Nathan walked lightly into his family’s luxurious mansion. A smile spread across his lips when he saw a middle-aged woman sitting on the sofa in the living room, enjoying a cup of green tea.

His mood was lifted instantly, simply because he had heard that his wife had breastfed their baby. The anger that had once surged inside him vanished in an instant.

“Did you just come back from the hospital?” asked Mawar.

Seeing the joy radiating from her handsome son’s face, Mawar knew that Nathan was in a good mood.

“Yes, Mom,” Nathan replied with a smile. He then sat down on a different sofa, facing the beautiful woman who, despite her age, still had graceful features.

“How is my grandchild’s condition?” Mawar asked.

“Earlier, Doctor Jhon said that my child’s condition has improved a lot. His weight has increased by three ounces.”

“Really? That makes me so happy. Tomorrow I’ll go to the hospital—I already miss my grandchild.” The news Nathan shared truly delighted the grandmother.

“Why donate them? Alex’s clothes can still be used for his younger sibling later,” Martin disagreed with his wife’s decision.“Martin, for his sibling later we can buy new ones. It wouldn’t be fair if Julia’s baby is given used things like these,” Elizabeth explained softly.“For our own child, dear. So we don’t need to buy new baby supplies again.”Elizabeth let out a small laugh, masking the pain in her heart. “I’m still traumatized by giving birth. Besides, the delivery costs aren’t even paid yet. The interest grows every month, plus a ten percent fine if we’re late. And I can’t bear to look at Alex’s clothes. That’s why I want to donate them to the orphanage. There must be many babies there who can use them.”Martin nodded. He understood his wife’s feelings.“Martin, you’ll be gone for quite a while. Can I ask for some money for food? I don’t have any left. The fridge is empty, the rice is gone, and the electricity token is almost finished,” Elizabeth said at length.“Yes, I’ll gi

Divorce!Sherly panicked as soon as she heard that word come out of Nathan’s mouth.“You can’t just divorce me like that. Remember our marriage agreement!” she threatened.Nathan only laughed at his wife’s intimidation. “I never forgot that agreement. I still keep the document. And with that, I can divorce you without giving a single cent.”“Honey, you won’t be able to divorce me that easily!” Sherly insisted, convinced that Nathan’s words were nothing more than an empty threat. But Nathan’s gaze was cold and firm. “You already know me well. Two years we dated, three years we’ve been married. You know very well, if I said I would divorce you, then I will never take my words back.”Sherly began to soften, her voice lowering. “Honey… I don’t want us to divorce. I’m sorry. I know I was wrong. I just need time to finish my work here. Please, understand…”Divorce was the thing she feared the most. How could she willingly lose the greatest source of wealth that made her live like a queen?“

Nathan let out a bitter smile as he heard his wife’s voice over the phone. For a moment, he thought Sherly was calling to ask about their child. He was wrong. After disappearing for three weeks without a word, she came back only to talk about money.“Money?” Nathan repeated flatly.“Yes, darling. My monthly allowance,” Sherly whined.“What are you asking for?” Nathan pressed, his teeth clenched to hold back his anger.“Why did you freeze all my cards? And why haven’t you sent my allowance? It was supposed to be in my PayPal account on the fifth, but now it’s already the tenth. This month I want five hundred thousand dollars. I have so many needs. I also want to buy shoes, bags, jewelry. Honestly, five thousand dollars isn’t even enough—I need one million,” Sherly snapped. With her credit cards blocked and no monthly transfer coming in, Sherly felt frustrated. She couldn’t shop, party, or spend her nights at clubs as usual. Even the income from her contracts was already gone.Nathan st

Elizabeth could no longer endure the pain and dizziness tormenting her. As soon as Martin’s family left the house, her body collapsed, fainting helplessly. No one knew how long she had been unconscious. When she finally woke up, her body shook violently, chills seeping into her bones. She was still lying in the same spot. Martin had left just like that, without even trying to move her onto the bed.If only he had never spoken the words “love” or “darling,” perhaps the wound would not cut this deep. Her gaze was empty, lips curling faintly as she recalled the words of her husband’s second wife. Her tears had long dried. At only nineteen years old, she had already endured so much with unimaginable struggle. Before the marriage, Martin’s family strongly rejected her. Yet in the end, they still married—though without legal recognition. The marriage was valid in the eyes of religion but not in the eyes of the state. Then they lived apart, separated by distance.Elizabeth once felt grateful

“Let’s just wait, Ma. I don’t want my wife to undergo surgery,” Mery insisted firmly.“If the family still refuses, then you must sign a statement. It declares that the family rejects the referral to the hospital.” The midwife pulled out a sheet of paper and handed it to Martin.Midwives were trained to assist only in normal deliveries. But in cases like this, the patient had to be handled by an obstetrician.Martin fell silent, glancing at his mother. His hand trembled, hesitant to sign. What if his wife and child didn’t survive, all because he couldn’t make the right decision?“It’s fine, just sign it. Childbirth is always like this. I went through the same thing when I gave birth to you. Some women even endure contractions for a full month, yet both mother and baby survive. Your wife is just being spoiled—the pain isn’t that bad.” Mery’s words carried no trace of empathy.Despite the anxiety crushing his chest, Martin still signed the paper, obeying his mother’s command. If he had

“Divorce? How easily those words come out of your mouth. Pay the forty million rupiah childbirth debt first, then you may divorce Martin.”Thud!Elizabeth froze at the mention of a forty-million debt. What debt?Mery pulled a folded paper from her bag and placed it in front of Elizabeth. A debt agreement.“When you gave birth, Martin only had five million. The remaining twenty-five million, he borrowed from me. It’s written clearly here—you owe twenty-five million with ten percent monthly interest and a ten percent late fee. Since you haven’t paid for three months, the penalty is one and a half million. The interest is seven and a half million. That makes forty million in total.” Mery spoke casually, as if she wasn’t stabbing her daughter-in-law’s heart.“After the wedding reception is over and they return from their honeymoon, you’ll be living in my house.” Mery smiled, watching Elizabeth’s pale face without a shred of sympathy. She had been waiting for this moment.
