. Chapter 9

Fafane

The past few days, I've been nothing but busy. In my family, they think I'm getting ready for the wedding. In the past, yes, I would be begging Henry to go flower shopping and cake tasting with me, but in my new one, I didn't care about a wedding.

What I care about is making the people who hurt me in the past pay, and one person in particular is my dear sister Tessa. She was the one responsible for my final moment.

Tessa, the woman who had smiled in

Chapter 39 Tessa When did that bitch become smart? I paced across my bedroom, trying to understand where everything had gone wrong. Fafane was supposed to marry Henry and remain obedient, but stayed naive and was easy to control just like she’d always been. Instead, somehow, almost overnight, she’d changed. Why? Did someone get to her? No, that couldn't be it; we'd been too careful. For years, we’d made sure she never realized what was happening around her. Every decision had been disguised as something being done for her own good. We had been so close; all she had to do was marry Henry and sign those damn papers. That was it; once the marriage was finalized, moving the rest of the money would’ve been easy. Instead, she’d ruined everything while our family company was falling apart and Henry’s wasn’t doing much better. And now that Fafane had cut him off, Henry was quickly becoming a useless tool to me. “Why aren’t you naive anymore?” I asked the question into the empty room ev

Chapter 38 Quashawn This was the part of the month I hated being in a suit, sitting behind a desk. Listening to a room full of people tell me how I should run my own damn company. Worse, listening to some of them lie straight to my face about the monthly reports like I was some fool who didn’t know any better simply because I wasn’t here every day. That was the mistake people made with me: they saw the garage, my hands covered in grease, and the cars, and assumed I wasn’t paying attention to anything else. I knew exactly what happened inside Baker Enterprises whether I was sitting behind this desk or underneath a car. I wasn’t listening to a word my assistant, Norman, was saying as I scrolled through the rest of my schedule. It was full of meeting after meeting, then lunch, and my finger stopped. Henry Wilson. Well, well, I looked up. “Why do I have a meeting with Henry Wilson?” Norman immediately checked his tablet. “He has a business proposal that he believes would be benefi

Chapter 37 Fafane Sleep didn’t come easily. I tossed and turned, trying to shut my mind off with no success. It wasn’t until sometime around one in the morning that exhaustion finally won and I let myself sleep. The next morning, I woke up to the smell of coffee. Pushing myself out of bed, I followed the smell and found Quashawn already sitting at the table, dressed and ready for the day, reading something on his phone. “Good morning.” I sat across from him. He immediately put his phone down and looked at me with a smile. “Good morning. Get any sleep?” I shrugged and reached for the coffee. “I had enough.” He stopped buttering the toast in front of him. “That doesn’t sound promising.” I could see the worry slowly creeping onto his face. Ignoring it, I took a sip before putting the cup down. “It’s enough to keep me alive for the day.” Quashawn sighed. “Is something bothering you?” He went back to buttering the toast, but I knew he was waiting for an answer. How could I tell

Chapter 36 Quashawn Sitting behind the desk in my garage office, I couldn’t help smiling as I remembered having her here. In my space, not some fancy office or expensive restaurant, but the greasy garage where I spent most of my time, she looked comfortable. Now she had me wondering if there would ever come a day when I could convince her to crawl under a car with me. I smiled wider because there was hope. The office door opened without a knock, ruining my daydream. Malik walked in like he owned the place. I stared at the ceiling. “Don’t you have a job like normal people do?” He pulled out the chair across from me and sat down. “I am doing my job.” I frowned. “How?” “Annoying you is one of my favorite jobs.” He tossed a few M&M’s into his mouth. I reached across the desk and snatched the tray away from him. “If you don’t have anything serious to say, leave me alone.” He scoffed. “Your wife hired one of my guys.” That got my attention. “Who? And why?” “Because of the info

Chapter 35 Fafane This morning, I woke up feeling relaxed. Better than I had in a long time. Throwing the covers off, I headed for the shower before getting dressed. It wasn’t until I stood in front of the mirror fixing my hair that I noticed the small note stuck to the corner. I pulled it free. “ Breakfast is there. Early clients. Sorry we couldn’t have breakfast together. “.Quashawn. I sighed softly and looked over my shoulder at the breakfast waiting on the table. Without thinking, I poured myself a cup of coffee and sat down to eat, humming quietly as I cut into my eggs. Strangely, the good mood stayed with me when I got into my car. Even when I pulled into the driveway of my family home, knowing exactly what kind of negative energy awaited me inside, my mood never changed. The moment I walked in, I found my parents and Tessa sitting in the living room. Of course they were all home; I don't know what I expected. Maybe an empty house would've been better. I guessed they n

Chapter 34 Quashawn After breakfast, I dropped Fafane off to get her car and watched her drive away before heading to the garage. As soon as I walked in, I knew something was wrong. My employees were gathered around the office, looking everywhere except at me. “What’s going on?” I asked, flipping through the pile of documents on my desk. “Boss, one of your customers is here,” one of them finally said. “What’s wrong with the car?” Silence met my question. I looked up. “Is nobody here able to fix it?” More silence. Jake finally pointed toward the waiting area. “She wants you personally.” The second they said that, I knew who it was. I dropped the papers on my desk and went to change before heading out. “Good morning, Ms. Fatima. What’s going on with the car?” I asked while we walked around her car. She leaned against it, her long nails tracing the hood. “It’s making a weird sound, and there’s a light blinking.” I made a note before checking the dashboard and looking under th
