The sleek black sedan rolled to a smooth stop beneath the covered entrance of the Imperial Regent Hotel.
The moment the chauffeur stepped out to open the rear door, several employees instinctively straightened their posture.
A pair of ivory heels appeared first.
Then, with effortless grace, Selene Laurent stepped onto the polished pavement.
She wore a tailored cream pantsuit that hugged her slender frame perfectly, paired with understated pearl earrings and a silver watch. There was nothing extravagant about her appearance, she didn’t wear makeup or jewelry that screamed luxury, yet she possessed the kind of elegance that naturally commanded attention.
Her long raven hair rested neatly over one shoulder as she adjusted the cuff of her blazer.
Near the entrance, a constipated Adrian Brooks, personal assistant to Lucien Voss was waiting for her. His usually immaculate composure had completely fallen apart with the issue at hand.
“Mrs. Voss—”
Selene continued walking toward the revolving doors without slowing down.
“I know you’re anxious, Adrian. Speak.” She muttered gently.
He swallowed.
“Mr. Voss is on the sixteenth floor.”
She gave a small nod.
“Continue.”
“He… isn’t alone.”
“I assumed as much.”
Adrian blinked.
“The woman with him is Vivienne Hart.”
Selene’s steps remained steady.
“The actress?”
“Yes.”
“The one who has already been linked to three married actors this year?”
“Uhh… Yes.”
“And the media?”
Adrian rubbed the back of his neck. “They’re surrounding the hotel right now.”
“How many?”
“At least fifty reporters.”
She hummed thoughtfully. “More will probably arrive soon.” She glanced toward the hotel entrance before smiling faintly. “Let’s clean this up quickly.”
“…” Adrian stared at her in utter bewilderment.
How is she so calm in a situation like this?
“Also… Mrs. Voss, my intel says Mr. Voss spent the night with Miss Hart.” He added apprehensively, afraid that she might get angry at him.
“I know.”
“You… know?”
“I received fourteen missed calls before lunch.” She entered the lobby.
“My meeting lasted another hour.” She sighed softly. “The calls were distracting.”
Not the affair. The calls.
Adrian didn’t know what unsettled him more.
The issue at hand or the fact that his boss’s wife doesn’t care at all.
“Good afternoon, Miss Laurent.”
Every employee greeted her respectfully.
She simply nodded in acknowledgment.
The greeting made Adrian pause.
Not Mrs. Voss?
Almost no one knew she’d married Lucien a month ago. The ceremony had been private, no cameras, no guests beyond immediate family. Their marriage was clearly not born from love, but from an agreement between two powerful families.
Selene had accepted it because it had been her grandmother’s final wish.
She had never expected Lucien to love her in the first place.
She had only expected him not to make her life more difficult.
The ride to the sixteenth floor was painfully silent.
Adrian stole another glance at her. No matter how he thought about it. He couldn’t understand.
Didn’t wives throw things when they find their husband cheating? Or at the very least… cry?
[DING!]
The elevator chimed as they reached the sixteenth floor.
Selene quickly got out while Adrian hurried after her.
She walked down the quiet hallway before stopping outside the presidential suite. She knocked three times and patiently waited for the door to open.
Seconds later… The door opened.
Vivienne Hart stood there wrapped in a white hotel robe. Her makeup was smudged.
Selene’s eyes examined her. She saw the dark red marks decorated all over her neck and collarbone without the slightest attempt to hide them.
For a brief second… Selene simply looked at her.
She had long since given up expecting Lucien to act like a husband.
At this point… She merely wanted to resolve the crisis and return to work.
“Get out of my way.” She said, her voice dipping low in a dangerous tone, her phoenix eyes sweeping through her husband’s mistress like a wolf eyeing its prey.
Adrian seeing her expression has finally sighed in relief.
So she does feel something?
Sigh. With that expression he can only pity this actress’ fate after this.
It was Monday morning. The elevator doors opened to the executive floor of Laurent Entertainment.Selene stepped out with her tablet tucked beneath one arm as several employees greeted her.“Good morning, Director.” She acknowledged them with a nod before walking toward her office.Only… She stopped seeing several of her employees were inside.Boxes were stacked neatly across the floor while others carefully packed away the books, awards, and framed certificates that had decorated her office for years. Her brows furrowed.“What is going on?”The room immediately fell silent. The employees exchanged nervous glances before one of them quickly lowered his head.“Director… we were instructed to clear the office.”“By whom?”Before anyone could answer, a familiar voice came from behind.“Miss Selene.”She turned. It was her father’s executive assistant.“Chairman Laurent would like to see you.”…Selene went to her father’s office without delay. Demanding for an answer. Her father looked u
Dinner ended shortly after.Selene quietly excused herself first. She had stayed at the Voss Manor countless times before. Whenever she and Lucien were required to spend the night, they always occupied the master bedroom while Lucien slept in the adjoining guest room.It had become an unspoken arrangement between them. One they had never broken. So she had no reason to believe this night would be any different. After entering the room, Selene headed straight for the bathroom.Warm water washed away the exhaustion of the day, allowing her to finally breathe in peace.Nearly twenty minutes later, she stepped out, drying her damp hair with a towel draped over her shoulders. However when she scanned her eyes in the room, she froze.Lucien sat in the armchair beside the bed. One leg crossed over the other. His suit jacket had been removed, the sleeves of his dress shirt rolled neatly to his forearms. His eyes were fixed on her and his expression unreadable.“What are you doing here?” She a
The black sedan rolled through the towering iron gates of the Voss Manor.Nestled atop a sprawling hill overlooking the city, every brick, every column, and every carefully trimmed hedge spoke of generations of wealth and power. The moment the car came to a stop, Lucien sighed.“This is going to be troublesome.”Selene simply glanced at him, keeping quiet. She stepped out first. The butler had already opened the massive double doors by the time they reached the entrance. The moment Lucien crossed the door—[CRASH!]A porcelain vase shattered against the wall beside his head.Fragments of the vase exploded across the polished marble floor. Luckily, not a single shard touched him.Lucien merely glanced at the broken vase before lifting his eyes toward the man standing in the center of the hall.Richard Voss. His father. His expression was frighteningly grim. “You still dare show your face here?!”Lucien slipped one hand into his pocket, a lazy smile tugging at his lips.“How could I ref
Vivienne looked at the woman in front of her, frowning.“Who are you?” She asked, gritting her teeth.Never in her life was she ever intimidated by someone, yet with only one look from this woman, it was enough to send her over the edge.“You will know me soon enough.” Selene stepped inside without waiting for an invitation.Vivienne was making a ruckus behind her, but Adrian shut her up immediately. The luxurious suite overlooked the city skyline through floor-to-ceiling windows. The air smelled of tobacco, the stronger the smell the closer Selene was to Lucien. As she turned to a corner, her gaze landed on the man seated comfortably on the leather sofa, with his one leg crossed over the other.A crystal wine glass rested lazily in his hand. His shirt was unbuttoned at the collar, and his sleeves rolled to his forearms. He looked leisure and unbothered by everything that was happening. When their eyes met… A captivating smile slowly curved across his lips.“You are finally here.”Se
