General POV

Outside the school premises sat Elia and Luca, sitting on the school bench waiting for the driver to come pick them up from school. Their backpacks were behind them as they waited patiently.

Elia sat moving her legs in a way her school sneakers tapped the ground, and the sound pierced the silence within, as most students were already gone, while Luca was beside her, focused on his tablet, moving his fingers on the screen, not caring about what time the driver would come.

“When are we going to execute our plans?” Elia questioned, “You told me to wait, and I've been waiting for…like…a hundred years.”

“A week. You have been waiting a week. And you exaggerate like Dad,” Lu

Lucien’s povMidday at the office was a moment of quiet meditations. The sun was warm too. After the lunch break, I couldn't pay attention to work. The office phone rang twice, but I didn't bother checking who called the line.I couldn't even focus on the documents brought to me for approval and signature by my secretary earlier this morning. My mind raced from one thought to another. It drifted to the morning encounter with Selene, the way she had looked at me across the street, composed in her office wear. Then there were the failed attempts to speak to her when I saw her during my lunch at the plaza; I didn't reach out. Something in her eyes, some unshakeable certainty, had kept me still.I stood up immediately, pacing to and fro in my office, restless like a caged dog. “What the hell is going on with me? Why do I feel this way?” I whispered to no one as I crossed my arms tightly. I should have approached her those times. I saw her today; instead, her poised attitude made me hes

Selena's povSeven o’clock sharp. The children and I were already in the elevator, ready to leave. Luca was busy adjusting his school tie for the fourth time, determined to make it perfect. Elia was handing the driver her lunchbox with a huge smile on her face; she enjoyed going to her new school. Every morning was an adventure for her. When they were all settled in the back seat of the Mercedes SUV, I leaned in closer and said, “Victor will make sure you’re both on time,” I told them, adjusting Elia’s hair clip with a practised hand. “Mummy has another appointment and will take the cab today.”“Yes, Mummy,” Elia said, while Luca gave a positive nod.“Victor, text me when you get there,” I instructed the driver. “Have a wonderful day in school, kids.” I waved them off; my hand remained in the air until the car disappeared through the gate. I booked a cab, welcoming the hum of Manhattan traffic. The stop-and-go rhythm gave me a little more quiet to collect my thoughts. Today was my fi

Selene's POVThe gala night was memorable, but I was exhausted. My heels clicked lightly against the wood as I entered my quiet apartment. The familiar rose fragrance lingering in the living room gave me clams; I felt the joy of being home after a long night. I met the nanny in the hallway, purse already in her hands like someone prepared to leave immediately.“Welcome, Ma,” she greeted, bowing slightly. “Thank you. What of my children?”“They are already asleep, Ma.”I blinked my eyes vicariously, looking at the wall clock. “This early?”The nanny shrugged, giving out a warm smile. “The children were waiting to see you. Elia wanted a bedtime story, but they got tired of waiting, so they slept off.”"Alright, thank you so much for tonight," I said softly, placing my hand inside my purse. "I appreciate it." Finally I got out some money, I paid her for the services rendered and saw her out. The apartment was as quiet as a graveyard; you could hear the clock ticking. The night wind wh

Lucien's POVI stood by the bar like a built-up statue, my drink untouched still in my grip as I locked my eyes on Selene, watching her closely. Every move she made, my eyes followed. She looked not like the woman who lived in my house as my wife. No… she has evolved. Her confidence marvelled me. Beside her was a man.I watched the way he removed her hands from the investor's firm grips. The gesture was casual but in a possessive way. Her responses to it seemed to hint at something more, and that made me feel worse. Then she smiled at him. Not politely. Not tightly. Genuinely. The kind that reached her eyes.“I've never seen her smile like that before. All those times we stayed together in our marriage, she never laughed.” I murmured inwardly; irritation slightly showed up on my face, and my left fist clenched.“The smile she never gave me.”As the man led her away from the investors, she followed him willingly. She seemed calm and relaxed around him.“That's him,” Cassia whispere

Selene's POV After I delivered the speech flawlessly, the applause was thunderous; some people were excited, while some were amazed by the fact that Aether's COO was not just a woman but that woman who knows how to deliver a unique, outstanding and intriguing speech. I descended the podium with elegance, each step calculated. My heartbeat hammered constantly before the speech, but this time my heart was steady, and I was no longer bothered about who I saw or anything. The performance is muscle memory now. I'm totally impressed, and my smile says it all. Some investors and city elites exchanged handshakes with me, while some came closer, congratulating me on a speech well delivered. “You speak like you built the company yourself,” one investor said, shaking me firmly, his eyes sweeping over me appreciatively. Well done, Miss…”“Quinns” I completed the statement immediately while exchanging handshakes. “Thank you so much.”Another investor stepped forward. “We need more women like yo
