Aliyah's POV

I sat on the couch as I watched the minutes pass by, the clock ticking continuously as I awaited the arrival of my husband.

The clock ticked closer to midnight, but Roland wasn't here.

No. Not tonight. Not on our third anniversary night.

Frustration boiled within me, heat rising in my chest.

This could only mean one thing. He didn't care about tonight.

I didn't care. No matter when, I'll be here waiting.

My eyelids grew heavy, but I forced them open. No sleep until Roland gets back.

My gaze shifted to the dining table, the dinner I had personally prepared because of the special day lying untouched. The meal had turned cold, making anguish press deeper in my chest.

Moments later, the door swung open and Roland stepped in.

I jumped to my feet, my words filled with anger. It's our wedding anniversary tonight, Roland, I reminded him.

He shrugged, like he didn't have a care in the world. What about it?

His words send a surge of anger coursing through my veins, setting my blood on fire.

How dare he treat today as nothing?! After three years of enduring this loveless marriage?

It's our anniversary, Roland! I yelled. I made dinner, waited for you for hours only for you to come back now? My tone was etched with disbelief.

And all you say is "What about it? I said, my voice laced with sarcasm.

I've had a hectic day, Aliyah. I'm tired, so just rest, he muttered, attempting to ascend the stairs.

I grabbed his arm, forcing him to face me. What have I ever done, Roland? All I did was love you! All I ever wanted was your attention! I've never asked for too much! My voice quivered.

He groaned in frustration, his eyes darkened. “Don't forget your place, Aliyah." This marriage was not built on love, but on power! Wealth! Don't act naive.

His words shattered my heart, tears brimming my eyes.

“But I loved you with every fiber of my being,” my voice cracked.

Roland scoffed, looking so cold and distant. “Don't be mistaken,” he said, the words coming out of his mouth with so much hatred. You are merely a pawn for this game in the business world, Aliyah. A pawn I'm supposed to exploit to my advantage.

I recoiled, taking a step backwards, my voice barely audible as I whispered. What did you just say?

I said what I said, dear wife. You're a trophy. Nothing more. His words crashed into me like a storm, the impact of his cruelty becoming unbearable.

A trophy.... Meant to stand by his side, forcing a smile while acting like the perfect wife.

To the world, we were perfect. A perfect marriage every woman would have prayed for.

Tears cascaded through my cheeks, every word he had uttered, shattering my heart into a million pieces.

I sniffled, letting out a bitter laugh. So that's all I am to you? A pawn. A trophy you flaunt whenever you want?

“Don't twist my words, Aliyah!” he snapped.

I don't need to twist anything, you just made yourself clear. My voice trembled with fury.

Roland sighed heavily, like my pains were nothing but a nuisance to his existence. “It's past your bedtime, Aliyah.

That was a way of telling me I've done enough.

The anguish in my throat tightened, Roland. All I wanted was your love. Your attention.

His gaze darkened. You got married to a Voss. Don't expect more.

His cold words struck deeper than a knife. The way he said it, as though I had married him because of his name....his power.

Visions of building a family with him shattered in an instant.

I should have known, My voice cracked. From the very beginning, I should have seen through you.

A smile tugged at the corner of his lips, Then what?

It made my fists curl, but Roland Voss wasn't done.

He stepped closer, his words filled with mockery. If you had seen through me then you would have done what?

Don’t forget. Consider yourself fortunate, Aliyah. You married a Voss.

"Don't make it sound like I married you because of your damn name!" I roared. I married you because I loved you!

Roland chuckled. Love? Don't be naive, dear wife. His hands cupped my face, his grip firm, gaze merciless.

“Love is for the weak!" We don't live on love, we live on power!” He gritted, then took his hands off my face roughly before he stormed upstairs.

He left me picking the shards of my emotions.

He dared to call my love weak?

No love. No feelings. But I was just finding out after three years.

I trailed behind him, walking into our master bedroom but was met with surprise when I saw the sight of him.

Roland was shredding his clothes off, getting dressed in a new suit adorned with designs, the sharp scent of his cologne filling the air.

You....are going out again? My voice trembled.

Without turning to look at me, he responded. Yeah. To a bar.

The realization hit me hard.

He was preparing to go to a bar, seeking pleasure in the arms of another woman.

Pain washed over me, intensifying the torrent of emotion swirling inside me.

Now you humiliate me by flaunting your infidelity? I asked.

I sacrificed everything for him, but to him, this marriage is nothing.

His face twisted with rage. Don't accuse me baselessly, Aliyah.

Before I could retort, his phone rang. He stormed past me, answering the call.

I'm waiting, a woman's voice said from the other end of the phone.

I'll be there in a jiffy, Roland replied, his tone flat.

The sound of his retreating footsteps echoed through my ears.

Then he was gone, leaving me to process everything that had happened.

He wasn't just discarding me, he was cheating. Betraying me.

The realization cut sharper than a blade.

Then I knew it was time... time to liberate myself from the shadows that had consumed our marriage.

Tonight, I vowed. I was done being his trophy. And this was the beginning of my end with Roland Voss.

~Aliyah's Pov~I got up and went to the door. Each step felt heavier than the last, my legs stiff, my body moving on instinct rather than choice. My heart pounded loudly against my chest, so hard I was sure Clara could hear it. The sound filled my ears, drowning out everything else. The only person I could think of right then was Ronald. My mind latched onto his face, his voice, the cold certainty in his eyes. If he was the one standing on the other side of that door, there would be trouble. Not loud, immediate trouble, but the kind that followed you long after the door was closed.I reached the door and paused, my fingers hovering for a second before wrapping around the knob. My palm was damp. I turned it slowly, just enough to crack the door open. And then I saw him.The face staring back at me was so unexpected that my breath hitched.Dominic.For a heartbeat, I couldn’t move or speak. My mind scrambled, trying to reconcile the image in front of me with the fear I’d been bracing fo

~Aliyah’s POV~I woke up with the strange feeling that something was wrong. Not the loud kind of wrong. Not the kind that jolts you awake with shouting or slamming doors or chaos crashing into your senses. This was quieter. Heavier. The kind of wrong that settled on your chest like a weight before your eyes even opened, making it hard to breathe for a moment.I lay there, still, trying to place it.For a brief second, I forgot where I was. The ceiling above me looked unfamiliar, the light filtering in at the wrong angle. Confusion fluttered through my mind, slow and groggy. Then my senses caught up.I smelled Clara’s detergent, clean, floral, comforting. I heard the faint, steady hum of the fan somewhere in the room, its rhythm soothing and constant. I felt the unfamiliar softness of the mattress beneath me, the sheets not arranged the way I usually did them.I was still at Clara’s.Relief washed through me, warm but fragile, like something that could shatter if I held it too tightly.

~Dominic's Pov~I rushed out after collecting my thoughts properly, and I met with someone I trusted. That alone narrowed the list down to almost nothing. Trust wasn’t something I handed out easily, especially not with the Voss name hanging over my head like a warning label. But he was one of the few people outside that world who understood discretion. No questions asked. No unnecessary loyalties. He dealt with facts, not gossip, and silence was his strongest currency. We sat across from each other in a quiet, neutral space. No records. No witnesses. The kind of place where conversations disappeared the moment they ended.“She can’t stay where she is forever,” he said bluntly, leaning forward with his elbows on the table. There was no sympathy in his tone, only realism. “He’ll drag her back.”“I know,” I replied without hesitation. The words tasted bitter, but they were true. Ronald didn’t let go of what he considered his. Time didn’t soften him, it sharpened him.“And if you step in

~Dominic’s POV~The first thing I did when I woke up was reach for my phone. Not a stretch. Not check the time. My hand went straight to the screen like it had a mind of its own, fingers already swiping, already hoping. My eyes scanned the notifications quickly, then slower, my chest tightening with every second that passed. No messages from Aliyah.I frowned, refreshing the screen once, then again, even though I knew it was pointless. I had been expecting her to reach out to me, almost certain she would after the photos were released. After everything blew up. After the damage was done. She should have said something. Anything.A knot formed in my stomach, thick and uneasy. I was very certain she was in a difficult situation now, and the bitter truth sat heavy on my tongue; it was my fault. I’d been the catalyst, whether I liked it or not.My thoughts spiraled immediately, dark and relentless.Had Ronald locked her in again? The image came too easily, too vividly. Aliyah trapped behi

~Ronald’s POV~How dare she hang up on me?The audacity of it hit me a second too late, like a slap that only started burning after the hand was gone. I stood there, phone still pressed into my ear, listening to nothing but dead air. For a moment, I didn’t even move. I just stared, stunned, as if the device itself had betrayed me.Goodbye.The words echoed in my head, slow and deliberate, each syllable sinking deeper like a calculated insult. Not rushed. Not shaky. No apology woven into it. No tremor of fear. Just that calm, infuriating tone, steady, controlled, like she was the one deciding when the conversation ended.Goodbye.My fingers tightened around the phone as I lowered it, my eyes boring into the dark screen. I willed it to light up again. Willed her name to appear, followed by some frantic excuse, some hurried explanation that would put things back where they belonged.Nothing happened. The silence mocked me.My jaw clenched so hard it ached. “It’s not even late,” I muttere

~ALIYAH’S POV~The moment the call ended, my hands started to shake, violent, uncontrollable tremors that rattled straight up my arms. The phone slipped in my grip, tilting dangerously, and for a split second I was sure it would crash to the floor. I sucked in a sharp breath. Before it could fall, Clara was there. She snatched the phone from my hand with quick reflexes and placed it carefully on the table, screen facing down, like it was something fragile… or dangerous. Then she turned to me fully, her eyes steady, unflinching.“You did great,” she said firmly, leaving no room for doubt. “You hear me? Great.”The word echoed in my head, but my body didn’t believe it.My knees gave out, and I sank into the couch, the cushions swallowing me as if I needed something, anything, to hold me together. My chest felt tight, like I’d just run for my life.“I feel like I just poked a sleeping lion,” I muttered, staring at the wall, my voice barely holding.Clara huffed softly. “He’s been awake t
