CHAPTER TWENTY

MIREYA'S POV

“What... what about it?”

I stammered, my fingers tightening around the pen as it trembled uncontrollably in my hand.

Almost instinctively, I raised my free hand to cover the exposed part of my cleavage, still haunted by the humiliation of last night. My heartbeat refused to calm down as I waited for him to continue.

But Knox didn't seem interested in any of that.

His expression remained as indifferent as ever.

“The rogues have been taken care of,” he said calmly. “Yo

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY-THREEMIREYA'S POVI took the car to where Jason was as my master's words kept playing repeatedly in my mind. “I didn't say he would die immediately, but he would lose everything slowly. Even a mere werewolf will look down on him.” The words flashed through my mind again as I remembered how he had explained how long the poison must have been in Knox's body. It had been ages. The poison could only have been fed to him by someone he trusted, someone who had enough access to get close to him without raising suspicion. Only Jason was trusted by Knox to that extent. I didn't want to suspect him, but I needed to ask questions. How did it get to this extent, and why had no one noticed anything before now? I wiped away my tears as I drove, my hands tightening around the steering wheel whenever another frightening thought crossed my mind. I tried to convince myself that Jason couldn't possibly be involved, but the more I thought about it, the more questions appe

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY-TWOJASON'S POVI made an excuse to leave Knox at the house, telling him I needed to sort some things out at the hospital, even though I didn't have any injury that required treatment. I drove straight to Sasha's apartment instead. I got down from the car and knocked on her door, holding the medicine I had brought for her. I hadn't been able to look after her properly because I had been busy dealing with the mess those stupid rogues had created during the attack, and the thought of leaving her to handle her wounds alone hadn't been sitting well with me. After a few moments, the door opened, and Sasha's eyes widened when she saw me standing there. “Master?” she asked in surprise. “You're not going to invite me in?” I breathed, raising an eyebrow. “I'm sorry, please.” She quickly stepped aside and let me in with an awkward smile. I walked inside and looked around the apartment. “You've got a nice place…” I said slowly, glancing at the scattered clothes

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY-ONEMIREYA'S POVI was able to dodge the attack, even though it was clumsy.“Ahh!” I screamed, jumping out of the chair I had been sitting on. My heart pounded violently against my chest as I stumbled backward and stared at the old man in disbelief. “It's me!” I yelled, raising my hands to show him that I wasn't a threat. The old man looked at me with a sinister smile, completely unfazed by my reaction. He was already aware of who I was, and somehow, the attack itself felt like a punishment for walking into his laboratory without warning. “I know, you brat! There's no way I wouldn't recognize my stubborn student!” he laughed loudly, the sound echoing through the basement. I breathed heavily, my eyes widening as I looked at him. “What? You are still this wicked?” I asked, trying to steady my breathing while glaring at him. He only chuckled as though my reaction amused him. “This is called training, dumbass. I thought you wouldn't remember me again. Sin

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTYMIREYA'S POVI couldn't sleep all night as I stared at Knox while he slept. How could an Alpha lose his sense of smell? Completely? The question kept circling through my mind, refusing to let me rest. I slowly took off his shirt, careful not to wake him. He wasn't bothered because it was me, and he probably thought I was merely looking at his abs, but that wasn't what I was doing. I was searching for any trace of a curse rot, or anything unusual on his body, but there was none. If there was no curse or rot, then how had his health kept deteriorating over the years? With the little knowledge I had of medicine, I decided to investigate further. I carefully wiped one of his wounds, intentionally staining a piece of white fabric with his blood so I could examine it later. I kept my movements quiet and discreet, my mind already racing with possibilities. Something wasn't right, and I couldn't shake the feeling that whatever was wrong with Knox had been deli

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-NINEKARL'S POV“Please, Nancy, just hear me out.” I reached out for her hand, but she stared at me for a while before finally sighing deeply, the tension in her shoulders easing only slightly. “Fine…” she mumbled. I gently led her back to the couch and let her sit before taking the seat beside her, leaving a small space between us. She folded her hands together and kept her gaze lowered for a moment, as though she was preparing herself for whatever explanation I was about to give. “I'm listening, Mr. Quinn,” she said quietly. “Don't call me that…” I shook my head, moving a little closer to her. Hearing the distance in the way she addressed me made my chest tighten. “Anika was my girlfriend before I went into a coma. She was one of my company's executive members' daughters. Our relationship was more of a business arrangement back then because of her father, but there was nothing out of the ordinary between us. Seeing her again after so many years in

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-EIGHTKARL'S POVAfter the attack, I watched Mireya's car disappear into the distance before turning around and walking back to check on someone. Nancy. She was moving slowly, her body covered in blood and dirt from the fight, and I could tell from the way she carried herself that she was having a hard time healing. Her steps were unsteady, and every few seconds, she seemed to wince as though another wave of pain had passed through her body. I walked toward her slowly, trying to calm myself after everything that had happened. I didn't know if I had the courage to face her after what happened at the hospital, but I couldn't simply leave her alone in that condition. "Nan..." I started, but I wasn't even permitted to finish my words before she walked past me without stopping. Her expression was cold, and she deliberately avoided looking in my direction. "Stop acting like this!" I called, reaching out and catching her hand before she could get any fart
