Chapter Thirty-three—Who did it??

The NYPD Precinct was as haggard as it looked. Gianna’s nose twitched at the stench of hardened criminals, from drug dealers to homeless crackheads. She could even hear the murmurs from the jailed hookers who thought she was too posh, and the catcalls from the other hardened offenders made her shudder as she was being escorted to the detective’s table.

They didn’t put cuffs on her which she was thankful for, after all she was being accused of a crime she had no business committing. Aiden almost put up a fight, wanting to punch an officer who tried to rough handle her on the face. Luckily she was levelheaded, agreeing to cooperate to avoid catching the media’s eye.

“It was quite the performance you put out to the press Miss Lawson.” The detective murmured as he whipped out a Pen, Gianna couldn’t help but notice the peculiar mole sticking out of his sideburn.

She frowned, folding her arms lightly, “I don’t know what

Chapter Fifty-Six—The yacht Escapade The air was alive and well. The sound of laughter and clinking glasses filled as the guests mingled about. Waiters in their pristine white uniforms circulated the area with trays of champagne, wine and little canapés. A live band played at the corner, a mixture of jazz and Russian classical. The sleek Yacht sliced through the gleaming Yacht. The blue inscription ‘MALDOV’ at the edge could be clearly seen. The interior was a masterpiece of modern design, polished wood and plush rugs which shone with all it’s gold accents. It had a spacious deck, one where the who’s and who’s if society flayed about. The danced as the party lights flickered to life, casting a warm glow over the party goers. Gianna spotted Maldov from where she stood, his sultry expression made her skin crawl but she reveled in the attention. Sipping on her glass of wine, he raised his glass nudging it in her direction and she flashed him an infectious smile.

Chapter Fifty-Five—Clearing the Misunderstanding(3) An hour later he paced back and forth in Mason’s apartment. The smell of pot roast in wine reduction and sizzling vegetables wafted into the hair, it made his mouth water but there were more pressing matters at hand. He was angry, and more than angry, he was devastated to be in such a tight position. Summer, that bitch, he thought. She’d gone through extra lengths to sabotage his already condemned relationship with Gianna. It took a lot to get to this point, to get her to look him in the eye and now his past fling had ruined everything. It was one thing for Gianna to think of him as the man who ruined her life, stole her family’s fortune from under her eyes—now she saw him as a cheater. He never looked in the eyes of another woman throughout the course of their marriage, seldomly slept with any of them when it was dissolved. He only had one night of bliss with Summer, one he barely remembered the events of

Chapter Fifty-four—Clearing the Misunderstanding (2) Hours later into closing, Janine smiled at her paycheck. She was finally going to buy herself the red bottoms she’d been ogling at the flea market. It’s been her second month at LAWSON Corp and she couldn’t be happier. As she giggled down the stairs of stairs of the company building, her smile suddenly died down the moment she caught a glimpse of a familiar Black Ventura. She gulped hard, slowly the window reclined and alas! Her former boss. “Get in.” Justin muttered, his tone didn’t carry any indications of a comment, rather a plea. She frowned, crossing her arms lightly, “One, I don’t work for you anymore so you can’t tell me what to do. Two, you’re not allowed on the company premises.” Justin sighed deeply, her hostility towards him was well deserved, “I’ll make it worth your while.” He said and after she didn’t budge, “Please.” She gasped, hearing those words for the first tim

Chapter Fifty-three—Clearing the Misunderstanding A loud applause erupted all over the room right after Gianna had finished giving her speech. She thanked everyone, bowing in courtesy as she walked down the podium. Just then Justin had made his way back into the room, perfect timing she thought, the devil returns when the Glory is all over. She wanted him to see, the relish in all his past glory, she wanted to see him green with envy. The speech was perfect, the gobsmacked look on his face would’ve been the cherry on top. The bastard cheater, she thought again as their eyes met only for a second. All smiles, as she shook the hands of the other esteemed guests who congratulated her. “Marvelous speech you gave up there.” She heard, her head turned around. Rowan Maldov. A Russian congressman and from an esteemed conglomerate family, Gianna knew him all too well, ruthless in all his nature. Rowan was known for hijacking companies by force, from unsusp

He watched her every move intently, as she wove her way into the crowd, it felt like she was in her natural element. Smiling, flirting, laughing even though the jokes weren’t that funny. It was tug on his heart, a hard tug. Years ago he never believed the timid woman who he always met back home after a long day of work, would finally outshine him in his own element. Envy, regret, shame….it all washed him this afternoon. “Yikes it’s hot in here.” He heard Mason say as he took a glass of champagne from his hands. He frowned, “What are you doing here?” Mason chuckled, “It’s the international business summit. Everyone important is here,” glancing around to study the room when he spotted Jeff Micheal’s being smitten by Gianna, “Your ex wife is a charmer huh?” “Shut up Mason

Chapter Fifty-one—Lies..it’s all lies(2) The international business summit. The one time Justin felt the most fulfilled, not the Forbes ball, not wining an award, not by the amount he got paid every month. Just the summit, and the speech he has to give. Belinda was effective, returning with a new suit from Armani which she claimed was hard to get with his measurements and all, she had to bribe the sales attendant just to get a custom suit in his size. He was satisfied with the result as he stared at his reflection in the mirror, hoisted at the far end of his new office. He liked what he saw. “Let’s go Belinda.” He muttered, checking his watch to see they only had an hour left. The drive to the grand hotel was only thirty minutes away and he definitely didn’t want to be late. Belinda, famished and tried from the errand she just ran blinked, “Sir??” “You’re coming with me.” He muttered, brushing past her as he made for the exit. She would ra
