Daniel’s POV.

Mia?

I chuckled.

I paused at the doorway to the parlor, hands trembling just slightly. My eyes flicked to the coffee table, where the laptop sat, lid open like some silent invitation. The USB cord jutted out like a finger pointing straight at me, accusing. My gut churned. I knew what I might find if I looked. I also knew Mia well enough to know she was clever, too clever for me to underestimate. That same brilliance had carried her through years of school, of life, of outsmarting situations, but now, sitting there, it made my blood run cold.

We’d just had a fight. A loud, messy, almost primal argument. Her voice had been sharp, full of panic and indignation, and mine had been louder, more accusatory than I’d meant. I’d demanded explanations she couldn’t give. She’d sworn, sobbed, and swore on her grandmother’s grave that she had nothing to do with John’s sudden release. That she didn’t know a single thing about the CIA document, the PDF, the evidence, none of it.

  • The Billionaire Legacy    Chapter 129: The Ghost Returns

Anabella's POVI could not move. I could not breathe. I just stared at the screen trying to make sense of what I was seeing because it was impossible. David was dead. I attended his funeral five years ago. I watched them lower his casket into the ground. I saw Daniel break down crying at the graveside, his shoulders shaking with what I believed was genuine grief. I remembered holding his hand during the service, feeling his fingers trembling in mine. But here he was staring back at me through the screen very much alive."David?" My voice came out as barely a whisper, my throat constricting around the word.He smiled but there was no warmth in it. The expression was calculated, cold, like a predator observing its prey. "Hello Anabella. I imagine this must be quite a shock for you.""You're dead," I said still trying to process what I was seeing. My mind kept rejecting the image in front of me, insisting this had to be some kind of elaborate trick, a deepfake or hologram. "You died in a

  • The Billionaire Legacy    chapter 128: The Abduction

Annabella's POV.I laid on the prison bed, my mind thinking of what had happened in the last few days. About how they arrested me right there in the hospital while Peter was still sleeping in his bed. About how they just slapped handcuffs on my wrists and dragged me out like I was some kind of monster. Now I was here in this cold gray room with nothing but my thoughts and the sound of footsteps echoing down the hallway outside. I pressed my palms against my eyes trying to stop the panic from rising in my chest but it did not work. All I could think about was Peter waking up without me there. What would he think when he opened his eyes and saw that I was gone? The door suddenly opened with a loud clang that made me jump. A guard stepped inside holding a clipboard. "You have a visitor," he said flatly.I stood up quickly. "Is it my son? Can I see Peter?"The guard shook his head. "It's someone else."He turned and walked out without waiting for me to respond. A moment later John stepped

  • The Billionaire Legacy    Chapter 127: Kellerman

John's POVI gave it a few minutes, then slid into the booth across from Kellerman before he could leave."Dr. Kellerman?"He looked up, startled, his eyes red and watery. Up close, I could see the broken capillaries on his nose, the tremor in his hands. This was a man on the edge of falling apart completely. "Who are you?""John McQueen. I need to talk to you about Daniel Alexandra."His face went from pale to ghost-white in an instant. "I don't know anyone by that name.""Yes, you do. He's been paying you to manufacture poisons. Two hundred thousand dollars over six months. That's a lot of money for someone who can't even make his gambling payments."Kellerman stood up so fast he knocked over his drink, beer spilling across the table and dripping onto the floor. "I don't know what you're talking about.""Sit down." I kept my voice calm but firm. "I'm not a cop and I'm not working for Daniel. I'm trying to help someone he framed for murder. A woman who's sitting in jail right now for

  • The Billionaire Legacy    Chapter 126 : John Investigation

John's POVI couldn't just sit around waiting for lawyers and judges to save Anabella.Marcus was good at his job, one of the best defense attorneys in the state, but the legal system moved too slowly. By the time her trial started, Daniel could have buried all the evidence and intimidated every witness who might speak against him. He had money, connections, and no conscience. That was a dangerous combination. So I took matters into my own hands.I hired three private investigators. The best money could buy. Former FBI agents who knew how to find things people wanted hidden, who understood how criminals thought and operated. They didn't come cheap, but I didn't care about the cost. This was about saving Anabella and protecting Peter."Follow everyone connected to Daniel," I told them during our first meeting in my office. "His employees, his business partners, his friends, anyone who might have helped him. I want to know who he talks to, where he goes, what he eats for breakfast. Ever

  • The Billionaire Legacy    Chapter 125: The Informat

Anabella's POVThree days passed before I saw Claire again.Three long days of sitting in that cell staring at the water stain on the ceiling and wondering if she was okay. The guards wouldn't tell me anything. Marcus came by twice but he didn't have any information either."They're holding her in a different facility," he said. "Fraud charges carry serious penalties. They might not let her out on bail.""Can you talk to her?""I tried. Her public defender won't let anyone near her.""Daniel got to her lawyer."Marcus didn't disagree. On the fourth day, the guard woke me up early. The sun wasn't even up yet and the jail was quiet except for someone coughing in a cell down the hall."Get up," he said. "You have a visitor.""Who?""The woman from before. Claire Jensen."I jumped off the mattress so fast I almost fell. "She's here?""Interview room. Let's go."He led me down the familiar hallway to the same small room with the same table and chairs. Claire was already there but she looke

  • The Billionaire Legacy    Chapter 124: Behind Bars

Anabella's POVThe jail cell was smaller than I expected.I sat on the thin mattress staring at the gray walls and trying to breathe normally. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Daniel's face in that hospital window. That smile. That cold, satisfied smile that told me everything. He won. After everything I did to protect Peter, after all the sacrifices and compromises and pieces of myself I gave up, Daniel still won.My hands were shaking. I pressed them together and squeezed until my knuckles turned white but they wouldn't stop shaking.Peter was alone. My baby was lying in a hospital bed recovering from poison and I wasn't there. I couldn't hold his hand or read him stories or tell him everything would be okay.Because maybe it wouldn't be okay.Maybe I would spend the rest of my life in prison for a crime I didn't commit while Daniel raised my son and twisted him into something dark. The thought made me want to scream but I swallowed it down. Screaming wouldn't help. Crying wouldn'
