“I'm sorry Mrs Sawyer. You're not pregnant” The female doctor announced to the lady before her. The initial gleam she saw in her eyes vanished and washed away after she broke the news to her.

Maya accepted the report the doctor extended to her, she opened it to see what the report was all about.

“How can this be possible? My period is late. And also I've been throwing up lately” Maya explained amidst tears. She clutched the papers to her chest sobbing softly.

It's been two years since she got married and just a few months back, she had suggested to her husband that they should start having kids. Her husband, Cameron, was one who travelled a lot and this made her lonely everytime.

That was the more reason she wanted to have a baby so bad.

“Look ma'am, there's nothing to be sad about. Your period was only late and you've been throwing up because of an allergic reaction to something you ate” 

Maya nodded her head to the doctors words and stood up from her chair. She sniffed back and raised her tear filled face to the doctor.

“Thanks. I'll be on my way now” 

She turned around moving to the door slowly. She still couldn't believe that she wasn't pregnant. For once she had believed that a soul was growing in her tummy but all she felt now was emptiness.

Once her hand gripped the knob twisting it, she heard the doctor speak again behind her.

“Mrs Sawyer hold on a minute” 

Maya turned sharply to the doctor with an interested look in her teary brown eyes.

“Listen. I know how desperate you've been trying to conceive in the last few months. But there's a method I'd like to recommend” 

Maya's eyes brightened up instantly, she wiped her face with the back of her palm ready to listen to whatever the doctor had to say.

At this point, she was desperate to do anything as long as she'd have a child to call her own.

“Really? What is it doctor?”

“Artificial insemination?” 

Maya nodded her head looking up at her husband with so much gleam in her eyes. She watched his expression to check for any hesitation and when she found none, she continued saying..

“Yes. The doctor at the hospital recommended that to me” 

Cameron, Maya's husband, dropped his cutlery down harshly against his plate. He moved his chair back before rising up to his feet.

“This madness has to stop Maya!” 

Maya was taken aback by his cold tone. She stood up and followed behind him as he walked up the stairs in fast pace.

“Cameron!” 

She called his name as soon as they both entered their bedroom. Cameron walked to the large floor to ceiling window staring at the city below.

“I'm talking to you!” She yelled once more for him to turn around to face her. His face was red in anger.

“What do you expect me to say? We've tried everything we could to make you conceive based on different doctors opinion. What makes you think that this time this absurd method you just brought up would work?..just accept the fact that you can't conceive-

No sooner had the word dropped out of his lips, a slap followed suite. Maya pushed his chest.

“Cameron! Do you have any idea of how lonely I feel when you leave for those business trips of yours that last for months?! You think I can't conceive too?” 

Maya broke down into tears. Nothing hurts more than when you're a woman and you can't conceive a child. Though her marriage was just two years old, she could count the number of times she had been intimate with her husband during those two years.

Realizing his mistake, Cameron reached for her arm but she avoided his touch like he was a disease she didn't want to have contact with.

Maya dragged her feet lazily towards the large bed where she took a seat. Her sobs filled the room.

It broke Cameron to see her like that, he sighed deeply cussing himself for his sudden outburst.

“Maya I'm sorry” 

He moved closer to her where he sat on his heels before her.

“I'm such an idiot..Please. I'm so sorry for what I said. I'm willing to do anything as long as it will make you happy” 

He raised his hands to her face wiping off the tears on her face.

“I'm sorry baby” 

Cameron stood to his feet and hugged her to pacify her.

The next morning, the two drove to the hospital after they finally agreed to go through the process. Everyone who passed by the couple could see how Maya looked so elated.

She had spent all night suggesting baby names and room themes if eventually their little one was born. 

Cameron however looked rather impatient, he couldn't wait for this whole process to get over so he could leave from here.

“What of Olivia or Bella?” Maya asked curiously peeking over at Cameron's phone to see what he was up to. However, he hid his phone back into his pocket.

“Maya. We've discussed this issue at home. Let's get the news first and stop getting your hopes up” Even though he tried not to sound harsh, his words did.

Maya rolled her eyes and turned around to leave his side but ended up bumping into a firm build hurrying in.

His reflexes was quite fast. His arm went round her waist to prevent her from hitting the ground. 

A low gasp left her lips as the figure's face flashed before her bright eyes.

He was a tall, chiseled figure in his late twenties or early thirties, with piercing blue eyes and a sharp jawline. His dark hair was perfectly permed, and his sharp features were accentuated by a slight scruff.

 He wore an impeccable black suit and white shirt on the inside.A slight crease between his eyes, suggesting a deepening of his worry lines or annoyance perhaps.

His cologne waft through her nostrils filling her lungs. Maya had no idea how long she had wasted staring into his eyes until she felt herself being pushed away.

Luckily, Cameron was right behind her. He caught her on time. After Maya regained her stance she snapped her head to the man ready to lash out at him for pushing her that way but to her surprise, She saw a lady standing next to him with a cold glare.

“Keep your dirty paws off my man! Your cheap trick to get his attention won't work at all” The dark haired lady on a red mini gown spoke while she held his arm possessively.

Maya took a step forward but was held back by Cameron before she could do anything drastic. 

“Let go Cameron! Do you see her bad attitude? She thinks I'm interested in her ugly man!” 

The young man's aura was off. His eyes narrowed down at the little woman who just called him ugly.

“Hey! Watch your mouth lady!” The lady on red warned but was led away by the young man with her.

“Lousy” He snorted which Maya heard clearly..

“Cameron did you hear that?! How mannerless of them. They both deserve each other” She mumbled in irritation. They had managed to spoil her mood by appearing before her. 

After a hour of waiting, Cameron was led to a room while Maya waited behind where a few women were waiting too. It appeared that she wasn't the only one who chose this method to have a baby.

Last night, Maya made a nude video of herself and sent it to Cameron. This was one of the easiest way to collect samples from Cameron. She bit her nails while pacing around hoping for everything to go well.

“Are you that shameless? You actually followed us here” 

Maya turned to her side when she heard the oddly familiar voice. Her pupils dilated in anger. This was the same rude woman who had insulted her earlier.

“You!” She seethed in annoyance.

“Oh please. Shut up! My fiance won't even look at a pathetic person like yourself dirt pig!” 

Annoyed by the words the other lady was spurting, Maya grabbed her by her hair and sent a slap to her face.

The other women were alerted immediately. They rushed forward to separate the two ladies who were shamelessly clawing at each other but one of them ended up bumping into a nurse holding a tray with a few bottles on it.

“Maya!” 

Cameron who was just stepping out of the Ward reached for her and successfully pulled her hands off the rude lady's hair. 

“Maya control yourself! For God's sake this is a hospital” 

Maya pointed a finger to the lady who started all these. The man she was with earlier pulled her to his side too when she was about to launch an attack on Maya.

“Jessica! Behave yourself!” 

Surprisingly the lady named Jessica turned to her husband or whatever he was to her and released herself from his hold.

“Don't tell me to calm down Kelvin! She started it and I won't let her go easily do you get that?!”
