The taxi pulled up to the curb outside Charlotte’s private townhouse.

Before her engagement, she had refused to move into Andrew’s sprawling apartment, preferring the quiet sanctuary of her own space. Andrew had called her stubborn. Now, as she paid the driver and stepped onto the pavement, she realized that stubbornness had been her only saving grace. At least she had a home to return to that wasn’t tainted by his betrayal.

But her relief evaporated the moment she turned the corner.

Sitting on the front steps of her townhouse, looking disheveled and frantic, was Andrew.

He was still wearing the same dress shirt from yesterday, though it was wrinkled and untucked. The moment he saw her, he shot to his feet, his bloodshot eyes widening with a mix of relief and desperation.

"Charlotte!" he practically gasped, rushing down the steps toward her. "God, I’ve been out here for hours. Where have you been? I was out of my mind with worry!"

Charlotte stopped on the sidewalk. Whatever affection she had left for Andrew disappeared the moment she saw him. Just yesterday, the sight of his worried face would have melted her heart. Today, it only made her stomach turn.

"Get off my property, Andrew," she said. Her voice was terrifyingly calm.

Andrew stopped a few feet away, holding his hands up as if trying to soothe a frightened animal. "Please, Charlotte, just let me inside. Let me explain. You have to listen to me."

"Listen to what?" Charlotte asked, her eyes narrowing into cold slits. "Which part requires an explanation? The part where you slept with another woman a month before our wedding, or the part where that woman was my younger sister?"

Andrew flinched as if she had struck him. He ran a trembling hand through his hair. "It was a mistake. A stupid, meaningless mistake! I had too much to drink, and Sienna... Sienna came over crying about some guy, and one thing led to another. It didn't mean anything! I love you, Charlotte!"

"If you loved me, you wouldn't have been in bed with my sister," she replied, her voice remaining eerily level. "And you certainly wouldn't have been mocking me while doing it."

The memory of their voices through the cracked bedroom door flashed in her mind—”She texted me she was staying late. We have all night.” Andrew swallowed hard, realizing his usual charm was completely useless against the absolute ice in her eyes. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the diamond engagement ring she had abandoned on his floor the night before.

"Please," he begged, taking a step closer and holding the ring out to her. "We can fix this. We can go to therapy. I'll cut Sienna out completely. Just take the ring back. We’ve spent three years building a life together. You can't just throw it away over one mistake."

Charlotte looked at the brilliant-cut diamond catching the morning light. It looked cheap to her now. Worthless.

"I didn't throw it away, Andrew," she said softly, stepping around him toward her front door. "You did. Keep the ring. Pawn it. Give it to Sienna. I don't care. But if you are not off my steps by the time I unlock this door, I am calling the police."

"Charlotte, wait! The wedding—the invitations—what are we going to tell everyone?" panic laced his voice. The Hart family was obsessed with their public image. A canceled wedding would be a social disaster for him.

"That is your problem," Charlotte said, sliding her key into the lock. "You broke it. You fix it."

She stepped inside and slammed the heavy oak door right in his face, immediately sliding the deadbolt into place.

Leaning against the wood, she closed her eyes, letting out a shaky breath. She was shaking, but not from sorrow. From pure adrenaline. She had done it. She had completely severed ties with the man she thought was her future.

Her phone buzzed in her purse.

She pulled it out, half expecting another barrage of messages from Andrew. Instead, it was a text from an unknown number, though the arrogant, pleading tone was unmistakable.

Sienna: “Charlotte, please. Andrew is ignoring my calls. You have to understand, we didn't mean to hurt you. We just fell in love. Please don't hate me. Mom and Dad are going to be furious if you make a scene about this. Let's just talk.”

A bitter laugh escaped Charlotte's lips. “We just fell in love.” Sienna had always wanted whatever Charlotte had. Her clothes, her parents' praise, her spotlight. Now, she had taken her fiancé.

Charlotte deleted the message without replying. She wasn't going to play their game.

She needed a distraction. She needed to be anywhere but here, trapped with her own thoughts and the lingering, confusing memory of the dark-haired stranger she had surrendered to the night before. His intense eyes and rough, possessive touch kept flashing through her mind, making her skin heat up in a way that had absolutely nothing to do with Andrew.

She pushed the thought away, practically running to the shower. She would go to work. The Morrison Art Gallery was her sanctuary.

Later that morning, Charlotte stepped through the glass doors of the gallery, dressed in a sleek, tailored beige suit, her hair pulled back into a perfect, professional knot. She looked polished, professional, and completely in control.

But the moment she walked into the main lobby, she realized something was wrong.

Her assistant, Maya, was practically jogging across the polished marble floor, holding an iPad like a shield.

"Charlotte! Thank God you're here," Maya breathed, her eyes wide. "I was just about to call you."

"What's wrong?" Charlotte asked, instantly slipping into problem-solving mode. "Did the shipment from Milan get delayed again?"

"No, the shipments are fine," Maya said, lowering her voice and glancing nervously toward the VIP viewing room. "It's the gallery. We just received notice that our primary backer sold their majority shares this morning. We have a new owner."

Charlotte froze. "What? That’s impossible. Mr. Vance promised us a month's notice if he ever intended to sell."

"He didn't have a choice," Maya whispered. "The buyer made an aggressive, above-market buyout at seven in the morning. It was ruthless."

Charlotte’s brow furrowed. "Who bought us?"

"Stewart Holdings," Maya said, her voice filled with awe. "And their CEO is in the VIP room right now. He specifically asked for you to give him a private tour of the new collection."

Charlotte’s heart skipped a strange, irregular beat. Stewart Holdings was a massive, multi-billion dollar empire. What would a titan like that want with a mid-sized contemporary art gallery?

"Alright," Charlotte said, straightening her blazer, ignoring the sudden flutter of anxiety in her stomach. "I'll handle him."

She walked across the lobby, her heels clicking decisively against the marble, and pushed open the frosted glass doors of the VIP room.

A man was standing with his back to her, admiring a large, abstract painting. He was wearing a flawlessly tailored charcoal suit that commanded the entire room.

"Mr. Stewart?" Charlotte began smoothly, pasting on her best professional smile. "Welcome to Morrison Gallery. I'm the director, Charlotte—"

The man turned around.

The words died instantly in Charlotte’s throat. All the air was sucked out of the room.

It was him.

The stranger from the bar. The man from the penthouse.

His dark, piercing eyes locked onto hers, and that dangerous, devastatingly handsome smirk slowly spread across his face.

"We didn't properly introduce ourselves this morning, Miss Morrison," Edward Stewart said, his rich baritone voice echoing in the quiet room. "But I told you... I don't like when things are left unfinished.”

By the time Sienna reached the small hotel on the outskirts of the city, the airport was already far behind her.She paid the driver in cash and walked through the narrow glass entrance without looking back. The lobby was quiet, with only the low hum of an air conditioner and the occasional movement of the receptionist behind the desk. She gave a false name, paid for two nights in advance, and accepted the key without asking for anything more than a room. The room was nothing like the places she had been accustomed to.The carpet was worn near the doorway. One corner of the curtains hung slightly crooked, and the bedside lamp had a yellowed shade that cast uneven light across the walls.Sienna placed her handbag on the chair and stood in the center of the room, listening to the unfamiliar silence. For several seconds, she simply stared at the bed, as though waiting for someone to tell her what she was supposed to do next.No one came. She slowly removed her coat and laid it across the

The car rolled beneath the covered entrance of the airport, and the change in surroundings was immediate. Beyond the tinted windows, luggage carts rattled over the pavement, airport staff moved between waiting vehicles, and travelers hurried through the automatic doors with phones pressed to their ears and passports tucked into their hands.Sienna kept her face turned toward the window, watching the stream of strangers disappear into the terminal while her handbag rested against her side. She had spent the entire drive calculating what Edward expected to happen next, and the answer was simple enough: she was supposed to walk into that building, board the plane, and become someone the Stewart family no longer had to think about.Vance turned off the engine but did not immediately get out. He glanced at the clock on the dashboard, then at Sienna, his expression unchanged."We have time before boarding," he said. "I'll stay with you until you're through security."Sienna nodded slowly, f
