Chapter 1 — Memory Inequality: What Actually Happened?

##Chapter 1 — Memory Inequality: What Actually Happened?

The brunette girl began to blink her eyes. The light began to dazzle her eyes that had been closed tightly for quite a while.

As she looked at the surroundings, the first thing she found was a group of doctors in their dazzling white coats. 'Damn it, why does the doctor's suit have to be white?' cursed Veronica to herself. The girl can't speak yet, it feels hard to make her voice.

But hold on, why did she see so many doctors in front of her?

"Yeah, I remember. I chased Veron and my car hit several trucks." Damn, am I now paralyzed so that's why it's so hard for me to talk?' Inwardly, Veronica continued to speak.

Veronica heard the doctors in white coats chatting while facing someone. As she averted her gaze, Veronica found her grandfather's figure to be there with a somber face.

Veronica tried to scream, but she didn't have the strength to do that. Suddenly the girl regretted, why is she so stupid to drive a car recklessly in order to chase Vernon? Even the man doesn't care about it! You fucking thing! I hope you're the one who's dead, Vernon!

Drowsiness again attacked Veronica, the girl in hospital pajamas slowly closed her eyes.

'Damn, why is it that at times like this I'm actually getting sleepy?'

Soon, Veronica was no longer able to maintain her consciousness. She closed her eyes and fell asleep for the second time.

When Veronica regained consciousness, she didn't notice anyone in the area. She looked up at the ceiling of the VVIP hospital room, which she assumed to be at Ahomana Hospital, and groaned dejectedly.

The Moonfall family does travel to the hospital, which has been owned by the Rathmore family for many years, for medical care. Her grandpa, incidentally, was among the first workers who contributed to the construction of the Ahomana hospital.

"You've come to your senses, Veronica?" a middle-aged woman's voice screeched over.

Unlike before, when she was in the hospital for the first time after an accident, Veronica can now move her body. Her voice even returned.

Perhaps she had previously carried out a significant procedure, and when she awoke from her anesthesia, she went back to how she was. Veronica feigned a grin, thinking that her grandfather must be to blame. It's true that her granddad adores her. Perhaps if she requested her grandfather to build a rocket for her so she could travel to Mars, he would certainly comply.

    "What has happened to me?"

"You forgot?" asked Maggie—the butler at the Moonfall family home—with a frown on her face.

"No, I didn't forget at all." Veronica answered quickly. She shook her head. "I deeply remember that I had an accident on the main road of Orion. I avoided a large truck, but I was actually hit by several cars. It's terrible, isn't it?"

Maggie, who was now sitting in a chair next to the patient's bed, looked at Veronica with furrowed brows. Before long, the woman laughed loudly.

Maggie's laughter made Veronica furious. "Damn it, you like me to have this kind of accident? Oh... you wish I was dead? You must be happy if one of your masters meets his death."

Maggie instantly stopped laughing. "Oh my God... Vero, I never thought of it that way." Maggie fretted immediately. She realized that she had been laughing at her young lady's current condition for a long time. "I'm just laughing at that essay of yours," Maggie continued. "Have you not regained consciousness from your dream?"

       "It's not funny, Mag!"

Maggie sighed heavily. "I'm serious. Indeed, you didn't have an accident. For Heaven's Sake! You just fell slip off the stairs that were in front of the house. You know, when Bastien found out about the incident, he finally destroyed the ladder."

"You're kidding me?" asked Veronica. Her face was upset because Maggie was actually discussing the stupid incident again. Veronica still remembers clearly how she once slipped from the front steps of her luxurious home from having to chase her fiancé.

'Damn, why do I still just remember that bastard guy? After all where is he... He should be here right? I just had a bad accident. Indeed, Vernon is basically a jerk man!' said Veronica cursing at her evil fiancée again.

"I'm not kidding. For Heaven's Sake! Is it possible that you have amnesia?" asked Maggie as she got up from the chair she was sitting in. She leaned closer to Veronica's face and then sputtered.

Veronica doesn't understand what Maggie is doing. "Don't act silly, Mag! You want me to tell Grandpa?"

Maggie shook her head as she reaffirmed her body. "You did get hurt in the head, maybe you forgot your memory!" Maggie made her own conclusions. "I'd better call a doctor now! You're waiting here. Don't go anywhere!"

"Hey wait, Mag! I...." Not finished speaking, Maggie was already out from inside her nursery. "Damn it, what exactly happened?"

Veronica looked at herself. Maggie's departure made her realize that under her hospital gown her body was fine.

'This is weird,' Veronica muttered to herself. 'There's no way I'm okay when I had a horrible accident yesterday!' Even to imagine the accident she went through yesterday, Veronica didn't want to. It felt like she was scared, sick, and horrified.

So, why is her current body okay? Again, Veronica just realized something about Maggie. Why is Maggie's hair back long? Did she do hair extension at her subscription salon?

Holding her head, Veronica didn't even find a circular bandage there. She only found a small bandage on her forehead. As she pressed the small wound on her head, Veronica immediately cried out in pain.

"Damn, it hurts so much!" Veronica grumbled at the pain she felt.

As Maggie re-opened the door to her treatment room, the man dressed as doctor Vorinica recognized approached. He's a friend of his late father, Archie Cliffton.

"Hello, Veronica!" greeted Mr. Cliffton at the girl sitting on the patient's bed. His face was kind, the smile on his face seemed to soothe Veronica. Soon maybe Veronica will know everything that Maggie talks inconspicuously!

"Let me check your condition first, okay?" Mr. Cliffton smiled. He wore a stethoscope—which had been hanging around his neck—to his ears.

Veronica lay back comfortably and then watched Mr. Cliffton's face. Nothing changed except Veronica felt that the man by profession was younger than the last time she met.

Veronica remembers the last time she met Mr. Cliffton when she accompanied her grandfather for a routine medical check-up this month. And their meeting would probably be scheduled for next week, if only she hadn't had the ill-fated accident.

"All good! There's nothing to worry about," Mr. Cliffton said, his friendly smile looking genuine. The smile she remembers has been long gone since her son died by suicide.

"Ehm, Vero... do you remember, what happened to you until you entered the hospital?" asked Mr. Cliffton.

Veronica gave Maggie an annoyed look. The woman must have spoken carelessly to Mr. Cliffton. "As I recall... I had an accident. The car I drove drove pretty fast that night. I avoided the big truck in front of me, but when I slammed the steering wheel, my car was hit by another loaded car. Anyway, I had a bad accident!" said Veronica with her serious face.

Unlike Maggie—who laughed when she first told me—Mr. Cliffton actually had a serious face.

"Have I been in surgery, Mr. Cliffton? I feel that my whole body is fine. I'm really very grateful. Even I don't have any scars on my body. This is incredible!"

Mr. Cliffton smiled kindly. "You're not in surgery at all, Veronica. You just get stitches on your head. Even then, it was only three stitches. If it has dried up and you don't like the marks, we can talk about plastic surgery to smooth your face again. That's an easy thing!"

Veronica blinked her eyes a few times. "What? I'm not in surgery at all? Then why am I okay?"

"You're fine because you didn't have an accident like you told me you did, Veronica," Meggie returned to voice.

"So you think I'm just talking nonsense?" Veronica didn't want to hear Maggie's explanation. "You think, I'm crazy!" she squealed full of anger.

"What Margaretta said is true, Veronica," Mr. Cliffton said, causing Veronica's anger to turn into confusion.

"Damn, what exactly happened to me?" asked Veronica. She didn't understand what happened to her.

Me why? []
