I felt the car slow down, and then he looked at me.

"Would you believe me if I said no?"

I immediately looked away when our eyes met.

"No," I replied curtly. "You can just admit it."

"You might get angry and think that I only did it to make up for what I said to you, but no, Lyl, I just want to help you, your sister. I have no other motive in helping your sister—"

"Thank you very much for the help, Raze. But as much as possible, I don't want to be indebted to you anymore. I haven't paid you back yet, so I don't want to add to it. I would appreciate it more if you didn't interfere in my personal life," I said coldly, which silenced him.

Neither of us spoke during the entire travel until he stopped by the side of the road where we would still have to hike up the mountain to reach the cockfighting arena, and our house as well.
