*TRIGGER WARNING*

*Melody’s POV*

I fidgeted as I waited for the boss asšhole to show up. What the hell did he even want with me anyway? I was being good. I wasn’t getting into any trouble just so I wouldn’t have to see him again.

I felt sweat trickle down my neck as my body heated further. I was hoping to feel better by now, but I felt worse by the second. I just had to fake it until I made it, because there was no way in hell that I would let them kill me. I had to live for Bianca and for Vanessa.

I looked at my red see-through bodice that I was wearing and shivered. I felt exposed and I didn’t want to imagine how many men were going to see me like this later tonight.

I stood up abruptly and began pacing the space that I had become familiar with as I hugged my body with my now extremely thin arms. I was nervous, to say the least. Well, nervous was really an understatement.

Goddess, I wish I could talk to my wolf. I was going crazy without her. I can comprehend now why people w

  • The Beta's Bet   20 | Chaos

*Axel’s POV* A low growl rolled through the blackened woods, swallowed quickly by the wind and the pounding rain. The forest groaned under the weight of the storm—branches lashed, leaves tore, and the earth softened into mud. Dash’s paws ripped through the ground as we made our way through the forest. A streak of motion caught our attention. They were closing in on us. Wolves burst between trees, lightning flashing overhead. Through the overwhelming smells, I smelled her. Almond and coffee with a hint of—blood. Dash sped up, our heart racing—desperate to find her. Water streamed from the draping branches before crashing into Dash’s midnight black fur. Our muscles coiled and exploded with each stride, claws slipping but gripping where they could.Through the pouring rain, I could see her. Defenseless and lying on the ground. Wolves circling in. The forest became a blur: trunks like looming ghosts, roots like traps. Dash was at her side in a heartbeat, teeth baring, a growl ripping

  • The Beta's Bet   19 | Silver Frost

*Axel’s POV* “What do you mean that they want to take her home?” I blurted out, not needing to mind link anymore. Goddess, I didn't want a mate, but they couldn’t just take her when we hadn't even rejected each other. “Beta Axel, I understand your position, but we have to understand theirs as well. She was next in line for the beta position when she disappeared. Her father was devastated.” He lifted his hand as I was getting ready to interrupt him. “I haven’t given them the approval to take her just yet. Ultimately, it will be her decision.”Her decision should be to be with her mate. At least until we break the bond. “It may be good for her,” the prince added before placing a hand on my shoulder. “What if they were the ones that sold her out? Have you considered that?” I questioned them. “That they willingly sold her or something.”The thought actually crossed my mind several days ago, but I was going to look into my theory when she had woken up, considering my wolf would get anxi

  • The Beta's Bet   18 | The Evil Queen

*Axel’s POV* I was pacing in front of the bed, emotions all over the place. Confused because how in the goddess’ name was there wolfsbane in Melody’s system. Angry, well, because my wolf was angry at the whole situation, and it was transferring to me. Tense because I was waiting for the king to call me regarding the investigation he put in place after this incident. At least the doctors managed to stabilize her. They blocked off this room for visitors too. Not that many people have visited her, considering we were holding off on informing her pack until we had further information.I ran my fingers through my hair just as the door opened. I looked up to find Gael walking towards me. “How is she?” He asked with a chin motion that signaled he was referring to Melody. “Stable,” I muttered, briefly looking towards her. For some odd reason, I couldn’t bear look at her. I felt… I shook my head before returning my attention to Gael. “The king wants to see you. He said he needs to discuss

  • The Beta's Bet   17 | Overpowering Emotions

*Axel’s POV*I cracked my stiff neck in a sad attempt to relieve it from its ache. My tired eyes drifted to the window to find the sun rising yet again. I sighed before leaning my head against the stone-cold wall. “We need to continue with our duties, Dash.”“But Mate—”“Our mate will be fine. There hasn’t been any change in the past week and our lack of training, eating, or even breathing natural air is only making us lose years of training. She doesn’t need a weak mate.” I’m still not on board with accepting a mate, but I need him on my side if I want to get our strength back faster. A mad wolf is like having no wolf at all. “Fine,” he muttered reluctantly. “But I want to come back here tonight.” I groaned as I stood straight and rolled my shoulders. There was a soft tap on the door before it creaked open. “Sorry to wake you, Beta.” One of the nurses said softly as she walked towards our mate… I mean Melody. The more I get that into my head, the more I can avoid this damn bond.

  • The Beta's Bet   16 | Damages

*POTENTIAL TRIGGER**Axel’s POV*With a deep breath, I reached for the door, not caring one bit about the potential dangers behind it. I could feel the room being filled after the commotion I caused as I twisted the handle. But I couldn’t focus on anything other than finding out if my mate was behind that door. Goddess, I hope on everything that she was.I yanked the door back, immediately overwhelmed by the mixed scents. My mate’s was obviously the strongest, overpowering the thought of exploring the reason all the scents lingered behind in this obviously small closet. My feet moved forward on their own accord, desperate to find any evidence, my mate hidden, even another hidden door.It was a dark and small closet space, but my werewolf sight allowed me to move inside while I ripped clothes side to side. I had barely registered the prince joining me in my search before he started pulling the hangers right off the rod. He seemed just as desperate as me to get to the bottom of everythi

  • The Beta's Bet   15 | Blinding Rage

*POTENTIAL TRIGGER* *Melody’s POV* I had no clue where I would go as soon as I walked out of that room. But it wasn’t long before one of the many aggressive men that worked for my captors roughly grabbed my elbow and led me back to where they’d usually kept us. I was both anxious and relieved at the knowledge that I’d be taken back there. Vanessa would most likely be there. But so could the evil queen and her brother… A shiver ran down my spine at the thought just as we entered the secret passage we had walked through earlier. Between the memories of the man that marked me and the stress of going back, I was beginning to feel lightheaded. My legs shook uncontrollably with each step I took, the walls we passed by feeling like they were closing in on us. My pulse quickened, forcing me to take big, greedy gulps of air through my mouth. Oh goddess, I’m about to have a panic attack. “If you don’t move, I’ll let the men that lingered behind get a hold of you. And I promise, they won’t
