Damien's POV

When Lucien asked me to meet at his office, I didn't know his intentions. I was actually surprised because in all the years he's been teaching, he has never asked me to help with a student's employment.

Lucien could stop teaching if he didn't want to, he was one of the major shareholders at D.B. do he was a millionaire in his own rights, it's something he loves though and I'm not against it in anyway.

In the two weeks interval between Mia and my first meeting and the time we met in his office, I've thought of Mia a thousand times.

I've never felt this way before, it's a strange feeling. It's like there's a rope that draws me to her and that rope only tightened after I saw her again.

Vampires don't do divorce, they are mated for life. It is very rare to see a divorced vampire, in my 199 years of living, I've only ever met one.

Every vampire has a destined mate and they fall in love within a very short time. It's normal to see vampires get married after two months because of the connection they have between each other.

I was telling Lucien about our encounter before she came in. I couldn't really study her when we first met which I rectified the second time.

She was dressed in a crop top that stopped just above her waist and baggy trousers with drawstrings that she knotted on her waist so her waist was barely visible but at the slightest bend it would be exposed and black boots.

Immediately she entered the room, I felt in in my groin. The trousers hugged her hips and accentuated her ass. I was so tempted to grab them.

Mia, her name rings in my head. With Luce's recommendation, I'd have definitely said yes no matter who it was. I gave that condition instinctively, I was even surprised I could remember that with all that I was feeling.

I picked her outfit myself, I hope I got the right size. My P.A, Mariam, was shocked when I sent the pictures to her and asked her to have them delivered to her.

I asked Lucien to help me with her information and I know he's curious about my relationship with her but he's going to have to wait.

One thing is bothering me though, I am only supposed to feel this way about my destined mate, but she's human and I definitely shouldn't feel this way towards one.

I need answers, and I need them fast

**************************

It's today! I'm so fucking nervous.

I didn't know what to do so I called my best friend Darcy and after explaining as quickly as I could, she took permission from her job as a sales person in Glitters. one of the biggest boutiques in town, where she works as a sales person. Her dream is to own her own fashion brand.

I'd gotten a message from Damien that morning that simply said I'll pick you up by 6:30pm. _D.

Who signs a letter with just one initial?

Even that is incredibly sexy.

I hear the lock of the door turn, it's Darcy. She has a key to my house just like I have one to hers.

"What the fuck were you on about on the phone girl?" she says immediately she steps in.

"Well, hello to you too," I say and she just waves me off. I love my best friend.

Darcy is a remarkable lady who radiates self-assurance. Her fierce spirit and unique perspective on life inspire me every day.

She is a talented aspiring fashion designer, and her personal style is a reflection of her creative vision.

Her hair is a stunning masterpiece of vibrant colors, which complements her striking features.

She never worries about the opinions of others and always encourages me to be myself, no matter what.

Darcy is a force to be reckoned with, and her boldness is contagious. She's a true inspiration and a friend like no other.

"I have to attend a charity event tonight and I don't know what to do with my hair and makeup," I tell her.

She drops with a plomp beside me on the couch and says, "I'm still trying to get over the fact that all of these was happening with you and you didn't tell me." She actually looks hurt and I immediately feel sorry.

"I'm sorry Cici, I didn't even know what was happening with me. It all happened so fast".

"Tell me about it, all of it" she says with emphasis on the 'all'.

"Cici we don't have time to do that now, I have to be ready by 6" I tell her.

"Girl, you've forgotten who you're dealing with here. It's me, Cici, you're in good hands. Let me worry about that. The sooner you do this, the faster we can get started" she says to me and I know if I don't tell her, we're doing nothing so I tell her everything.

When I'm done she doesn't say anything. That's very unlike her, I'm the quiet one on this friendship. I look at her and she doesn't even blink, I wave my hand in front of her face.

"Well?..." I say prompting her to say something.

"That's the sweetest story I've ever heard."

Did I mention that she's weird? What in the world is sweet about all of this?

"I mean…what better way to start one's love life than that?" she asks.

"That's what you have to say about this crazy situation I got myself into?"

"More like you found yourself in" she corrects me.

"Same difference".

I check the time and it's 3:22pm. I stand up and head to the bathroom.

"My outfit is in my closet, go check it out. I'm going to take a quick shower".

I know she just saw my gown when I hear her scream.

Exactly baby.

"MIA, GET YOUR ASS FUCKING HERE RIGHT NOW!"

The door to the bathroom opens and she pokes her head in, "I can't wait to glamour you up" she says and goes back.

I can feel her excitement in her voice, she lives for things like this.

I finish my shower and don a bathrobe as I head out of the shower.

She's already set out everything she needs, she brought her make-up kit with her. My gown is also laid out on the bed.

Seeing the gown again gives me shivers. I can't believe I'd wear something that exquisite, I can't even believe I own something that exquisite.

"Welcome to salon a la CiCi," she quips, directing me to sit in front of the vanity.

"We're about to create magic," she sings as she switches on the hair dryer and starts on my hair.

By the time she's done with me, there's no other word for what she did but magic because...it's magical.

DAMIEN'S POVLucien doesn't laugh when I tell him. That's how I know it's serious."Say that again," he says, setting down the glass he'd been nursing since I walked into his study uninvited twenty minutes ago."The mark hasn't faded. It's been over a month.""That's not possible.""That's what I said. In a boutique. In front of Mia. Which, incidentally, is the second time in one conversation I told her something wasn't possible without explaining why, so if she wasn't suspicious of me before, she certainly is now."Lucien drags a hand down his face. In all our years of friendship, I've seen him amused, irritated, occasionally furious. I've rarely seen him this quiet."D. Marks fade on humans. Every single time. That's the whole design of it — it's meant to last exactly long enough for the bond to be recognized by both sides, then it disappears, because humans can't carry a permanent mark without it doing something to them. It's not built to stay.""I'm aware of the mechanics, Luce. I

  • The Billionaire's Bite   Chapter Fourteen

Dating my boss in secret is, it turns out, a significant amount of work. We've settled into a rhythm without ever really discussing it — I stay professional at the office, address him as Damien only when absolutely no one's listening, and pretend I don't know exactly what his hand on the small of my back means when he walks me to the elevator "as a courtesy to a valued employee." He's a terrible liar in the way that people who are used to always getting what they want are terrible liars — not because he says the wrong thing, but because he doesn't bother trying very hard.Priya, mercifully, has not caught on. Mariam, I'm almost certain, has. She hasn't said a word, but there's a look she gives me sometimes over her coffee that says she's known since roughly week one and is simply waiting for me to admit it first.Three weeks into whatever this is, Damien picks me up from a "work dinner" — a real one, this time, with actual clients — and we swing by a boutique downtown because he wants

  • The Billionaire's Bite   Chapter Thirteen

MIA’S POVI wake up in a bed that isn’t mine, wrapped in sheets that smell like cedar and something else I can’t name, and it takes me a full ten seconds to remember why my head is pounding like this and why I’m this naked.Oh.Oh no.Damien’s side of the bed is empty, but I can hear water running somewhere down the hall, and I use the minute alone to have a full, silent meltdown into his pillow. We had sex. I had sex with my boss. On his birthday. After I baked him a cake like some kind of unhinged Pinterest housewife. My shoulder aches, a dull, warm throb just below my collarbone, and when I twist to look at it in the mirror across the room, there’s a mark there—not quite a bruise, not quite a hickey, dark and strange at the edges. Great. Add “walking around with a hickey the size of a fist” to today’s list of problems. The bathroom door opens and Damien steps out, hair damp, sweatpants low on his hips, and every ounce of my composure leaves the building.“Morning,” he says. His voi

  • The Billionaire's Bite   Chapter Twelve

MIA’S POVThree weeks in and I’ve learned the rhythm of this place. Coffee before nine or don’t speak to me. Priya gossips like it’s an Olympic sport. And Damien Black finds a reason to call me into his office at least once a day, always with some file he could have just as easily emailed me.I’ve stopped pretending I don’t like it.“You’re doing it again,” Darcy says over the phone, and I can hear the smirk in her voice without even seeing her face.“Doing what?”“That sighing thing. The one you do when you’re thinking about your hot, broody, probably-secretly-a-good-guy boss.”“I do not sigh.”“Mia. You’ve sighed twice in the last ninety seconds.”I flop back onto my bed, phone pressed to my ear, and stare at the ceiling like it has answers. “It’s complicated, Dee.”“It’s not complicated. You like him, he clearly likes you, nobody’s married, nobody’s dying. Kiss the man.”“He’s my boss.”“He’s the CEO. Different rules apply to CEOs. It’s basically a movie trope at this point.”I don

MIA’S P.O.VMy first day at D.B. and I’ve already sweated through my blouse.I got here forty minutes early because I couldn’t stand the thought of being late twice to anything involving Damien Black, but now I’m just sitting in the lobby like an idiot, clutching my Chanel bag like it’s a life raft.“Miss Sanderson?” A woman with a sleek bob and a headset calls my name. “I’m Mariam, Mr. Black’s PA. I’ll be showing you around today.”Mariam. The one who was shocked he picked out my outfit himself. I file that away. She walks fast, the kind of fast that says she’s got twelve other things to do today, and I have to half jog to keep up as she rattles off department names and floor numbers I know I won’t remember.“You’ll be shadowing in Operations for the first two weeks, then you’ll rotate through Sales,” she says, pressing the elevator button. “Mr. Black wanted you to get a feel for the whole company before you settle into a track.”“Mr. Black decided that?” I ask, surprised. CEOs don’t

For some reason, I'm nervous about seeing my face. I open my eyes slowly and what I see utters me speechless. This isn't me.This can't be me.I turn disbelieving eyes to her. "Uhn uhn, you got that right sugar. That, is what I meant by real reaction.""Darcy, what did you do?" I gasp as I stare at my reflection in the mirror.Darcy beams with pride as she steps back to admire her handiwork. "I just enhanced your natural beauty, Mia. You look stunning!"I can't believe what I was seeing. My eyes appear brighter, my skin is glowing, and my features seem more defined. I look like a completely different person, yet still unmistakably myself."I can't believe this is me," I say, still in awe.Darcy chuckles. "Believe it, girlfriend. You've got the looks and the attitude to pull off anything."I smile, feeling a newfound confidence wash over me. I never thought of myself as a model, but seeing myself in a different light makes me realize that maybe I have been selling myself short."Thanks

"Come on, Mia. I've been asking you to do this for me for ages, can't you indulge me just once?"That's true though, she's been asking me to model for her for years now.
