Daniel's POV.

I pulled into the driveway just as the sun was starting to come up. The house looked the same as it always did. Big and empty and cold. I turned off the engine and sat there for a minute staring at the front door.

I hadn't been home in two days. I hadn't called. I hadn't sent a message. I knew what was waiting for me inside but I didn't have the energy to care.

I got out of the car and walked to the door. My body felt heavy and my head ached from lack of sleep. I unlocked the

Anabella Pov.Peace.“Peace”. The words felt almost too strange, almost unreal. It felt like that word “peace” didn't exit in my world, or it never did anyways. It was finally going to be in the past, everything I and my boy had gone through was now going to be in the past, I was finally experiencing what it felt like to be at ease.My soul felt relived. My temperature want easing like it would have weeks ago.Everything finally felt stable. One could run for years but couldn't hide from one’s shadow.I had spent years running from reality that I forgot to remember I was living in my answered prayers.I had tried to run away from my past, I had tried to hide my face from the world thinking just maybe they would forget about me and allow me live my life, I had tried to run away to live a normal life and being the best mother to my son Peter but fate had a way of aligning things.Men would give you a loaf of bread and ask you for a full bakery later on, and if you refuse, they would bu

  • The Billionaire Legacy    Chapter 200 : Daniel's Death

John's POV I was in my office signing contracts when my phone rang with a number that I knew was the state correctional facility where Daniel was imprisoned. My heart fell since I was aware that this was not a normal call. The prison authorities do not invite the families of inmates to discuss minor things. This is John Mcqueen, I replied as I laid the contract down. This is Warden Phillips of Redwood State Penitentiary, Mr. Mcqueen. I am calling concerning Daniel Vanguard. I have some bad news to tell you, Warden Phillips, and it is flat and practised. I stood up straight, as I had been half-anticipating this call some weeks before. Daniel had enemies to the right and left. His confession rendered him notorious and there were many people who sought revenge over his deeds. "What happened?" I asked. Warden Phillips said, Mr. Vanguard was killed early this morning in a fight with another inmate. It was down in the yard at recreation in the morning. The medics attempted to drag

  • The Billionaire Legacy    Chapter 199: My Son Peter Is Alive

Anabella Pov.The world didn’t end the night Peter was shot.In fact the works moved on like nothing had happened. But my world stopped the moment the bullet flew through and into his body.A part of me died that minute.I believed there was no coming back from that kind of sound, the sharp shock of a gun, the way my child’s body fell to the ground, the scream that tore out of me before I even understood what I was seeing. I thought that was the moment life would stop making sense forever. But the world kept turning.I felt every pain and aging I had gone through three years ago, the day I pushed him out of me.Cruelly. Quietly. All by myself.I remember the weight of Peter in my arms, how his small body felt too light and too heavy at the same time. I remember blood on my hands, warm and slick, and the way my heart lite in excitement, my ribs painful like I had just undergone a surgery and barely escaped.I remember John’s voice somewhere behind me, shouting my name, shouting for h

  • The Billionaire Legacy    Chapter 198: Vincent Trial II

John's Pov"Were you acquainted with Daniel Vanguard?" Sarah Chen asked Charles. Had he ever employed you or ever done any business with you?"No ma'am," Charles replied. "I had never met Mr. Vanguard. It was just my duty serving the household of Mr. Mcqueen when the explosion took place. So you are an innocent passer-by who has gotten into the revenge mission of Vincent Cole against Daniel Vanguard?"Objection," Webb called out. "Leading the witness."Sustained, Judge Hawthorne said. "Rephrase counselor."Sarah Chen nodded. Was there a reason why Vincent Cole wanted to target you, in particular?Well, not that I am aware of, Charles replied. I did not do it, I was at the wrong time and in the wrong place. The witnessing went on into the afternoon with additional witnesses of the aftermath of the bombing and the hunt after Peter who was kidnapped. When the court broke at the end of the day I was very tired due to the stress of sitting calmly and hearing people relaying traumatic exper

  • The Billionaire Legacy    Chapter 197: Vincent Trial

Annabella's POVIt was three months after the death of Daniel and I was sitting in a busy courtroom and waiting to see the trial of Vincent Cole start. John sat next me on the hard wooden bench with a hand on my knee making silent contact in his silent support and reporters lined the rows behind us ready to write it all down in their notebooks and recording machines.Vincent was accused of kidnapping, attempted murder, various counts of damage of property due to the numerous bombings among other felonies that might cost him decades of imprisonment in case he was found guilty in all charges. The case which the prosecution had thought was airtight had been presented but Vincent defense attorney was countering that he was acting with a desire to bring out the crimes of Daniel and as such that his actions should be treated differently to the normal actions of a criminal.I had spent last week preparing my testimony with the prosecutor and the prosecutor was a woman by the name Sarah Chen

  • The Billionaire Legacy    Chapter 196: The Capture Of Daniel

Daniel pov.The night had a way of passing a message. It looked calm from a distance, the ocean stretching flowing back andforth, black and blue and also calming, , the wind carrying breeze and cold. It looked like freedom. Like escape. But it all felt strange and weried. It was almost battle, the deal was done. The siren was buzzing through the air loud enough and I knew what it sounded like, it sounded like a damn warning. My body moved that moment, my jaw tightened, my chest beating too fast. Then another siren followed. Then another. Red and blue lights flooded the whole place, bouncing violently off the water, off the metal railings, off my skull.Fear consumed me.SWAT.The whole thing too real to be a dream, I held my clothes tightly, my breath hot.“No,” I muttered, my voice barely audible over the noise. “No… this isn’t….. this isn’t right. This wasn't supposed to be happening.I had timed everything. Paid the right people.I had done everything right!.Hell no!.This couldn
