Chapter 1

I clenched the wolf rune necklace I had chosen with such care, the cool metal still warm from my touch as I stood outside the private room.

Today marked the third anniversary of my bond with Chisel. Before leaving home, I had touched the gentle swell of my belly softly in the mirror, full of hope. He’d said there would be a surprise tonight, that he had invited friends to celebrate with us.

But the moment I pushed open the door, everything shattered.

The room was wide and glowing with light that burned my eyes. Chisel was on one knee on the carpet, a velvet box in his hands, smiling at Sylvia.

Around them our packmates had formed a circle, voices rising with laughter and chants:

“Say yes! Say yes!”

“Kiss her, Chisel! Everyone knows Sylvia’s still in your heart!”

Someone called out with mock concern, “Stop teasing—if Luna Leah sees this, she’ll be furious!”

I froze at the threshold. Inside my head Ruby—my wolf—snarled and clawed, her rage echoing through my veins: How dare he betray us!

But I couldn’t even answer her. I could only see Sylvia lowered her lashes, her voice soft as silk:

“Will you?” she murmured, eyes sweeping tenderly over Chisel as she leaned closer. “Leah’s Luna. Obviously, she won’t mind a little fun…”

The chanting rose again. “Chisel, don’t hesitate! You lost the game—this is your chance; you got to kiss!”

Chisel looked at Sylvia with a warmth I had never seen in his eyes for me. His throat bobbed; the distance between them shrank until it felt irresistible.

Just before their lips met, my voice broke out, trembling with fury and heartbreak:

“What the hell are you doing?”

The room went silent. Every head turned toward me, annoyance flickering in their eyes at the ruined scene.

Someone tried to laugh it off. “Don’t be mad, Luna. It’s just a game. You are always gracious.”

“I see.” My heart felt as though it had been ripped in two, but I forced a brittle smile, pretending composure.

Perhaps the shimmer of tears betrayed me. One by one, Chisel’s friends began making excuses to leave.

“I have somewhere to be. Later.”

“Chisel, happy bond anniversary to you and Luna!”

In moments the room emptied, leaving only the three of us.

Chisel’s brow furrowed, his voice laced with irritation. “Enough, Leah. Stop wearing that wounded look. We were just playing a game. I lost, that’s all. Why are you angry?”

I felt as though the air had been knocked out of me. My hand drifted to my belly, feeling the faint pulse there, grounding myself in the reality I still had.

Sylvia stepped closer, still wearing her innocent smile. “Chisel, don’t be angry.”

She patted his shoulder lightly, never once looking at me, as if I had never existed at all.

“What’s up?”My voice was calm, detached, not a ripple in my chest.“Where are you?” His voice cracked with desperation.“Leah, I miss you. Let me come get you, please? I know I was wrong. I never should’ve hurt you over and over again for Sylvia. I know I failed you. Please… forgive me.”Listening to his apology, I almost laughed.“Chisel, there’s nothing left for us to say.” My tone was weary, final.“The words I needed to speak, I already spilled out over the years. As for the bond termination, I’ve left everything with Bert. If you have questions about the contract, ask him. Don’t call me again.”“Can’t you give me one more chance?” His voice broke, thick with tears.“Let me make it right this time, I swear I’ll never see Sylvia again. I’ll cut all ties with her. I’ll take care of you. I’ll repay everything I owe you.”Another vow.I thought back to all his vows these three years —“I’ll spend more time with you.”“I won’t neglect you for Sylvia again.”“I’ll cherish our pup.”Ever

But the pup was already gone —killed by my own hands. The thought slammed into me like a blow. I staggered to my feet, fumbling for my phone.I had to call her.I had to explain, to beg, to tell her I was sorry.I tore through my contacts, scrolling faster and faster.Nothing.The name “Leah” — the one I’d saved, the one that used to glow on my screen — was gone.Panic spread like frost under my skin. I tried to dial from memory, but the only numbers that surfaced in my mind were Sylvia’s. I could punch them in without looking, backwards, forwards — every digit etched into my muscles. But Leah’s?Not a single number. Not one.I called my closest pack brother, my voice ragged.“Do you have Leah’s number? Please—just tell me!”“What the hell, Chisel?” his voice snapped back, sharp and impatient.“She’s your mate. If you don’t even know her number, how would we?”Another voice chimed in from the background.“Yeah, quit messing around. You’re her Alpha, aren’t you? How can you not remembe

“What did you just say?”Sylvia stared at me, disbelief flooding her eyes, tears spilling down her cheeks.“No! That’s impossible! The moment I came back to the Pack, you were at the airport waiting with my favorite red roses. You took me out for candlelight dinners. When I hurt my foot, you didn’t even hesitate to carry me into the hospital. And that night at the restaurant when everyone shouted about Rogues, you saw Leah there but only carried me out—you didn’t even care about the pup in her belly! And now you tell me the one you love is her? This is ridiculous!”Something inside me snapped like a rope under too much strain. In that instant, I finally saw the whole picture. Everything I’d done—every decision—was a blade turned against Leah.I was the one who pushed away the only person who had ever truly loved me.I was the one who killed our pup.And even now, some selfish part of me had still been hoping she might come back.I looked at Sylvia’s crying face and felt nothing—no pity

“It’s pretty serious,” the maid’s voice hesitated on the line. “She’s unconscious and keeps calling your name. We really don’t know what else to do, Mr. Chisel. If you have time, could you come?”I exhaled, long and heavy. In the end, I still couldn’t leave it alone.“I’m on my way.”I hung up, numb, and drove to the hospital, a flicker of doubt still clinging to me—what if Sylvia really was badly hurt? But the moment I opened the door to the hospital room, I froze.Sylvia sat there perfectly fine, swinging her legs off the bed, eating an apple. The instant she saw me, she tossed the apple aside, jumped up and ran to me.“Chisel, you’re here!”I scanned her from head to toe, confusion hardening in my voice.“Weren’t you in a car accident? Why do you look completely fine?”“I was in an accident!” Sylvia pouted, pointing at a tiny bandage on her forehead.“Look. I hit my head. It hurts.”I stared at the tiny patch of gauze, then at the maid’s helpless face, and the truth slammed into me—

Later, I realized my feelings for her had long since changed. When I saw her frown as she forced down the draughts meant to help her conceive, my chest ached for her. When I learned she was carrying our pup, I was so thrilled I couldn’t sleep the entire night. I even whispered to her belly, telling the tiny life inside how much I was waiting for him.I thought everything would move toward the light. But the moment Sylvia returned, I lost all sense.I got used to Leah’s endless forgiveness.Used to her always standing there, waiting for me no matter what I did.So I thought I could hurt her, again and again, without consequence.I always believed—even if I made mistakes—if I turned back, coaxed her, she would forgive me, just like before. But this time… this time, it seems she really won’t.“Alpha, are you all right?”Attorney Bert’s voice pulled me from the storm of my thoughts. He looked at me, pain carved across my face, and frowned.“If you’d known it would come to this, why hurt he

Not long after I finished the cake, my phone buzzed. It was Attorney Bert.“Miss Leah,” he said, “the bond dissolution papers are ready. You can come sign them at any time.”“I’ll be there right away.”I ended the call, left the restaurant, and hailed a cab to the law office.Bert handed me the documents. I read through every line carefully, then signed my name without the slightest hesitation.“Miss Leah,” Bert asked cautiously, “what if Alpha refuses to sign? What if he fights the bond dissolution?”A laugh slipped past my lips—bitter, self-deprecating. “He won’t refuse. He’s probably been waiting for this day, so he can run off to Sylvia openly. But if he does, I’ve prepared other versions of the agreement. One of them, eventually, he’ll accept.”“I understand,” Bert nodded firmly. “I’ll handle it.”With everything settled, I returned home. The house was quiet; Chisel wasn’t back yet.I went to the bedroom and began to pack. The flight to Norway was booked—I’d be leaving first thing
