Chapter Four

Immediately Lucy got home.

After opening the front door of the pent house the sweet aroma of something baking assaulted her senses.

     She traced the aroma to the kitchen and as she guessed she saw Adam busy baking a cake. 

    Deciding to surprise him she walked slowly and hugged his waist from behind.

    Startled Adam almost jumped but recognizing the familiar scent he relaxed.

    " Do you want me dead, uh? " Adam asked teasingly. 

    " No way! why would you say so? " Lucy was confused.

   " You almost gave me a heart attack " Adam accused. 

   " Oh! I am sorry,  I didn't mean to" she replied apologetically 

   " Hey,  don't  be like that,  I was just teasing you " Adam laughed to lighten the atmosphere but seeing Lucy unfazed made him worry as he pulled her into a tight hug

     " What's wrong, sweetie?  " he asked in a caring and doting Tone. 

  " Well, .... it's about Rose, her relationship with Jeremy is not going well and it breaks my heart to see her in such a state " Lucy whispered sadly.

    ''  Everything is gonna be alright, so don't worry too much " Adam assured. 

    " Right, I am sorry I almost forgot that you were busy," Lucy said.

 " True, you can head over to the dining table,  I will be there in ten minutes," Adam said.

" Okay. " Lucy replied.

    Minutes later.

 The duo were eating the Creamy Colored cake Lucy moaned when the cake melted in her mouth as always Adam's cooking was amazing.

    Lucy was so glad to be blessed with such a wonderful life partner. 

     Lucy consumed more than half of the whole cake Adam smiled watching her eating happily.

    After dinner, the duo cuddled on the bed as they soon fell asleep.

 

   While the duo was having a peaceful night Rose on the other hand was having a dreadful night as her eyes were puffy and her hair was a mess due to continuous crying.

      Jeremy just broke up with her, he said that he wants to go back to his ex and so their relationship couldn't continue. 

    Rose was completely heartbroken she cried her heart out.

 Imagining  Jeremy in another woman's arms almost made her suffocate.

     She continued to drench her pillows with tears.

    The next day she looked like a ghost even she couldn't recognize herself.

    She heard her phone ring, seeing it was Lucy calling she picked it up immediately. 

  " Hello Rose,  how are you doing? '' Lucy asked

 " I.... am ....fine .... and you " Rose stuttered finding it impossible to lie to her best friend.

    Hearing her Lucy was worried as she knew that something was wrong.

" Rose what's wrong, are you okay? have you been crying? " Lucy asked

   Composing herself Rose replied  "  I am okay,   don't worry " 

" No you are not, please tell me what's going on? " Lucy pleaded 

   " I ... Jeremy broke up with me! " Rose blurted out 

 " What !!! Lucy Exclaimed Even though she was guessing this would happen she never knew that it will be this soon she was really worried about Rose.

    " Don't worry,  I'll be there in twenty minutes '' Lucy said and hung up 

    Glancing at her phone, Lucy sighed she never expected something like this to happen to her best friend.

   Meanwhile Rose was still in a daze after The call she still couldn't believe that  Jeremy dumped her just like that.

   Didn't he love her at all? or was he just playing her all this while. she wondered 

   "  Why me? ,  why did this have to happen to me? " she sobbed.

Meanwhile, Lucy arrived at Rose's house it was a mini duplex as Rose doesn't like extravagances.

  Lucy always admired her friend because though the latter was rich and Wealthy she was still kind, caring, and loving.

    They had been best friends since high school then Lucy was the black sheep and Was always bullied and stamped on by her mates as she doesn't have the willpower to defend herself.

   The day she first met Rose was a day she would never forget.

   On that particular day, she was being bullied by the school Goddess, Naomi when Rose came out of nowhere and saved her and then dragged her to a secluded spot Where she scolded her.

  " Hey, are you handicapped?  " this was the first question Rose asked her and she was dazed by it.

  She then asked herself,  ' am I handicapped? ' 

  " Hey, are you even listening?  " Rose who was staring intensely at her asked 

  " Yes " she replied 

 " Okay, So back to my previous question, why couldn't you just fight back?  " Rose asked.

  " Eh?  " Lucy was left Speechless. 

  " Am asking a question, can't you give me an answer at least " Rose demanded crossing her arms around her chest.

   Looking up at the girl in front of her, Lucy was speechless because from the way she carried herself and her clothes Lucy could easily tell that she was not from an ordinary family. 

   Lucy was wondering why she comes to save her,  '  aren't all rich people bullies? ' she thought 

  " Will you tell me,  why you are Spacing  out again?  "  Rose asked tugging Lucy's arm.

   " Well,  why did you save me? " Lucy asked curiously 

  " Why? Are you sad I did?  " Rose threw her question back at her. 

  " No, no actually I have been bullied countless times before and there was no one to save me so that's why I'm asking " Lucy explained truthfully 

  " I see, actually I just really wanted to help a damsel in distress not knowing that I would find a friend " Rose replied casually. 

  Lucy was shocked by her bluntness but she waved it away and thought rich people rule the world anyways.

   " So I have told you my reason for saving you,  Can you at least tell me the reason why you are being a coward," Rose said bringing Lucy back to reality.

  "The thing is that I am always scared " Lucy replied.

  " Scared,  why? " To say that Rose was shocked was an understatement, she was wondering why  a teenager  Would be scared of her fellow mates       

     ' That's absurd. '  she thought 

   " Scared of what they would do to me if I fight back " Lucy replied.

"  Oh! All alright,  if you don't mind could you please tell  me the reason for your fear?  " Rose said softly 

   Lucy sighed as she then narrated her story to Rose by the time she was done her stomach growled earning a light Chuckle from Rose.

   

   From that day onwards Lucy and Rose because Best Friends  till now. 

  Lucy would always be grateful to Rose for making her fearless and bold.

   And seeing the same person who she will always be indebted to in a situation like this breaks her heart, She wished she could find  a way to help out
