Chapter 2 – Her Visit

Klyde looked at the young woman waiting for him at his floor. His secretary introduced her as Melissa Franklin. Hearing her name, he seemed to recognize it. Ah, William’s brat. She saw the moment recognition was shown in his face. It was only for a moment, then his expression returned to one of coldness. It felt as if he’s looking down on her. It made her frown and glare at him.

She didn’t greet him, so he merely gestured for her to follow him inside his office. Inside, he threw a question at her.

“To what do I owe this visit?” His tone was filled with sarcasm.

Melissa rolled her eyes at him. Is he really forty-six?

“You still have to ask? I’m sure you know.”

Klyde turned around and sat on his chair, raising an eyebrow at her.

“Do I? I don’t recall anything. I have another meeting in thirty minutes and you’re eating up my break time. Get to the point.”

Ugh. She’s starting to feel exasperated.

“My allowance for this month? Send it to my bank account.”

“Allowance? What are you, thirteen?”

“I’m twenty-three.” She was gritting her teeth now.

“Twenty-three, and you’re still asking for allowance?”

Melissa took a deep breath. “My dad sends me money every month. Since you’re handling his fortune, send me my money.”

Klyde frowned at her and merely stared, studying the woman in front of him.

She felt his gaze roaming her body.

“Are you checking me out?” She couldn’t help but ask, she’s wearing a tight dress that shows off her body figure. The skirt only covers half her thighs. She’s not sure what to feel. The guy is her dad’s best friend, but sure… he looks hot and not too old.

He didn’t answer immediately. After a minute, he leaned back on his chair.

“Since you’re old enough, don’t you have work? What’s your source of income?”

“My dad? I don’t work.” She only graduated from university a year ago, but she’s not keen on getting a job. She did try applying twice, but she was rejected. She believes she won’t like office work, anyway.

A smirk appeared on Klyde’s face. This woman knows nothing in life, does she?

“Well, you better start working, then. In the will, I was only tasked to manage your father’s existing businesses until you’re thirty. There’s no stipulation there that I should disburse funds to you.”

Her expression turned ugly and he smiled at her annoyance.

“Are you kidding? I’ve always received a monthly allowance from my dad since high school. You can’t just discontinue that, so abruptly.”

“Well, I understand your dad’s death was sudden. You weren’t expecting it to happen, did you? I’ll speak with the lawyer when I have time and confirm with her if I need to give you allowance. I can see now why William didn’t let you inherit his wealth at this stage. You’re just going to waste all of it.” He gestured for her to go. He still needs to go over a document for his next meeting.

Melissa is already fuming now. “Why don’t you speak with her now? I’m sure you have her contact number. I need the money today, is that difficult to understand? I’m behind on rent and bills. I was expecting money on my bank ten days ago.”

Klyde finds her voice irritating at this point. He lightly glared in her direction.

“Don’t you have any savings? Investments you can sell? Don’t tell me you’re not prepared for a rainy day? Or in this case, a rainy season?”

Melissa huffed, trying hard to contain herself and not explode in anger. This situation really caught her off guard. Klyde watched her do this. It’s amusing and disappointing at the same time. William hasn’t taught her daughter basic finance principles? That’s a pity. He knew the father and daughter weren’t close, but for her to end up like this? He can’t help but think William failed as a father. His solution was to dump money at her feet every month? If he was her father, she would’ve been working since high school.

“Would you give me money, or not? Let’s do it this way. You can give it to me now, you discuss it with the lawyer later, and you reimburse yourself from my father’s fortune. I’m sure the lawyer would agree anyway. I’ll leave my bank details with your secretary. I’m sure it’s not something you do on your own. Do we understand each other, Mr. Henderson?”

She didn’t actually wait for his response. She turned around and left his office. Outside, she took deep breaths before facing his secretary and writing down her bank details on a memo pad. She smiled at the woman before leaving his company. He was difficult to deal with. She expects him to send the money anytime today.

But Klyde has no intention of doing what she asked. The girl has an unpleasant attitude, must be because William spoiled her. She’s used to doing things her own way but it’s time she realizes that’s not how the world works.

He expects to see her within the week. He asked his secretary to arrange a meeting with William’s lawyer.
