Did I kill him? Did I really forget what was on that blade when I slashed him or did the rage and envy of seeing my love choose another drive me to want him dead? I couldn’t remember. I try to make sense of my actions but I genuinely cannot remember what it is that I felt in that moment and if I was aware of who it was, that I attacked at the end.

“You are losing that faint line that was your sanity.” My mother says sadly as she watches me from across the room.

“And I should believe you?” I scoff. She was the last person I needed to take warning from or understand.

“Charlotte, you forget me. I am but a figment of your mental health deteriorating. I am a part of your mind. I see, feel and know what it is that goes on in your head.” Her calm voice irritates me. It always has.

“Then you’d know that my mind, body and soul HATE you. Every inch of me despises you.” I hiss at her as I emphasis my words.

“If that were completely true, I wouldn’t have came. The truth is, you have guilt for wha

I watch Claire as she rests in her designated recovery room. Elena had brought food, fed her and rubbed her feet until she passed out. I simply allowed her to be pampered. There was no use in interfering. This was their time.I sit in the recliner next to Claire’s bed in silence as Elena reads a book and wait for Claire to wake up.“Elena, you can go home if you’d like.” I offer although I knew she’d refuse.“No Mr. Leo. I stay with her until she is able to come home, please.”“As you wish.” As I finish my sentence, I can feel my phone vibrating in my suit pocket. I pull it out to see Mason is calling. He wouldn’t have bothered if it wasn’t urgent. He knew that Claire had surgery today. I made everyone aware. I motion to Elena that I will be stepping out of the room for a moment. She nods.“Hey, what’s going on?” I ask in a calm and hushed tone as I make my way to the cafeteria.“I’m sorry I have to bother you but we have a really big problem.” It was important.“What is it?” I ask as

I’m just entering the office and still on cloud nine after my date with Jasmine last night when I’m given a frantic call from the psychiatric facility.“Hello, this is Chief Commissioner Mason.”“We need help! A patient was attacked during an unauthorized visit. She’s being transported to receive medical attention as we speak.” The lady says quickly as though there were a fire set ablaze. Wait, she doesn’t mean - no she couldn’t. She wasn’t allowed any visitors.“What the patients’ name?” I ask quickly as I motion for an office to follow me to my office.“ Charlotte.” I look at the phone in horror as I process what I’d just heard.“I’ll have officers there soon.” I say as I hang up.“I need you to get a fellow officer and head to the psychiatric facility. There was an attack. I need you interrogated the staff and get the video surveillance. He nods before rushing out of my office.I think to call Leo and Claire but I remember Clair being scheduled for surgery today and didn’t want to

  • The Billionaire Husband’s Betrayal   Chapter 114: Julia’s POV

It had been a few days since I met the infamous Charlotte. I had checked in with Claire to make sure they are well and she tells me that my pretend-lover was poisoned. It was unforgivable. That woman had tried to poison me. I had told Francisco and he seemed horrified by my confession.“I do not want you risking your life again. Our little heir needs his mama.” He says sternly.“I intend to see Charlotte only once more. I think it is time that she suffer the same fate she has dealt for the women in Leonardo’s life - like my mon ange, Claire.” I say as I get dressed.“She isn’t worth it.” He argues. “Besides, she is in a mental facility. You cannot reach her.”“My love, how naive. I can reach anyone.” I say as I tuck a finger under his chin. “You told me that she was dead to you. Did you lie to me?”“No. I just do not want to lose you once again.”“And you will not.” I reassure him as I leave the bedroom and nod to Dahlia.“The men you requested are downstairs in the car, waiting for y

They waited twenty four hours before moving me to a residency room. It looked just like the last with the exception of more surveillance. Was there surveillance in the padded room? Damn it.“This room suites you. It is empty just like your soul.” My mother says as she wanders the small room from wall to wall.“Oh goodie, I get to share it with you.” I roll my eyes as I sit down on the bed. I hear a knock at the door and watch as the nurse enters.“Charlotte, it’s time for breakfast.” I see that she’s pulling carts stacked with food trays as she put one down gently on the desk fastened to the wall in my room. I wait for her to leave before inspecting the tray to find avocado toast, bacon and a boiled egg. “At least the food here is edible.” I scoff as I bring the tray to my bed.“I’m sure you’ll find the food in prison just as delectable.” She smirks as I take a bite of my toast.“You really don’t ever shut up. A pity if you ask me.” I say without so much as turning a glance her way.

I watch carefully as Claire is prepped for her surgery. She looks rather calm considering the circumstances. It was almost unnerving.“Okay, Claire is ready to be transferred to the OR.” I hear the nurse say to the next nurse as she steps in to transfer her over. “Wait, let’s give her a moment with her husband before she transfers.” The nurse says as she hold an arm out and both nurses leave the room without another word.“This is it. Are you ready?” I ask calmly as I watch for her reaction.“I think so. I’d be able to go back to doing what I love and I’d be able to carry our beautiful boys. I can’t miss out on these opportunities, not after everything I’ve missed already.” I see a hint of sadness as I extend my hand to her.“You’re going to be fine. I’ll make sure of it.” I couldn’t let anything happen to her. Not this time around.“Thank you.” She lets out a small smile and I lean over to give her a kiss.“I’ll be waiting for you on the other side.” I say as I press my forehead to h

I wake up to the early morning sun as I roll onto my side to make it the bathroom quickly. Normally, I’d admire the beautiful rays dancing on the stone windowsill but one of the boys was bouncing on my bladder. It isn’t until after I use the bathroom and return to bed that I realize Leo isn’t there. I feel my breath catch in my throat as I scan the room for him. I know he was here last night. The pleasure I felt couldn’t have been a dream. What if I made him weaker? Just as I sit down to panic, Leo opens the bedroom door and enters casually.“Good morning, I was just coming to wake you - Are you okay?” He shifts between happy and concerned as he sees my face.“I thought something happened to you.” I huff and point at him and then place my hand over my heart.“Claire, I’m fine. I feel a lot better after last night.” He winks as he makes his way to me and kisses my forehead. “I was just downstairs filling out your patient packet for your procedure today and drinking coffee.” His reassur

I never found getting dressed so tedious. I had settled on a nice pair of jeans and a leather jacket. Black would match anything that Jasmine planned on wearing - hopefully. I get in my car and head to Jasmine’s house and I make sure to arrive on time and on the hour. I’m about to knock on the floor door as I stand there with a bouquet of flowers when Nathan instinctively opens the door and waves for me to come in.“Jasmine’s just finishing up. She told me to let you in. It seems more like a demand than a request.” He shrugs as he offers me a beer. I take it with a nod. A beer wasn’t a a bad idea with my nerves.“Thanks, man.”“No problem. So you know as Jasmine’s uncle, I don’t want to see her hurt, right?” Not the parental warning. I thought I’d long since passed this stage in my life.“Is this where you threaten me and I’m supposed to feel intimidated like high school times?” I joke as I sip my beer.“No but in all seriousness, Jasmine hasn’t dated anyone since she ended her engage

  • The Billionaire Husband’s Betrayal   Chapter 113: Leonardo’s POV

It takes a while for me to make my way upstairs. I would ask for help but the thought of needing help to simply walk was humiliating within itself. I took each step slowly, holding onto the staircase rail tightly to ensure I wouldn’t fall back only to have to repeat the steps. It takes longer than I anticipated but I’m finally able to make it up the stairs and to my bedroom door. I open it to find Claire is snuggled up to her neck in my comforters and fast asleep. Elena had left her to nap. I slowly make my way to the ottoman to remove my shoes and clothes before getting into bed with her. I wrap my arms around her tiny frame and pull her into my chest like I’d done over the last six years. Truthfully, I couldn’t sleep without her in my grasp and her being gone has been extremely difficult. I watch as he turns, nuzzling her nose into the nape of my neck and breathes in deeply. I slowly reach my hand to her face, using one finger to whisk away an escaped lock. She was beautiful and she

I lay down in bed waiting for the unknown. Would he bust through my bedroom door and apologize for being wrong about Mason or happy to tell me that he wasn’t? It’d be so long since I’d dated anyone that I just didn’t even know how to anymore. I lay with my legs up against the wall, staring at the ceiling and thinking about the possibilities. If he wasn’t interested, it’d be awkward having to see him for Claire’s sake.I see my phone is ringing and answer without looking to see who it is. It must be one of my work colleagues. I hadn’t finalized the fall collection patterns for next season yet.“This is Jas.” I say comfortably. My phone never received mysterious or unwanted calls. They were always intended and directly related to me.“Hey, it’s Mason. Is it a good time?” I freeze as I hear his voice on the other line and I feel a zing in the palm of my hand.“Hey, yeah, what’s going on?” I knew Claire was okay, she texted me herself and she told Nathan and I that Leonardo was fine.
