CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTY: GHOSTS AND GRIEVANCES

CASPIAN’S POV

The sharp smell of burnt oil and food still lingered faintly in the air, but the smoke detector had finally gone quiet.

We sat opposite each other at the small dining nook near the kitchen window. Between us rested two simple plates of hastily scrambled eggs, toasted sourdough, and sliced avocados, the emergency backup meal we had put together after my ambitious chicken dish went up in flames.

  • The Billionaire That Couldn’t Let Her Go   THE DAWN OF TOMORROW

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN: THE DAWN OF TOMORROWSERENA’S POVInside the living room, the air was rich with the scent of pine, warm vanilla, spiced cider. It was New Year’s Eve.Only a year ago, the turning of the calendar had felt like an ominous march toward an uncertain, painful future. I had been living in a modest apartment, nursing and working to care for surrounded by quiet ghosts and unresolved secrets, while Caspian had been in a lonely fortress of his own making, consumed by bitterness and corporate warfare. My twin sister had been a phantom running from the law, and my brother had been fighting his own silent, agonizing battles. Now, standing on the elevated balcony overlooking the sprawling main drawing room, I rested my hand gently over the noticeable curve of my stomach beneath my gown. A soft, breathless sigh of pure contentment escaped my lips."You're standing near a draft, sweetheart."A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around my waist from behind. Ca

  • The Billionaire That Couldn’t Let Her Go   A NEW DAWN

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SIX: A NEW DAWNSERENA’S POVThe early morning sun poured through the high archways of the master bathroom, painting the marble floors in long, brilliant streaks of amber and gold. Outside, the heavy winter snows had melted, making way for the gentle, crisp breeze of early spring.I stood in front of the vanity, my hands trembling slightly as I stared down at the small plastic stick resting beside the sink. Two solid pink lines burned clearly against the white plastic. My breath caught sharply in my chest, a sudden wave of sweet, dizzying emotion washing over me from head to toe. I lifted my gaze to meet my own eyes in the mirror, my heart hammering a chaotic, joyful rhythm against my ribs.Pregnant.A new life was growing inside me. A child created out of the unbroken, fierce love Caspian and I had fought so hard to reclaim.A gentle knock echoed through the heavy door, shattering the quiet stillness of the room."Serena?" Caspian’s deep, raspy voice ca

  • The Billionaire That Couldn’t Let Her Go   FIREPLACE AND FAMILY

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN: FIREPLACE AND FAMILY SERENA’S POVThe lights of the conservatory reception had faded into a cozy glow as the evening settled deep into Christmas Eve. Outside, the steady snowfall had transformed the estate grounds into a winter kingdom, but inside the main drawing room, the air was thick with warmth, laughter, and the crackle of fire in the massive stone hearth. We had abandoned our formal wedding attire an hour earlier. I was now dressed in a soft, oversized cashmere sweater and comfortable lounge trousers, my hair tied back in a loose, casual braid.Sitting cross legged on the Persian rug right in front of the fireplace was Lucas, aggressively shaking a small, wrapped box as if trying to decode its contents by sound alone. Across from him, leaning back comfortably against the velvet sofa with her legs draped lazily over the cushion, sat Bianca. A crystal glass of sparkling cider rested in her hand, her dark eyes darting between Lucas and the f

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-FOUR: WALKING INTO THE LIGHTSERENA’S POVThe sounds of the string instruments filled the conservatory.Outside the soaring glass walls of the conservatory, a thick blanket of white snow fell softly under the dark Christmas Eve sky. Inside, the conservatory was an enchanted forest of silver light and winter roses. Hundreds of floating candles in cryst hung from the glass dome, casting a soft, golden light across the aisle, which was carpeted thick with white rose petals.I stood behind the closed double doors of the conservatory foyer, my hands trembling slightly against the stem of my bouquet."Stop shaking," Bianca whispered softly from my right, stepping up to adjust the sheer lace of my cathedral veil as it cascaded down my back. "You look so ridiculously gorgeous it's actually unfair."I turned my head to look at my twin sister. She wore a tailored, ice-blue gown that complemented her dark hair. "I'm not nervous about marrying him again, Bia," I m

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-THREE: THREADS OF FOREVERSERENA’S POVThe conservatory had been transformed into a winter wonderland. High glass domes reflected the pale December sunlight, throwing geometric patterns of gold across white marble floors lined with lush garlands of silver eucalyptus, pine needles, and hundreds of fresh white winter roses. With only three days remaining until Christmas Eve, the entire estate was humming with of final wedding preparations.I stood on a velvet-covered ramp in the center of the conservatory, keeping perfectly still while two tailors hovered around me with pins tucked between their lips. Across the room, Bianca was lounging back on al sofa, her ankles crossed, lazily sipping a mug of spiced tea while scrutinizing every fold of my dress like a drill sergeant inspecting a fresh recruit."Lower the left side half an inch," Bianca commanded dryly, gesturing with her mug toward the floor. "The heavy silk on that train is bunching up against her

  • The Billionaire That Couldn’t Let Her Go   MORNING

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-TWO: MORNINGSERENA'S POVThe master suite was cool. The air from the vents brushed my bare shoulders while the space under the duvet stayed warm with the heat of two bodies that had finally stopped running from each other. I lay on my side and watched Caspian sleep. The sharp lines around his mouth had eased. The constant control he wore like armor was gone. His dark hair fell across his forehead, one arm rested heavy over the sheet near my waist. He looked younger. Peaceful in a way the last months had almost made me forget was possible.I reached out and traced a fingertip along the edge of his jaw without waking him. The skin was warm. My chest felt tight with something that was not fear for once. We had survive and somehow we had ended up back in this bed with the door locked and the rest of the world shut out.I decided I did not want him to wake the ordinary way.I shifted carefully under the heavy duvet, the sheet whispered against my skin as I m
