed outside to see it since early on.

Therefore, it could not be so quiet like it was at the moment.

"Right now, I am perfectly fine, and there are no signs of a break-in at my house. You do not need to worry. On the contrary, it's late now, and I think you should go back home."

The words that need to be said have been made clear. If that police officer still stubbornly stays, then Ciara has no choice but to call his colleague to come and take him away.

When Ciara planned to turn away from the door, she heard a sound of breaking glass.

It was the living room window.

Before Ciara could collect herself, a supernatural force appeared and threw her a distance away, slamming her straight into the wall.

The pain left Ciara feeling dizzy, and to make matters worse, she had dislocated her shoulder from the impact just now.

"Wouldn't it be better for you to obediently listen to me from the beginning?"

Ciara saw a pair of feet stopping right in front of her. She looked up, it was Officer Harris.

"This is considered breaking and entering, aren't you afraid I'll sue you?" Ciara said with difficulty, her pain-wracked face creasing even more from the shoulder injury.

"I'm afraid so." Officer Harris knelt down in front of her, smiling gently. "But I doubt you'll have the chance to sue."

His face changed immediately after he finished speaking. From a calm expression, it turned into one of madness. He smiled a chilling smile and Ciara could even see the greed and bloodlust in his eyes.

Afterwards, Ciara found it extremely difficult to breathe. Officer Harris used his hands to tighten around her neck.

Ciara struggled frantically, using her fingernails to dig into Officer Harris's hands in hopes that he would feel pain and release her. But obviously, it was futile.

Not only that, Ciara continuously kicked him, but Harris, the police officer, remained motionless like a statue. In return, Ciara's neck was even more tightly squeezed by him, to the point that it was possible to see the green veins popping up on her arm as hard as the steel bars of the police officer.

The feeling of being deprived of oxygen made Ciara's mind go dark, and tears flowed out of her instinctively. Ciara almost didn't feel anything anymore, her body as if it were no longer hers.

"This smells great!"

In the midst of chaos, Ciara heard police officer Harris suddenly utter those words. She struggled to open her bleary eyes and saw him revealing an uncontrollable craving. He pressed his nose against Ciara's body and crazily sniffed, repeatedly saying those words without stopping.

"I have been patient for a long time, and finally, I have waited."

Ciara hates being touched at such a close distance, and she continues to exert the little remaining strength to resist.

But she doesn't have to handle it alone, someone has come to help her.

While Ciara thought she would lose her life right there, suddenly a gust of wind swept across her face. Then Ciara felt the grip around her neck disappear and finally, a loud bang sounded right next to her ear. Because of the sudden rush of air into her trachea after a period of breathing difficulty, Ciara couldn't adapt in time and coughed continuously.

One of her hands held onto her throat, while the other supported herself to prevent her body from falling to the ground.

A scream sounded right next to Ciara's ear, causing her to struggle to turn her head towards the right. The sight in front of her made her stunned.

Due to the lack of oxygen earlier, Ciara couldn't fully see the shape of Officer Harris. Now she looks and feels truly terrified.

Officer Harris's head was already much larger than an average person, but now it has swollen to twice its size. The skull with a disfigured shape also began to protrude upwards like there was a malignant tumor attached to the top of his head.

Moreover, that tumor tends to swell even more, making the body smaller than the head unable to maintain its balance and staggering underfoot.

The swollen head caused the skin on Officer Harris's face to stretch and pull up, making his entire face look like someone was peeling it from bottom to top. The eyes in the sockets seemed to be about to fall out under the pressure of the tumor on his head.

Ciara couldn't recognize what species Officer Harris belonged to, as if he was a defective product created by nature.

However, she didn't have time to be frightened because there was another person present in her house.

"Are you okay?"

An arm reached out in front of Ciara's face, and its owner was definitely someone she couldn't be unfamiliar with.

Enda.

Ciara hesitantly looked at the hand in front of her. Just now, she had escaped from the grip of Officer Harris with the help of Enda. But she couldn't understand why he was here at this moment, just when Ciara was about to meet death?

As Enda seemed to notice Ciara's hesitation, he withdrew his hand. His eyes shifted from her towards Officer Harris.

In an instant, Ciara saw the existing disgust in Enda's eyes. But then it disappeared immediately.

Did she see it wrong?

Enda said nothing, he walked step by step closer to Harris. It seemed that Harris realized that the person in front of him was not simple at all, even could kill him in a split second, so Harris couldn't help but instinctively retreat back.

This name is definitely here to compete with him for the goods.

Realizing the situation was not good, Harris the police officer tried to force a smile and appear friendly, but his grim appearance couldn't do that. He spoke in a gruff voice: "Do you also want to take that girl? Or how about this, let's not fight each other but cooperate. Anyway, if we fight, there will definitely be casualties."

"That's right."

Enda stopped in his tracks. Harris the police officer saw that he seemed to hesitate, so he breathed a sigh of relief. But unexpectedly, Enda's next sentence made him change his expression.

"But I don't want to share."

As soon as Enda finished speaking, Ciara felt her hair flutter in the air. When she regained her composure, she saw that with just one move, Enda had completely subdued the police officer Harris and pinned him down on the ground.

As Ciara paid close attention, she noticed Enda's fingernails suddenly turned into sharp iron claws. Each hard nail pierced straight into the skin on the head of the police officer Harris. The pain made him scream non-stop.

However, despite the plea of the police officer Harris, Enda did not loosen his grip at all. On the contrary, he increased the strength in his hand.

Ciara felt that the next scene was something she shouldn't watch, so she turned her head away, making her ears more sensitive than ever before.

She could clearly hear the sound of flesh being pierced, and even a squealing sound as if the nails had hit the skull.

No more sound was heard, and the space was drowned in a terrifying silence. Without turning her head, Ciara could guess what had happened.

Suddenly, Ciara heard footsteps approaching, and in no time, a pair of white shoes covered in tiny bloodstains appeared in front of her.

"Are you okay?"

Enda held out his hand in front of Ciara. Seeing the hand in front of her, Ciara did not hesitate to grab it and follow Enda's pull to stand up straight.

She brushed off her clothes and said, "I'm okay, thank you for saving me."

"It's what should be done." he replied.

Now Ciara has had time to calm down after what just happened. She gently rubbed her neck. The pain was now much less intense than before.

When Ciara looked at the body of the police officer Harris, she suddenly felt that she was about to face a big problem. If someone discovered a dead person in her house, let alone a police officer, she would have to explain a lot.

It seems that Enda could see what Ciara was thinking, so he said:

"Don't worry, it will disappear on its own."

"What?"

Before Ciara could understand what Enda meant by his words, the next scene caught her attention.

The motionless body on the floor suddenly burst into flames. Strangely enough, the fire did not spread to any surrounding objects. It only engulfed the body of the police officer Harris.

In less than a minute, the person who was alive just moments ago had turned to ashes before Ciara's eyes.

Enda walked over to the nearby window and opened it wide. Immediately, the pile of ashes seemed to be controlled by someone, flying up into the sky in the direction of the open window and disappearing into the air without a trace. Only on the floor remained scorch marks and the smell of burnt ash lingering in the air.

Just that was enough to remind Ciara that what had just happened was real and not her imagination.

Currently, in this house, there are still two beings present - one human and one non-human.

"Do you have any questions?" Enda was the first to speak.

"Um..." Ciara hesitated, then asked her question: "Can I go to bed now?"

Another silence fell...

Enda stood still for a few seconds, slightly surprised by this question. He thought Ciara would ask questions like "What just happened?" or "Who are you and what was the thing you just killed?". He didn't expect her to only care about whether she could go to bed now or not.

What kind of person has such a strong nerve to be so unfeeling?

Ciara is not entirely indifferent, but to be honest, she now feels her head heavy and could collapse somewhere to sleep for a while.

"Are you sure you can sleep here?" Enda asked in return.

That seems right.

Ciara looked around the house, which seemed like it had just gone through a storm. The tables and chairs were scattered all over the place, each in a different position, some even broken. The doors and cabinets were also smashed and everything was in chaos.

Not to mention that the walls of the house showed signs of crumbling as well.

A once tidy house has now become a mess.

But the upstairs is still okay, it should be able to withstand tonight.

"I don't think it's possible, now you can't live peacefully like before." Enda interrupted Ciara's thoughts, and continued saying: "Tonight's events were enough for you to understand, right?"

Now Ciara asked the most important question: "What is going on?"

"I will explain later, for now we should leave this place." Enda walked straight to the front door, and continued saying the remaining sentence: "You should take the most important thing with you, don't bother about clothes or other trivial things. I'll be waiting for you outside."

Ciara was about to say that she didn't have anything important, but she suddenly remembered her mother's jewelry box. She hurriedly ran upstairs, opened the closet, and took it, also grabbing the only picture frame of her mother. Oh, she also brought her wallet and phone along.

Ciara also took her land and property documents, which she could sell in the future to get money if needed.

Ciara took a quick look at the room where she had lived for so long. Honestly, she didn't feel much attachment to it. The place that used to make her feel that way had been destroyed long ago.

Ciara quickly put everything into her backpack and went downstairs. Enda leaned against the wall, waiting for her. When he saw Ciara coming out, he stood up straight and said:

"Let's go."

Ciara looked around and asked curiously, "Aren't we taking a car?"

"Who said we were traveling by car?"

Suddenly, everything went dark in front of Ciara, and the light from the street lamps shone into her eyes. A pair of wings were slowly spreading out, and they were so close that Ciara could see every detail on them.

She could see each individual feather and the softness of it. It was truly beautiful, like the wings of an angel.

Enda turned around and said the remaining sentence:

"We will fly."

Ciara frowned. Every cell in her body was screaming against the idea of traveling in such a way, so she asked, "Can I refuse?"

In response, Enda flashed a brighter-than-flower smile at her.

"No, you can't."
