Nicole's pov

I stood there completely dumbfounded. For a few seconds, I couldn’t even move or think properly. I finally understood what Tamara had done. I had walked straight into her trap without realizing it.

The reporters immediately surrounded me, their cameras flashing repeatedly as they pushed closer.

“Dr. Nicole, you took a dying woman’s husband, and you are bullying her too?” one of them asked.

Another reporter raised her voice. “You are a doctor. Aren’t doctors supposed to care about

Nicole's pov Andre agreed to have dinner with me. After hours of going through the files, I was finally done. I closed the last folder and leaned back in my chair, I blinked a few times. My eyes felt heavy.I rubbed them gently and looked at the clock on the wall. I hadn't even realized how much time had passed. My body felt tired, and all I wanted to do was get up from the desk and take a break.I packed everything neatly into the drawer and pushed it shut, letting out a long breath of relief.I grabbed my bag and walked out of the hospital. The cool night air hit my skin as I stepped outside. I stretched my arms toward the sky, feeling the tension in my shoulders finally start to loosen. I remembered I hadn't texted Andre yet. I pulled out my phone and quickly sent him a message, letting him know I was on my way and sending him the restaurant's address.I dropped my phone back into my bag and spotted the man I had performed surgery on a few days earlier, the one whose wife had

Nicole's pov “I called the reception desk number over and over, but no one answered.” The voice came from behind me again. My heart suddenly started beating faster. I knew that voice.I quickly lowered my face, pretending to be busy with something on the desk, careful not to turn around."I'm so sorry, I have a customer here," the receptionist said quickly, her hands fidgeting nervously on the desk."That's not an excuse," the voice behind her snapped, sharp enough that a few nearby guests turned their heads. The person behind me had turned to leave, but a moment later he came back, walking toward me instead, his footsteps steady against the tile."I'm so sorry for the interruption," he said.I slowly turned to look at him, my heart still beating fast from earlier. I was already expecting the worst, but it wasn't Andrew. It was the hotel manager. He was dressed in a dark suit, with an apologetic look on his face and his hands folded in front of him.I let out a long breath of relief,

  • The Billionaire's Biggest Regret    Chapter 54

Nicole's pov My eyes landed on my father, Andrew, standing at the reception desk, deep in conversation with the receptionist. I suddenly held my breath, shocked by what I saw, and I quickly pressed myself back against the wall, hiding my face from view, staying frozen there for what felt like several long minutes. My heart was beating so loud I was almost sure someone would hear it.When I finally peeked out again, slowly, carefully, the spot at the desk was empty. I scanned the lobby from one end to the other, my eyes moved over the small seating area, the revolving door, the elevator bank, but he was nowhere in sight. My mind raced, trying to make sense of why he would be here, alone, in this exact hotel of all the hotels in the city. It couldn't be a coincidence. I glanced around once more, making sure the way was fully clear, before I finally stepped out from behind the wall and walked toward the reception desk. My bag settled onto the counter with a soft thud as I approach

Nicole's pov "That's daddy," Jayden said, his small finger still resting on the drawing. I looked at Emma for a brief second, then turned back to face him. "Jayden," I said, and paused. I didn't know what to say next. The words got caught somewhere in my throat. "Jayden, you know daddy isn't with us," I finally said, searching for the right way to end this conversation before it went any further. "He's in heaven." Jayden turned his head to look up at me, his small brows pulling together in confusion. "Mommy, where is heaven?" he asked, resting his little hand against my arm. I stayed quiet for a moment, unsure how to answer, and glanced at Emma, silently hoping she would know what to do. This was the first time Jayden had ever asked about his father. That question scared me more than anything else. But I already knew what I had to do. I would never tell him his father was alive. I would never let him meet David, not now, not ever. It was safer this way, safer for both

Nicole's pov I turned to look behind me, and my eyes landed on Andre standing there, his hand pressed flat against the door, stopping it from opening further. My breath caught in my throat for a second, unsure what was happening. He stepped forward quickly, wrapping an arm gently around me and pulling me back a step, then raised a finger to his lips, his eyes darting toward the hallway behind us. I froze, my heart raced in my chest. I didn't say a word for a while. A moment later, I heard footsteps approaching from somewhere close. The sound grew louder with every second, before they slowly faded away, walking off in another direction. I let out the breath I had been holding, my shoulders sagged slightly with relief. The footsteps disappeared completely and I pushed Andre away from me, needing the space back, needing air between us. His closeness made my skin crawl after everything that had happened between us. He stumbled slightly, and right at that moment, the

Nicole's pov I walked out of the director's office, leaving Andre standing there without another word between us. My feet carried me straight back to my own office and the moment I stepped inside, I began pacing left and right, my mind racing to find a way to slip out of the hospital without running into another crowd of cameras. A worried thought crept up on me. What if the reporters had somehow found out about the apartment we had been staying in? What if they had already dug that far?The fear settled deep in my chest, and I decided right then that I needed to leave, and fast. I walked to the window and peeked through the blinds, my eyes scanning the entrance below. My stomach twisted. They were still there, a cluster of them, cameras hanging from their necks, some pacing, some standing with their phones raised.I grabbed my phone off the desk, meaning to call David, but my thumb stayed over his name for a long moment before I set the phone back down on the table without dialin
