CHAPTER 5
CASSANDRA“I don't get it sir.” I say, backing away from my boss’s touch. He had called me into his office this morning to drop some folders and has been trying to touch me. I definitely do not want to deal with this dick's flirtatious glares and corny disgusting remarks this morning. He’s tall, and… I guess, hot, but he has a very nasty character, and that’s just a total turnoff for me in a guy. I just want to work and then go home to think of a solution to my life, why must he bother me?“Cassandra, you know what I want.” Max, my boss says moving closer to me, making me roll my eyes, and back away.“I do not know what you want sir, I dropped the folder on your desk already and I would like to take my leave as I have other things to attend to.” I say but he holds my hand firmly. I swear to God if he tries stupid shit, I will kick him in the crotch and spit right in his face. Stay calm Cassy, you have dealt with his stupid personality for three years now so you can do it.“Let me go sir.” I say again with a forced smile.“Why are you doing this to me? I already said I need you so why are you making me beg for it?” he growls holding me roughly.“Mr. Curbs, I would like to leave so I can get on with my work today and I do not want to understand what you just said.” I say again trying to free myself from his hold, but instead he pushes me against the wall, and before I can comprehend what is going on, he already has both my hands above my head, pinned against the wall with one of his hands, and his lips crashes onto mine, sucking and biting on them. I try to break free but he’s surprisingly, extremely strong. I try to scream but then I remember the walls in his office are sound-proof. Just great.“Sir…” I start to say, but instead gives him an opportunity to stick his tongue into my mouth. He starts to kiss my neck, and I try breaking free but it’s useless. His free hand grabs my boobs through my tank top, making tears well up in my eyes. “Goddamn! You’re so soft.” He moans.“Let me go!” I yell, my voice cracking as I fight the tears threatening to pour out.He stops squeezing me and I let out an inaudible sigh thinking he is going to let me go, only to feel his hand going up my skirt, rubbing my thighs. Oh shit!“Mr. Curbs, please.” I plead.Just then the door swings open to reveal his personal assistant holding two cups of coffee with a huge, flirtatious smile on her face. “Mr. Curb...” She trails off, staring at our awkward position, before giving me a cold hard glare. Easy bitch I see he is fucking you too, but the good news is you have nothing to worry about, he won't be adding me to his fuck list because he is not even my type and moreover I don't do relationships on the job, and even if I did, it wouldn’t be a potential rapist I’d date.“Am I interrupting something?” She asks, staring at the both of us as Max pulls away from me begrudgingly, I heave a sigh of relief as I adjust my clothes, and make myself look presentable.“What are you doing here? Don't you know how to knock on a door before you come in?” He thunders harshly, making her flinch."I-I'm sorry Mr. Curbs, I just brought the coffee.” She says politely, trying to hide the hurt in her voice, but I could hear it anyways. She must have probably thought sleeping with the jerk face would mean getting special treatment. How dumb is she?“I will take my leave, when you sign the folder, please notify me and do have a nice day.” I say using this as a way to get out of the office. If I ever come to his office again, I’m leaving the door open so I can run away once he makes a move and everyone will be able to hear my screams.“We aren’t done with our conversation; I’ll see you later.” He says lustfully, making me shudder in disgust. I walk towards the door, and then exit the office closing the door gently after me.“What happened?” Mrs. Parker, the clerk asks as soon as I get to my table.I give her a smile, “It's nothing.” I say and she nods before turning back to what she’s doing.I sit at my table and then search my bag for the card I got yesterday at the party. I am seriously considering taking this stupid offer from Victoria, but how the hell does one kill a person without going to prison? I look at the paper over and over again before looking at my phone. I need to clear the debt this week or else the house will be taken from me; that's the only thing I have of my father, I just can't let it go, I can't lose it. I wanted to discuss this with Cole before I decide but I guess he hasn't checked my messages today either. I really hope he is fine, because whatever I do, is for us, and our future.I walk to the ladies, and after making sure no one is in the stalls, I dial the number on the business card. It rings for a few seconds before she finally answers it. “Oh! Hi Cassandra, I have been waiting for your call.” Victoria says, mockery evident in her voice. Damn! She really is annoying.“How did you know it is my number, and why were you so sure I would call you back.” I say and she laughs.“I have my ways of knowing your number, and of course I knew you’d call back, you need the money.” she says, making me frown.“Would you stop making it sound like I am a gold digger? I'm also doing you a favor, okay?” I say.“Yeah! If you put it that way, I don’t care.” She says.“When will you send the money?” I ask her.“Be patient, Miss Johnson.” She chuckles devilishly.“I don't have all day; I might change my mind anytime so let's seal the deal.” I say impatiently, occasionally glancing at the toilet door, in case anyone is about to enter.“Fine. Let's meet at the cafe right opposite your office during your lunch break and then we will finalize everything.” She says. I am about to ask her how she knows my office but I just drop it since she happens to know everything about me.“I’ll see you then.” I say, hanging up, as I wonder if I’m doing the right thing or not but a memory tornado of my problems hit me, making me drop the idea of refusing the offer a second time. I leave the toilet to my seat, and continue with my work.Soon it's lunch break, I stand up from my seat after everyone has gone out to have lunch, and then grab my purse and phone before heading outside the company. As soon I walk into the cafe, I sight Victoria in a very huge disguise, and won’t have recognized her if she wasn’t beckoning to me, and-of course-her ever annoying bodyguard is also here, but he isn’t wearing a disguise, he’s just sitting away from her, pretending to read a newspaper.“Let's make it quick.” I say and sit down. She frowns, “You don't call the shots, okay? I do. In case you’ve forgotten, I’m the one paying you.” she corrects, but I just keep quiet. She hands me the picture of Nicholas Bennett again."So, all I have to do is kill him?” I whisper, looking around to make sure no one is listening in on our conversation.“Yes! That's all.” She says.“Okay, I’ll do it, but how am I sure I will get paid?”She frowns, glaring at me, “I’m Victoria Rodriguez, and I’m not poor.” She brings out her phone, and begins typing stuffs, making me irritated. Whoa! we’re having a conversation and she brings out her phone, how rude? I’m about to voice my thoughts when I receive a message notification from my phone.“Check your phone.” She smirks, and I when I do, I see an alert of fifty million dollars. My eyes bulge open in shock and disbelief. I rub my eyes and pinch my face to make sure I’m not dreaming, and I’m not. In a matter of seconds, I’ve become a millionaire.“That's half of the payment. I’ll give you the remaining half once you’re done. Remember, you have only a few weeks to kill him, and don’t think of running away because killing you is no problem for me.” She says.“Wait! A few weeks, that’s not feasible for me.” I protest.“Fine. I’m giving you three months, and that’s more than enough time to carry out your task.” She smiles and then leaves the cafe with her bodyguard. I stare at my phone in disbelief, still not believing what just happened, and the type of deal I had just made. I’m going to kill someone.CHAPTER 35CASSANDRAI’ve been awake for two months now, I’m not really sure, since I’ve lost track of time and I don’t know which days are which. Although I’m awake, I still feel dead because I can’t move or do anything, I can only sit still and listen to what is going on around me, and every time Nick comes to my bed, I feel so heartbroken because of how sad he sounds. I can her how heartbroken he is by the fact that I’m in a Coma. I just want to wake up, kiss and make love to him all night long, but I can’t.Julian and Frank have been coming here a lot to see me, they tell me about how the police has intensified their search on Victoria, and I just hope and pray she doesn’t go near my family, because Coma or not, I’m going to kill her. They also tell me about how their business is booming and how they miss me, and how I should wake up quickly because Nick has not been himself since I went into a coma. Just a few days ago, they told me Julian is three weeks pregnant, and I wanted to
CHAPTER 34CASSANDRA“Where in the world are you guys? We’ve been here for the past two minutes and I’m tired of waiting for you guys, so you had better hurry your ass up.” I yell into my phone, at Julian.I hear her let out a sigh, and I can feel her rolling her eyes, “We’ll be there very soon Cassy, it’s just two minutes. Chill out.” She says.“Just hurry up.” I frown, hanging up. Nick just looks at me from where he has just finished setting the picnic mat on the ground and has placed the basket on it, and starts to laugh, making my frown deepen, “What are you laughing at mister?”He walks towards me where I am standing with an umbrella over my head, “Well, I’m laugh at how overbearing you’ve become since you got pregnant.” He says, leading me to the picnic mat.The frown on my face disappears, and is replaced by a sad, worried face, with teary eyes, “You don’t love me any less, do you?” I croak, about to cry. It’s been six months since I was told I’m pregnant, so now I’m eight mont
CHAPTER 33CASSANDRA“Oh, Hey Frank! I was just about talking about you; why don’t you take a seat?” I say sarcastically, this time getting really angry. How could they not even bother telling me about their relationship? I mean, they’re my only two friends that I actually talk, and now that they’re in a relationship, they keep it from me. I’m starting to wonder what friendship truly means to these guys, because they clearly don’t get it.I suddenly feel a wave of fatigue wash over, and I start to feel dizzy. I stagger slightly and since I’m standing, I drop to the couch. I’ve been feeling this way since for the past two days now, and I’ve vomited at least seven times since then. Nick said that he’s taking me to the hospital when he gets back from work, and I really don’t want to go, because personally, I hate hospitals. They both rush to me to make sure I’m fine, but I just give them a death glare making them halt in their steps. Much better. Turning to Frank, I say, “As I was saying
CHAPTER 32CASSANDRAIt’s been a week since Nick proposed to me, but I haven’t had the time to tell Julian, since I’ve been busy at work and she hasn’t been picking her calls, and I couldn’t have gone to see her either since she has been travelling around to different parties and events since it is her Catering company that is in charge of the catering services for them. Yes! Julian is the owner of the biggest catering company in New York. It’s so funny how she went from being a stripper to an inspiration to those who want to also go into catering. After the arrest of Victoria, Nick said he wanted to meet my family and friends, and then I told him Cole was out of the country and my only family was Frank and Julian, and I took him to the club to meet them. After knowing that Julian was a stripper, and the only reason she did it was to get enough more to grow her small time catering business, and he gave her… I don’t really know… I think it was about four million dollars to kick start t
CHAPTER 31CASSANDRA“So… what was up with that lady that pushed me out of the way when she was leaving your office? And why was she looking at me like I had just stolen something from her? And also, why was she crying? Did you do something or say something to make her cry?” I start to ask Nick as he drives out of his company’s parking lot. That lady looked like she wanted to strangle me on the spot, and I wear I just wanted to disappear with the way she was looking at me, it was so scary.“Slow down with the questions, babe. How many questions do you want me to answer at once?” He chuckles, his eyes fixed on the road.“As many as you possibly can, so start talking.” I say.“Well, she’s my secretary Laura who has been in love with me way before I met you, and was always showing it.” He pauses, and I nod my head for him to continue, “She got angry at me because I brought you into the company as my P.A, a position she has apparently been eyeing, talked about how I shouldn’t trust you… A
CHAPTER 30NICHOLASHe pulls up in the company’s lot, parking his car at an empty spot. He looks over at Cassy to see her inhaling and exhaling, and he knows she’s nervous and so he reaches for her hand, and gives it a light squeeze. “You’ll be fine, I promise.” He says reassuringly, and she nods her head, calming her nerves. They both get out of the car, and together, they walk into the company. The staffs in the office greets him politely as he walks past them to the elevator leaving them wondering who Cassy is. “What if I say nonsense? Or I fall to the ground?” She asks him as soon as they her in the elevator, her panic rising. He kisses her on the lips, and she forgets all about her worries. He pulls away, “You won’t say nonsense, and you won’t fall either.”“But what if I do?” She asks, taking deep breaths of air.“If you say nonsense, then I’ll laugh it off, and if you fall, I’ll be there to catch you.” He says, and she relaxes a little.“Thank you love.” She says, regaining her
CHAPTER 29CASSANDRAI have just finished setting the dining table when Nick comes in, dressed smartly for work, with his briefcase in his hand. “Ooh! Someone’s looking good.” I compliment him, as he takes his seat at the dining table, dropping his briefcase on the floor, by his chair.“I always look good.’ He says with a proud look on his face, making me roll my eyes, as I walk into the kitchen to get glass cups for the wine since I forgot about it.“You think you’re such a hot cake, don’t ya?” I say to him, walking back with two glass cups in hands before placing them before him, pouring water into one, and wine into the other.“Of course I am. I mean, look at all this?” He says, gesturing to himself and I just have to laugh, almost spilling wine on the table.“Well, I don’t know what you’re talking about because there’s nothing remarkable about your looks.” I tease him, serving him spaghetti, before adding barbecue on top of it.“Well, I highly doubt that the million girls dying to
CHAPTER 28CASSANDRAIt’s been three months since Victoria disappeared, and the police have still found no leads on her, and sometimes I feel scared she’ll come back for me, to get her revenge since I’m the reason why she was arrested, but I’ve gotten over my fears now due to my boyfriend’s constant reassurance that he’ll make sure she gets arrested and that nothing ever happens to me. Yes! I’m talking about Nicholas, the one I was hired to kill, we’re official now.I can’t help but smile whenever I think about my past and how we both started and I don’t know if I sound crazy but I’m actually glad I met Victoria, else I wouldn’t have met my amazing boyfriend who has, since the mess with Victoria, taken care of me and loved me wholeheartedly, not caring that I had once attempted to take his life. He even moved into my father’s house because of how much I loved it, and despite the fact that his is way bigger than my dad’s own, saying that we didn’t need to live in a house that’s too big
CHAPTER 27CASSANDRA“What the hell happened to you? You are bleeding. Where did you go to? I’ve been so worried.” Nick says as soon as I am inside the house. I collapse on the couch in the living room, knowing I have lost a lot of blood but I don’t want to go to the hospital since I know it’s Victoria who is behind this and I really have to tell Nick about it.“Nick, it’s fine.” I say and smile at him. “It’s not fine Cassy, you are bleeding and you look so faint.” He says.“I’ll go to the hospital, I promise, but first, I really have something to tell you. I need to tell you.” I say, looking into his eyes with regret in my eyes.“What is it? Don’t tell me you are going to say lady night was a mistake and that you don’t love me all over again because for me last night was the best thing.” He says and I pull him down to my level, kissing his lips to shut him up.“Last night wasn’t a mistake, it will never be a mistake and I still love you, I promise.” I say, and a smile forms on his l
