Everleigh was left in bewilderment. Her life was turned upside down in a matter of minutes because of the revelation. She knew a little about Rufus; Rujan spoke of him in a limited way, and she didn’t pry, though the animosity between the two of them was obvious.
Rufus was famous in the business world, and he was on the front cover of the famous magazine last year and was interviewed a few times. Seeing him in person was different. His personality was striking and intimidating.
The business world considered him ruthless in his dealings. Some articles even insinuate that his other resources came from the underworld. Though the world knew that the Griswolds were ancient with old money, she went to the balcony and watched her boys play with their father on the field. They were happy and carefree. She never saw them this happy. They were always cautious, and they matured at an early age. Her heart breaks when she realizes how much they missed in their lives. Kids are supposed to be playing all the time and with their parents all the time. But Rujan was always out because of work.
Again, the realization hit her: Why was Rufus claiming that they had a relationship before? Why did Rujan lie about it? She remembered her family, but she can’t remember anything about them. Rujan told her that she has a father and a married younger sister. He also explained the risk of seeing them, and now that she was here, she wanted to meet her family.
If Rufus was telling the truth, she has all the reason to hate Rujan. She touched her chest; she couldn’t feel any hatred towards him. Rujan was with her through her ups and downs. She needed some explanation from him.
Besides, she happened to know Rujan’s secret. He saved her and the boys many times when the enemies appeared. She didn’t even know who the enemy was. They were hiding these past years and learned not to trust anyone.
Right, she can’t trust Rufus. She can’t believe what he said. He’s a cold businessman, and he worked for his advantage. She also can’t deny the fact that she needed his protection. She will play along with him and investigate. All she wanted was to live a normal life with her boys and Rujan.
Rufus looked up and saw her standing on the balcony, watching them. He grinned, but it was immediately replaced by a scowl and a loud growl. She frowned. Why had he changed his expression so suddenly? She noticed security personnel who were watching them also looked at her. Rufus’ gaze went to her body, and she gasped when she realized she was only wearing a flimsy nightgown Rufus chose for her.
She immediately turned and went back inside. Her heart was beating so fast, and she decided to go to the room assigned to her. She found Sonya cleaning her room. She wanted to confirm something.
“Is this my old room?" She asked, looking at the expensive clothes and bags in the closet.
Sonya’s eyes widened with surprise, but she pretended not to notice it. “How do you? I mean, yes, this is your room.”
“So, Rufus maintained this, hoping that I'd come back?" She asked, fishing for more answers.
“Yes, Alpha maintained everything, even the library and the garden. He meticulously cared for the plants you planted, and he even read books about gardening.”
“Gardening? I never had a chance to plant anything because I was so busy with the boys and from our daily struggle,” she told herself and sighed.
“Did I buy these things?," she asked again, referring to the luxury bags and shoes arranged inside the closet.
“No, Alpha bought these things for you. You only buy rare plants.”
“Did we happen to meet before? ”
“Yes, Lu... I mean yes, but I was in college at the time and someone was assisting you,” she said, and she frowned when she mentioned it.
“Is that someone here? ”
“No, Alpha kicked her out and punished her family for neglecting you.”
“That was harsh! ," she exclaimed. Sonya frowned, as if objecting to her comment.
“Did you go to college?" Why are you here, then? ”
Sonya smiled. “My ancestors have been working with Alpha’s family for centuries, and I am happy working with him. He’s generous and kind.”
She raised her brow at her; what she said was the opposite of her opinion of him. Then she suddenly felt sad. “Rujan said I was in college when I got pregnant and didn’t have the chance to graduate.”
“You can go back to school. Alpha owned the community college here.”
“I don’t think that will be my priority for now. I have kids, and I need to work for their education.”
Sonya gasped in disbelief. “You don’t need to work. Alpha will provide for all of you. He provided for all of us.”
“The boys will go to school tomorrow, and so will you. I already talked to the school director to let you know since you were a sophomore when you left.” Rujan interrupted them to their surprise.
“You can’t decide something big like that for us! ”she said angrily.
“I can decide everything about you and your future, Everleigh. I want you and my boys to live a normal life. You’ve been living like a rat for the past years, thanks to my hell of a brother.”
“You’re such a despicable person! You never respected me. You don’t own me! ", she said angrily. She was about to turn, but she swayed a little. Rufus was already beside her and scooped her.
“You and the kids are important to me, baby; remember that. Don’t fight me; I just granted your heart’s desire. You were great in school. You got high grades, and your professors were all singing praise for you. You are also famous with boys.” He growled when he mentioned it.
“I don’t remember anything about it or about you except that your smell was familiar.”
"That is because I am your mate,” he said, grinning and looking satisfied. “Now, let’s see our excited boys plan on you and them going to school tomorrow.”
"This is too much, Rufus," she protested lamely.
"Nothing is too much for you, baby. Let me pamper you. Leave everything to me."
"Why did I leave you, Rufus? Did you do something that made me leave you?
“We cannot tell the boys about you; they’ll get confused. They’re too young to understand our complicated relationship. They grew up with Rujan, and he was such a good father to them,” she said as she inspected the DNA test result. She asked him after they tucked the triplets into bed. “You underestimated our children, baby, but I’ll go with your plan. I don’t want to pressure you right now. I already have their affection. My alpha blood is stronger than anyone.” “What's with the alpha thing? Are you some kind of cult leader? " She gasped as her imagination ran wild and connected it to the thriller movies she watched. Rufus chuckled at her absurdity. “What are you thinking? Tell me I could handle it even if it was the most absurd thing I’d hear.” “I’m thinking about blood sacrifices,” she answered. Rufus laughed again, and Whitton looked at them as if he were pleased that his master was laughing. “That was awful, but we hold ceremonial mating here. It was our tradition for centu
“Why are you here? Are you not feeling well? ”Rufus asked as he touched her forehead. She just shook her head and ignored him. “Your father and your sister left. They promised to visit you again,” he said. “He’s not my real father; he’s my stepfather, and Amelia is my younger half-sister. Why didn't you tell me such an important thing? ", she accused. “Because Edward may not be your father, but you loved him, and he adored you like a real father. You loved Amelia too, in fact...” He stopped and frowned. “How did you know this? Did you happen to recall some of your memories? ” “Yes,” she lied. “Amelia was the one for you, not me. I don’t understand why we had a relationship before if you like Amelia. ” “What are you talking about? ” “I ran away because you cheated on me,” she concluded, looking at his eyes directly to confirm what she had said. Rufus didn’t say a word; he just looked at her with this familiar look on his face. He was like Rujan when he wasn't telling the truth and
Everleigh dreamed of sending her children to school, but she didn’t expect that she would also come back to school. The boys were very excited. They woke up early and prepared their things for school. Rufus didn’t miss the opportunity to help them get their things done and assist them with their breakfast. She let him; she could see the joy in his face while helping them. She chose to wear cream slacks and a shirt. They looked like a happy family together. A limo was parked in the front yard, waiting for them. She saw three black luxury cars parked behind the limo. The boys were well behaved during the 15-minute drive to their school. Rufus took her hand and raised his brow when he noticed it was cold. She was nervous. He didn’t say a word, but was surprised when he pulled her close to him and kissed her temple.“Everything will be okay, baby, trust me.” She just nodded and made a deep sigh. The security opened the door for them, and she was surprised when the director, faculty, and s
Everleigh watched the expression played on her ex-boyfriend; she didn’t even know the name. He wasn’t afraid of Rufus, like everyone she met. Why? He has a devil-may-care attitude and a stellar smile. Vikings have gold hair, a hawkish nose, and fair skin. This person in front of them appeared to be one. She could feel his similar personality with Rujan. So, this is the kind of man she preferred before? She asked herself silently, but she was cut off harshly when Rufus glared at her. “I’m sorry, but I needed to be in class,” she said, smiling awkwardly. “Yes, see you there,” the man said, winking at her and nodding at Rufus once again before he left. She wanted to know the name of her ex-boyfriend, but Rufus was in a black mood. “I’ll send you to your class,” Rufus offered again. “I can manage myself,” she insisted. "You were just out of my sight for a minute, and I found you in the arms of another man,” he growled. “I was taken aback; I didn’t even know the name of the man who h
Everleigh was suddenly left alone. She stood, leaning on the wall, because she felt that her knees would buckle any minute. It was very obvious that Rufus was possessive. She ran away from him because she was suffocated by his possessiveness. She slowly walked towards the chair and sat there, confused by her emotion and her body’s reaction toward Rufus’ touch. Her classmates started to come in. She was relieved and, at the same time, nervous. They were only ten in their class, and she was the only female. She was introduced by their professors, and not one of them dared gaze at her openly, as if it were a sin to look at her. She wanted to have friends, but how? Rufus would turn into a raging wolf if she made friends with them and didn’t like it. To her surprise, the knowledge flowed into her mind as if she knew it. One more class before lunch, and she was again surprised when her ex-boyfriend came in. He looked at her, and he quirked his lips upon seeing her sitting in front. “For
Everleigh stepped into Rufus' office in awe. Cutting-edge technology impeccably merges with elegant design. He was sitting on his desk, equipped with touch-sensitive surfaces, holographic displays, and integrated charging stations. The boys were sleeping sprawled on the huge couch, their toys scattered on the carpeted floor. He was reading some files and didn’t look up, but he knew she was there. The office has voice-activated assistants, smart climate control, and augmented reality conferencing systems that transform the office into a command center of innovation. It looks like his office is proof of staying ahead in the digital age, where technology becomes a continuous extension of control. How did she know these things? Among other things she saw in Moon Valley, this office seemed familiar to her. Why? Rufus looked at her intently. She wanted to ask about this office. “How’s the boys? ” Different words came out of her lips.“They’re tired, and I told them to go to sleep. They wer
Everleigh was shocked and learned about Mark’s cheating. “That was disgusting!" She whispered back. She tried to feel herself, but she felt nothing about the news. One thing she knew was that she was interested and curious. Maybe what she learned right now will help her find some memories hidden inside her mind. “How did I manage it? And who is the other party? ” “You felt relieved, I think.” “Relieve? Why? ” “You kept it a secret and even made friends with the cheater and his lover,” he said. “What?” If she had feelings for Mark, she would never do it. She felt shocked by the revelation; it seemed that the person she knew within her was a total stranger. They were both whispering to each other; their faces were so closed that they didn’t notice someone in front of them. They looked, and both were surprised when they saw Mark looking at them, amused. “May I join you, Mr. Guevarra? Ms. Hearst? Or would I say Mrs. Griswold?” He sat on the chair in front of them. She felt awkward
“I didn’t treat you like a slave, well, maybe for some short period of time,” Rufus answered. Everleigh was not convinced; she knew Rufus was hiding something from her. “Where are we going?" She asked when she noticed that he turned left instead of going straight to the castle. “I already mentioned that Amelia and your dad brought the kids home. What I mean was that your home before,” he said. Home? She was curious about her home before. She spent most of her childhood there. She hoped that her memories would return when she got to see her home. “Why didn't you tell me that my home is closer to your home? I think we’ll move to my father’s house. It’s not proper to be with you when I married your brother.” “I don’t care about propriety, Everleigh. You’ll stay with me. My brother entrusted you to me. He has reasons. Your father can’t protect you. What if your enemies hurt your father and your sister’s family? Why do you think Rujan didn’t ‘tell you about them? ” She sighed. He has
